Something that has just popped to mind. It won't half be a bit strange for Moyes if he rocks up here.
He signed and managed Kevin Campbell at Everton and could possibly manage his son here.
How often has that happened in football I wonder?

Allerdyce has to be the most appealing short term, definitely has the best CV for the Championship. Moyes is another gamble at this precarious position in the league. We need somebody who can make an immediate difference and I have my doubts with Moyes.

Whoever the Iceland manager was when Eidur Gudjohnsen made his debut and his dad still played, there's one.....

Fabio Capello (England) and Avram Grant / Jose Mourinho (both at Chelsea) managed Shaun Wright-Phillips and John Terry Other than that I’m struggling

Might think we've dropped as low as we will go and the only way is up from here which will look good on him. Football people & managers of higher standing will have known the stoke job was a poisoned chalice and were on the way down, a job to steer clear of. You can see the attraction if there is one from the Coates', really moyes is a premier league manager, no doubt he'd take us up in future fair enough. I honestly think any half decent manager with a more ambitious mindset will take this squad (even with no new additions in January) into the playoffs THIS year - and then its a lottery what happens. I just don't see what the attraction is for anybody like Moyes and Allardyce. I can see the attraction that they are as good a bets as anyone to keep us there if we go up. Both are more than capable of getting us out of here too imo ( not that I'm particularly bothered if we go up this season, id happily perservere with GR). As I've said many times, I'd rather go up in better shape after another summer and January window

Moyes has had three abject failures plus one OK spell at a club who decided not to take him on a longer contract. I wouldn't be inspired by him or his style of football which is kind of greyishly dull. The club needs a kick-start, something to inspire, not tolerate. Everyone needs to forget the dreary past his sell by date arrogant dodgy bastard Allardyce as well then. It's a brave new world, do we have anyone up top able to drag us into it? H

Who ever the new gaffer will be I'd hope we would give him at least a chance. And that goes for Tony Mowbray too.

I’d rather have Jokanovic than Moyes. However, anyone would be better than Rowett at the moment. I suppose he would stabilise us. But, would he be up for it? Would he get us back up?

I’m hardly doing a samba dance at the thought of Big Sam, but I could at least see some horrible turgid logic to it." I don't really want either of them. I hated Pulisball, and don't want us to appoint anyone who hurts my eyes that much ever again. My point is that Moyes is clocking up a lot of failures whereas Allardyce at least tends to achieve his aims before being hounded out.

We were an 'Arnie' short of swapping places with them last year, though he deserves credit for invigorating him. I don't massively dislike Moyes, I just don't see what the attraction is beyond what he did 5 clubs ago.

Im an everton fan and had a season for ten years during moyes reign and i love the bloke to bits. I also despise big sam.
However i would go for big sam over moyes as stoke manager as he would get you promoted. Moyes worked wonders for us but he is to cautious in the big games. We only got to one cup final under him and we lost. We never beat one of the top 4 away from home in the 10 years he managed us. Big sam has been promoted twice, moyes lost the play offs with preston. He's a bottler

He's a bottler I know Everton fans who weren't impressed with Moyes's record against the top clubs (particularly Liverpool!), but to highlight Preston's defeat in the play-offs is a bit unfair. He guided Preston to the play-off final just twelve months after winning promotion from League One. In the final they were beaten by a better and more experienced Bolton team (managed by Big Sam ironically).

Sam simoly has the better record and the benefit of not knowing scholes so completely fresh , but I suspect familiarity will win over best choice and you can’t go back to sam if you have approached Moyes so they have to do that deal or move down a rung if today’s speculation is correct . personally I’m still Big S is an infinitely better choice , harder to get , more expensive , and utterly uncompromising just what we need but for that reason via the process we won’t have the appetite turkeys don’t vote for Xmas

Allardyce tends to achieve his aims and more often than not delivers results when it matters. For all Moyes' long career he's never really won anything and has a record of generally failing in the most important matches. I'd trust Allardyce to get us promoted within 18 months more than Moyes. Cost could be the key factor here though as well as desparation. Allardyce will probably cost significantly more and he can probably hold out for a struggling Premier League club at some point. Moyes will be cheaper and is unlikely to get offered another Premier League job.

I'd have Moyes over the other two you mentioned though. Surely Pardew is finished now.

I mean I’m not keen on Rowett at all, haven’t been from the day he was appointed. But the way this message board is going it’s like he’s already been sacked and we are debating the pros and cons of Allardyce and Moyes.
Until anything happens I don’t want to keep speculating, I mean is the season over anyway for promotion and regardless of manager can we win consecutive games on the trot, I’m not sure.
I just think we are a club that opitimises “turmoil” I think more lows are required to reset this garbage from top to bottom. It just feels like sticky plasters you’ve bought from the pound shop.
I’m so disappointed with the club on so many levels and most fans say the same things, we can’t all be wrong can we!?
