When the Stadium of Light was opened it was one of only a handful of English clubs up to the standard of holding UEFA finals. We built the Brit. Enough said. Didn't we once hold a non-league play-off final between Shrewsbury and Aldershot???

During games they advertise the place for corporate meetings with the enticing extras such as:
- iced water - pens - notepads - flipcharts - projectors
Ffs is it a museum or a conference center.

It's classic stoke this, wait until after everyone else does it. Only do it when it becomes weirder not to have done.

About bloody time I've been banging on about this for years. I hardly ever use cash now and neither do most people under 40 who aren't on benefits. I've lost track of how many times I've forgotten to bring cash with me and had to go without a half time pint or pie, or not brought enough with me for how much I want to buy. Thousands of other fans must be in the same position every week, the club must be losing tons of money on it.

You and many others, I very rarely carry cash on me as well, luckily I can often scrounge a bottle of shit cider in The Boothen if I'm low on funds.

"What we really need, to keep our spirits up, is a PowerPoint presentation". With some very cold water. Matron...!

It'll be a school style old overhead projector with hand written acetate sheets.

The idea that contactless payments are a complicated and expensive capex project is ludicrous. It costs almost nothing and infact increases revenue and cuts costs and risk. Who ever released that press release claiming that is a complete moron.
The main issue they have us that mobile terminals would struggle as the signal is killed by so many mobiles being in proximity so they'd need wired base terminals but as they have an ethernet till network already that's already solved.
It'd take less than a couple of days to sort out the entire stadium.

But really, bringing in contactless payments is nothing to be proud of. Eight years after they were introduced. You can pay beggars and market sellers contactlessly. But Stoke City make it out like its massive. To me it just reflects the backward mentality of the club. This should have been implemented years ago.

Some fans moaned, they introduce it now some are moaning because they announced it. How did they make out it was 'massive'? Was a statement saying was coming in. If they don't announce it then they get moaned at for lack of communication.

If I was the club I would be embarrassed that it had took so long to introduce something that has been prevalent for years. An announcement on their website that they're doing something that even the smallest clubs, bars, newsagents etc already do and have done for quite a while smacks of being small time. I have a bee in my bonnet about this I admit, but it reflects on the general small timeness of the club.

But Stoke City make it out like its massive. To me it just reflects the backward mentality of the club. This should have been implemented years ago. I think what makes it even worse is that we were a Premier League club for most of those years. We weren't an impoverished club trying to cut costs. It's been clear from as far back as about 2013 that contactless payments were on an exponential rise and were soon to become the dominant form of payment for small transactions so we should have been proactive and looked to get them in years ago. I'd imagine there's a bit of hardware involved. The tills we've got now look dated and are probably the same ones from when the ground was build, we'll need new ones along with the card terminals. And as others have said a fixed, wired in internet connection because the mobile networks don't work well on match days due to high demand would also be needed and I'd imagine whatever connection the old tills have is probably slow and outdated. But the costs of those are small change for a Premier League club, or recently relegated former Premier League club. It should have been done years ago and inconveniences a lot of people.

Couldn't give a crap about the rest of it, but how about and an improvement to the mobile network. I don't know whether Stoke have any control over it. What's really annoying is they don't give the scores at half time, mostly, and their is no mobile access either.

The costs for the tech would be offset by reduced cash handling charges from the bank. There really is no excuse.

sometimes delays are due to the timescale of service provider network building/ upgrading rather than a customers desire to install. I also wonder if the demographic of Stoke on Trent was more cash based , certainly 5 years ago and especially in the Boothen and family stands ..
Having visited the Bermondsey mile ( small cask bars ) recently whilst down for the Millwall game where most are card only , as are some grounds ..card only is certainly not the panacea some see it , especially when there’s a very broad demographic you get at football grounds
I believe there was some legal challenge In the Bundislega where clubs made fans use club issued cards to pay for refreshments
Having said all that provided both cash and card are to be accepted in the medium term then on the face of it , it’s currently a win , win situation ..

I don't think anyone is advocating card only, just that a multi million pound business joins 99% of other businesses and offers it's customers modern payment options. Anyway they've done it now so I'll shut up. I might start banging on about the dreadful WiFi and awful website instead.

Excellent news, just need to figure out how to serve a drink much quicker than they currently do. Just the one person pouring one pint at a time upon demand is simply not good enough, especially during half-time.

What happens if your battery runs down just as you arrive at the turnstile? You do exactly the same with digital boarding passes for planes and digital tickets for trains, don’t smash fuck out the battery knowing you will need it for this purpose rather than watching youporn 😂

Always wonder why they don't just have drinks lined up and poured centrally rather than pouring individually.
