True... but sacking him and the next one didn't solve the problem either. What makes you think sacking a third will do the trick? You need a decent manager and a decent set of players. We could get a better manager in but the fact remains the defence has been crap under three successive managers and getting another in isn't going to solve that particular problem. No point amputating your arm to cue a headache. I'm not advocating we sack him yet , he's still on honeymoon as far as I'm concerned ,but he has to use the resources he has until January to sort out our back 4 Agreed - he's clearly identified the problem and hopefully we get lucky in the transfer market in Jan

Actually we are set for another season in the Championship if the league ends today. I had some of my best times supporting Stoke back in what was division 2, and no, I don’t relish it, but I recognise we are a completely different club nearly 20 years on, we had an amazing time of it in the top league battling with the big boys but now we are due some hard times. We are in transition, we will be for a few years. We are luckily to have a chairman who is actually a fan and decent funding to actually retain some hope. The fans who expect instant success need to get a grip, it’s a tough league and Rowett needs a long time to make his mark, sacking him achieves absolutely nothing, the next guy would have exactly the same problems. Better to get behind the team instead, we should consider ourselves lucky, shit could be far far worse than it is today.

Despite today I'm not convinced it's time for a change yet but it would surely be a dereliction of duty by the board not to realise a decision might need taking soon if it really doesn't work out with Gary. Let's just suppose, after their disastrous failure not just to replace Sparky in time but to have a credible replacement lined up, they've actually learned their lesson and there's a rolling shortlist - who's on it? I'm not the biggest McCarthy fan but you know what you're getting. Don't see Big Sam or a manager of his quality coming near while we're a visibly toxic club. Moyes would be high on my list, thought he did ok at Wet Sham. A bit soon to be contemplating this! I thought you had ‘moderate’ views!!! About Gary, yes absolutely, open-minded and moderate unless roused About the board's conduct of this football club, far from moderate and I won't cut them an inch of slack till they earn the right again.

Well I think you should have a word with Coates mom is top 6 after sinking 40m... We are so defeatist we should be aiming high...

Although Rowett hasn't overly covered himself in glory with results he isn't to blame here. He's just a minor issue. This problem goes a lot higher. Dare I say at the very top where it seems possible that clueless Pete is being made a mug of by Scholes and Cartwright. Ill keep belief in Rowett for now but if the problem is indeed from higher up then what chance does he have??. John Coates needs to step up and take over from his father, hopefully then things might change for the better. If Peter Coates, Scholes and Cartwright are responsible for the decline in results on the pitch, why don't Stoke City managers ever resign to safeguard their own reputation? Great question. Im not overly sure why. All I can put it down to is the overall temperament of the managers that have been brought in, maybe borderline stubborn? Hughes certainly was. He was going nowhere until he was paid off. I genuinely think Lambert wanted desperately to make this work as his chances in football management have been few and far between lately. When the call came in to him to take over Id imagine he'd have thought it was a windup. A manager sacked by numerous clubs gets an SOS from a then Premier League club with a reported solid and loyal ownership!....Lambert must have believed he'd won the lottery. As for Rowett, well its clear that he believes this job is the next step up for him however one thing I doubt he foresaw was the alleged behaviour of the man above him, namely Tony Scholes. A CEO who reportedly has put the brakes on numerous plans that Rowett has drawn up. Time will tell if Rowett walks, I don't think he will but I do believe that their is some bad blood already between them two and the other pizza boy and its John Coates, not Peter, that is acting as a mediator.

I'm certain the other reason Sparky stayed far too long - apart from stubbornness and delusions of being right - was £££, £££ and yet more £££. I'd guess his loss if he resigned would have been well into 7 figures, anyone inside the biz know what those numbers would probably have been? Poor Lambo. He's a genuinely good bloke imo. If he'd come in second, like Rowett, he'd have had some chance of turning it around, slowly but surely. Coming in first after the smash-up was an impossible job for almost anyone.

That's a valid explanation you give but I don't buy the view expressed on this board that Stoke City managers are having football decisions imposed on them by Scholes and Cartwright or anyone else at the club. Firstly if you read the claims made against both the CEO and Technical Director you rarely, if ever, see them backed up by hard evidence, it's all hearsay, nod and a wink, circumstantial stuff that gets written. Secondly Peter Coates has said many times that the managers at Stoke are allowed to get on with the job without interference from above and that the owners are prepared to give them the time to get things right. Why would the Chairman allow non footballing people at the club to tell the manager who he should buy or who he should play? Remember though I'm talking about football decisions, not transfer fees, wages, contracts etc, regarding those issues the CEO would obviously be heavily involved.
