The problem is its probably too far down the line now to solve in a season. We have too many players who are stealing a living now as they've been deemed surplus to requirements or not good enough. Allen wasn't worth a new contract, Cameron surplus, ECM surplus, Imbula surplus, Badou wants out, Fletcher past it, McClean not good enough and on a 4 year deal, Berahino hasnt scored in 45 games, Diouf looks a shadow of the player qe first signed as does Pieters. We have all these players on the books and nobody wants them. I also shudder to think what their combined weekly wages would be I never thought we could solve things this season but didn't think we would just carry on down the same road to oblivion , signing the likes of McClean and Williams are another two journeymen who cost too much and are not good enough . Plenty of good young athletic players against us every week. We seriously need to start looking at the lower leagues for players hungry and willing to prove themselves

As i and many have said the deadwood will kill us mate. It certainly will. Its a very very worrying situation that could lead to us in a very similar position to what QPR are in Yeah when this was mentioned a few weeks ago, the poster (Benji? ) was accused of knicker wetting but its hard not to see it as a possibility as it currently stands.

Its most definitely a possibility. Clubs arent exactly knocking the door down for these players and no doubt the majority are on over 40k a week with no reduction in wage due to relegation. Scary times

The Three Wise Monkeys
Useless pricks more like ...
Its really hard to know where to start with the Questions. "We've been told in the past that Stoke have good knowledgable football people, Gary. But you've also just said that people in the club thought that the Championship would be easier for PL players and now they don't. When people in the club have such a complete lack of comprehension about the challenge at hand, along with the arrogance inherent in that belief, do you understand why fans have lost any confidence in the people in the club?" "There were a strong clutch of wide forward playing in the Championship last year who scored or made 15-20 goals for their teams - many were young players, up to 25 or so, with room to grow and develop: Watkins, Bowen, Barrow, Robinson, Jozefzoon, Barkhuisen, Wilson, Barnes, Lawrence, Jed Wallace, Luke Freeman. Or then there were the likes of Snodgrass, Grosicki who were older but also scored or made over 15 goals. When you are playing with a front 3, what made you choose a player that has only scored or created a mere handful of this number of goals over several seasons, while paying much higher wages for him and him having little or no resale value?" "The club have said lessons have been learned. Can you tell us what the main 2-3 lessons were that needed to be learned and what you've done differently as a result?" "When you said the culture needed to change, how would you describe that culture and what is the root cause of it and what are the remedies?" Problem is, we can answer them ourselves.!

Scary times The ridiculous thing is, we've just given Bauer a new, five year improved contact and after two games into the season the manager has brought in a new replacement for him. I thought we were supposed to be learning from our mistakes, not adding to them.

I'd also have to question why give a player who was only signed 7 months ago a new contract so soon after we've been relegated

Its a similar situation to Roger Johnson, Jamie O'Hara et al at Wolves many years back. Except we've got about 5 of em! www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2013/05/06/you-can-stick-your-shirt-roger-johnson-say-wolves-fans/And here was the solution offererd by then manager Kenny Jackett.... "suffice to say that changes do need to be made as it needs to be a young and vibrant Wolves side coming out well now and coming out fighting." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/23031243

It went wrong somewhere between the day Pulis left and the time Hughes/the transfer team filled the squad with players with no balls. First couple of seasons Hughes had strong players like Bego, Ryan, n’zonzi, Whelan, Walters etc. TP had a philosophy of football that a lot of fans didn’t like. It’s the most enjoyable spell of supporting the team for me personally. And his Boro side have started magnificently but that’s another debate. Anyway, from there Hughes and the transfer team brought in some top quality to go with the solid pros we had. We added the likes of Bojan, Arnie, Shaq, who though inconsistent had some glorious performances and we had a mini golden era where it seemed we had cracked it. Then Hughes let go the likes of Whelan, Walters, Huth (who went on to win a title which shows what he had left to offer) and through no fault of his own we had to sell Bego and n’zonzi - losing all fighting spirit in the team. Then players like Arnie were sold for relatively big money and replaced with choupo fucking moting on a free. And prior to that N’zonzi was replaced by Imbula who hasn’t even learnt to speak English. Whilst I agree that the issue of due diligence on players had come home to roost, it is too simplistic to say that there is only one type, the Pulis type that are any good, facts are there are lots of talented AND hard working players. The benefit of recruiting the talented and hard working is you don’t have put up with the utter toss footbal Pulis gave us, best time supporting Stoke?? Not for me I cane within a whisker of turning my back on football for good.

Scary times Well there's a simple answer if its really got that bad, you just pay all the bad apples off and end their contracts. It'll cost a few quid but it's not like bet 365 can't afford it.
