How some people think about the same player in different 2 situations: - He is black cunt playing for an opponent Man City - He is our hero playing for our national team in World Cup The wired thing is that mostly they are mature enough 50-60 years old. Weird, isn't it? The stuff I have heard over the years, I couldn't repeat. Some was said to me until they realised my missus was black. The reversing when they found out was quite funny, to say the least.

I haven't been following the story although I did see the video last night - although without any audio. I wasn't sure if there was no audio on the video, or it was a problem on my computer.
Has it actually been verified what he said?

Raheem Sterling told Gary Neville about abuse concerns in 2016 www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46515431There were reports of concerns for Sterling from within the England camp at the time, and Neville says "there was a tonal difference to the attacks he was getting" during the tournament. "As a coach - being honest - I didn't know how to deal with it," he said. "I went into protection mode, coach mode - 'Raheem you're a great player and we love you to bits'. "I tried to patch him up, but you were never dealing with the underlying issue and maybe you couldn't. Maybe I brushed it aside a little bit. "He was willing to stand up and play but he's been carrying this for years. I've known about this for years and was it happening before that even? To perform the way he has done is a miracle almost." And Neville argued coverage of Sterling has more than "undertones" of racism - "it's blatant," he said.

It’s easy to say that when you’re not subject to it. The treatment of him in the press and from morons like that Chelsea fan needs stamping out, not explaining away. Look I totally agree , as a teenager growing up in the seventies I witnessed first hand the abuse to black players while following stoke , our very own Garth crooks got abused home and away , monkey noises , bananas thrown on the pitch etc , it’s no where near as bad now but we wil never ever get rid of it in football We have to try.

This is a fantastic bit of television from tonight's MNF on the subject.
A great watch if you've got 10 minutes.

No white player has been slated by the press. Though only have been positive towards them. reference: Adams, Merson, Gascoigne, Marsh, Hudson and Best to nae a few who have never been berated for their lifestyle. All of the above had never had verbal abuse aimed at them, That wild, roguish lifestyle that involves buying his mum a house or eating breakfast the day after not winning an award? Yeah, that’s the same.

Not all footballers are ‘shot at’ for buying their mum a house or eating in Gregg’s though are they? That’s the point.

Your solution seems to be ‘shit happens, let it carry on, it doesn’t really matter, he’s well paid anyway’.

Racism in any walks of life is not good. but if that had been say John Stones in that situation instead of Sterling do you think the Chelsea fans would be patting him on the back, no they would have abused him as well so its not really a racist thing its abuse from fans to an opposing player goes on all the time I am afraid but gets highlighted more when a black player is abused. John Terry at Stoke springs to mind.

I have been abused many times in my life (dunno why - I'm very easy to get on with ) I've been accused many times of being a c**t or a bastard - but I have never been called a white c**t or a white bastard! Unlike my partner for 7 years who was Anglo Indian - she got accused of being Paki this and Paki that if ever she upset one of the Neanderthal tendency on a night out. EDIT: I realise that last comment is probably very unfair to the original Neanderthals.

Dave fucking Kitson is at it again I've seen on Talksport. Just how has he now become a figure in the media? Anyway, his comments has caused Tyrone Mings to cancel an interview on their station out of protest. This looks like it's going to snowball rather quickly into one hell of a shit storm.

To be fair, it's impossible to tell whether the bloke is saying 'Manc cunt' or 'black cunt'. Not really on to give him a trial by twitter under the circumstances. Sterling heard what was said and his actions since indicate what was said was indeed racist. It really wouldn’t surprise me at all if the guy giving the abuse to Sterling based on his skin colour idolised the likes of Drogba and thinks Kante is one of the midfielders in the world right now, but his stupid tribalistic mindset makes him think it’s ok to abuse Sterling because he’s the ‘opposition’.

I think that opens up a really interesting discussion to the parameters of racism and other forms of verbal abuse. This is just me thinking out loud but I do find the topic pretty interesting. Is yelling "black cunt!" to someone racist? Of course it is, and is rightfully condoned. But we've all been to football matches in the heat of the moment and have experienced the tribalism, us vs you mentality that engulfed in the culture. I'm not saying he has or he hasn't, but has this bloke picked the most obvious physical attribute of Sterling to use as an off-the-cuff insult?

He should be capable of choosing his words. Even in 'the heat of the moment', I'd wager the vast, vast majority can still manage not to scream racist epithets at the nearest black footballer.
