People seem to have taken issue with my use of the term tin pot. Not sure why. Yes I would prefer to watch us play Arsenal Utd and Liverpool rather than Brentford or Ipswich. They are tinpot provincial clubs and let's be honest no one outside of stoke will even look up the result. The whole point of my post was that it's not me how horrible this league is and how poor the football is. Unless we go straight up this is what we are stuck with. I liked being able to wind up Arsenal fans at work and people actually take an interest in stoke, fantasy football and everything that goes with it. Now we are just one of a big group of clubs slugging it out in the champ. Brentford aren't a 'provincial' club. Neither are 'tinpot' clubs any more than we are. Ipswich in particular have won more than we ever will. There are exciting, incident packed games at any level of football. I agree we are a tin pot club. I don't want to play other tin pot clubs, I want to be on the biggest stage playing the best teams. if I want competitive tin pot football I can go watch school football I really don't see your point

This isn't a tin pot league. But the standard of football I agree is tin pot. There are no excuses for Rowett this season.

Of course you want to achieve as much as you can but dismissing football outside of the Prem as tinpot is ignorant, prawn sandwich-level bullshit.

I agree with the original post. It’s a fucking wank league and one I can’t wait get out of. For me I want see us pitting our wits against Utd city Chelsea Liverpool etc etc, not bloody Brentford et lal. Yes it’s a snobby attitude but for 23 years I suffered lower league football and the shit standards it sets. Please let’s make this stay short stoke and get up at the first time of asking....
P.S yes I’ll be at Leeds with my snobbish attitude hoping we stamp our favourites tag all over Elland Road. I hope we play with a swagger that says we are going storm this league

Football is about release from everyday pressures, it's not about the football, rather the crack with your mates. I'd guess you'd have more of these days in the Championship than the Premiershit. Football is, mainly, pretty boring to watch! You'll be lucky to see 5 -10 cracking matches over the year! So you support Stoke, whatever division they're in, or you're a football fan! On the odd occasion, if you're lucky, you can be both!

Last season was one of the worst in living memory, every minute of it felt like a fat dentist with a knee on your chest drawing your teeth. The Championship feels like a sweet breeze compared to the stench of that.

Aye, here we are having the opportunity to go to more matches, compete for a league title and have some decent days out in the process; Leeds, Forrest, Villa, Sheff etc. I'd rather that for a season than pitting my wits (losing 4-1) to City, Spurs and the like as we have for the last 2 years. I can't wait for this season.

OP's got a point though hasn't he. The championship hosts a substantially more wank quality of football as evidenced last night. It IS a less desirable league to be in, and all the people saying " fuck off and watch united then", the flip side of that is, if you love the lower leagues so much - fuck off and watch Salford. My point here, to save you the trouble - Is don't start telling supporters to go and follow another team because you don't agree with them, it's fucking poor. We spent god knows how many years trying to get to the prem and when we're relegated by wank management and terminal transfers + timing of sacking Hughes, most of you lot are sperming your pants at the prospect of playing Rotherham and why?? what the fuck for? My favourite away days were always Preston Bolton Blackpool, Blackburn etc. So I grant there's some fun in the diversity of playing clubs we haven't played in a while - But would I rather watch any of those matches as opposed to a premier league match? Fucking no chance. they're fun in the cup but you want to be at top level, otherwise what's the fucking point? The fact we're in this league shows a failure of the club on loads of levels and it's perfectly valid to state it on an opinion based board. All that's been wheeled out on this post in opposition to the OP is 'prawn sandwiches' and while I don't necessarily agree with the tin pot element; calling them arrogant. It fundamentally misses the frustration that's been barely contained by the hope and promise of a swift return to the prem. (Which apparently some of you don't want.) Loads of you have the mentality of: oh well it's done now, better just get on with it and not complain - as is your right. But others are still seriously fucked off at those responsible for putting us in this mess and have equal claim to that opinion without the usual suspects throwing silly little names about. As for the 'How dare you call X area a shithole, that's what Arsenal fans do!' Stoke IS a fucking hollowed out ex industrial vapid shithole, as are loads of places, the point is it's also where we come from (in the most part) and that's largely why we're stoke fans, because it's where we come from or you have sort of special connection to the club/area. It doesn't make you a stuck up arsenal fan to realise Middlesborough and Rotherham are the fucking pits, It makes you a realist and let's not forget that you have to also take the step down in quality of football. As for all the other fans wanting to get one over on us - Obviously, they will due to recent status - how can that even be disputed?? So everyone's frustrated in one way or another but reel it in a bit with the rubbish arguments and petty insults. There’s a big difference between still being pissed off about relegation and some of the absolute nonsense bedwetting that some people are spouting though. I doubt there is anyone who was not genuinely gutted about last season. But it is done. The new season is upon us and some of the negative, futile hand wringing isn’t really going to achieve anything. The people behind the scenes coming in for criticism, some of it valid, some of it completely unsubstantiated speculation, are the same people who oversaw our rise to the top flight in the first place with the odd exception. So, while I agree there has been complacency and terrible decision making I also think the club has enough in the bank credit wise not to be hauled over the coals after a couple of bad years. Largely the result of failed big money transfers. Big money transfers that those who are most critical seem to think we needed MORE of! If you can’t get excited about a new season just because your team has been relegated on merit then maybe footballs not for you, because that’s just the way it works. All this “boo hoo, the championship is so shit, it’s not on a stream for ME to watch. I’LL have to go to Rotherham instead, fucking woe is ME, ME, ME.” We got relegated, it happens. The challenge ahead of us is this season, some people refuse to stop fighting last season. Football moves on quickly.

You're in for a shock this season. The biggest problem you’ll have is some players think they’re too good for the championship and the good, hard workers will be looking at them and wondering how they get paid double the money for doing less work

I think today showed we are in a tough competitive league. It's not shit and it's not full of 'tin pot' clubs. The sooner the club and supporters realise that maybe we can start to go forward. Today was an absolute shit show and hopefully has brought a sense of reality to the squad and a wake up call to some of our more arrogant fans that think clubs like Leeds and Brentford are 'tin pot'

I’m not telling people to “go and watch the vale” or “go and watch United”. Football is a story, a never ending ever evolving story. If you don’t like the book because it’s wank. Put the book down. The championship is a decent division full of decent teams and decent players. It is probably the most competitive division in the world from top to bottom in terms of the even spread of quality. It’s good enough that all 3 teams last year stayed up and a good few from the years before that as well. No, it’s not the premier league, we don’t deserve to be there, you could argue we haven’t for a good 36 months. That’s football, you go up. You go down. Just fucking sick of this crying in the pint “it’s a shit division” nonsense. If people want to moan about the fact we are shit, or players are shit, or the managers are shit, fine. No beef with that. The division we’re in is the division we’re in, because it’s the division we deserve to be in, playing against teams we deserve to be playing against. The persistent and condescending belittling of the division we deserve to be in, and all the other teams in it deserve to be in, smacks very much of the same smug bollocks that comes from the sort of top six glory hunters who would happily go for some sort of European league.

I wasn’t really picking up YOUR personal take on the championship in my post to be honest, as while I disagree, it was balanced and thought out. Merely suggesting that while I agree that telling people to fuck off up the vale etc isn’t on, some of the shit spouted on here like “the championship is shit, i’m not going to be able to watch it” tends to suggest some among the board are not entirely up to speed with the principals of the league pyramid and what it actually means to support a football club or a sports team in general. It’s not supposed to be easy. What would be the point. Last season was shit, and if this season is shit too, and the next, then it will only serve to make the next good season better. In part I think I am genuinely disappointed at the lack of gallows humour that used to make stokes support what it was. I sensed it disappearing about 5 years ago, sensed that we took ourselves way to seriously, and some of the crap I read on here tends to hammer home that reality.

I'd definitely agree with that, it's gone - definitely for me anyway the last 5 years have crushed it out of me I've certainly seen a drop on this board in the past 15 years too, At least Coggy pining for Dave every night was entertainment but a different kind of entertainment than 7 years before it! The other thing, from a championship berating perspective, is who the fuck was enjoying the last 3-4 years? There are people saying the premier league is the place to be, the promised land of football supporting. Well, where the fuck where they the last 4 years? Surely if it was that good there’d have been thousands bang up for it singing their hearts out? I was there shouting myself hourse trying to get some atmosphere going, very few others seemed to give a flying fuck. Just wanted to sit on their hands moaning. And now those same people who expected to be entertained in the premier league are offended that we’re not there anymore.

It's like a never ending circle this.

I'd prefer us to be in the Prem, to be the best we can.
At the same time, I'm excited for this season and the challenges we face.
I like the fact that teams like Bournemouth, Brighton and Huddersfield are in the Prem. I've no issue with them having investment. Otherwise we'd have the same teams rotating constantly. Ita good to have change and good to know it can be done, otherwise nobody would ever go for it and just rely on it being your year.
I'd far prefer though that we lose to Everton first game of season than Leeds. Far prefer our first home game being Arsenal than Brentford. But that's just because I'd prefer we were still up there with the best.

I hope we play with a swagger that says we are going storm this league Oh dear....

Well if that is what it’s like playing “TinPot” teams in a @@@@ Lge, I think we might have a few problems.
