I don't think black people use white as a derogatory term though do they ? Whites do when they call someone a black cunt I've been called 'white trash' many times. Is that racist ?

A good article about Sterling and racism here: www.thetimes.co.uk/article/why-we-must-never-let-the-raheem-sterling-racism-storm-blow-over-6strbvjvd (you get two free articles a week for registering). It's nice to see such a positive article about Sterling after all the crap that's been written (by a certain newspaper). I wonder if some of the media are unconsciously biased against non-white players i.e. they don't think they're racist but there's an unconscious bias. I don't think that's something to be ashamed of at all - sadly it's a world many of us have grown up in - but it's important to acknowledge it might be an issue, which some journalists don't seem to want to do. There are tests to find out if you have an unconscious bias, such as these, where the Skin-tone test would be relevant: implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/selectatest.html - I'm not sure of their validity e.g. according to my test, I favour people with darker skin tones (edit: I'm white), but I wonder if I was trying to respond quicker when darker skinned faces appeared because I don't want to be seen as having that unconscious bias. Maybe my results would've been equal otherwise, and I like to think I have no bias.

Jesus I’m not sure what they have said that was so vile and disgusting if I’m honest. But like I said at 150k a week I’d be the one laughing as I walked off the pitch. I’d hazard a guess I’ve been called worse many years ago on a Sunday morning pitch but I’d put the ball in the net or the winger in the stands and give them something talk about

I'm not sure many of us would be so generous. But the law needs to prosecute the offence of racial abuse whether it is committed on a poor person or a rich person. Sterling earns more in a year than I earned in a working life-time and he also pays more in tax than I would pay if I had worked for a hundred years. He is entitled to think that the tax he pays entitles him to see his attacker (if identified) prosecuted for what the law defines as a crime. I don't think we'll ever see defence lawyers in racism trials successfully persuading the jury to let their client off because the victim earned a fortune.

Robin Williams was a multi millionaire but still had feelings outside of his bank balance. Sterling is a multi millionaire and is very much entitled to be upset / angry about getting abused, even though he’s got a big house.

If the same instance occurred in the street I doubt you would get the group of Chelsea fans screaming abuse at Sterling from a few feet away the way they did, if they did they would be arrested. Just because he's on the pitch doesn't make it acceptable.
