Numerous internationals and Champions League winners. Are we too good to go down at the expense of the likes of Brighton, Huddersfield, Swansea, Burnley and Watford?

Not at all bad start is on the cards, with the start we have and without the work horses and old guard is the team capable of coming from a bad position thats the question.

No, question is are we good enough to stay up, shaky defense and no goals coming up front could spell disaster.

I'm not so sure.

No definitely not, we flirted with it last season and take Arnie, Bruno, Walters, Whelan and Bardo out of that team and we can definitely pull it off, quite comfortably I would suggest. The brutal first 8 fixtures don't help either, say we get only 3 or 4 points out of those and at the same time 2 or 3 regulation 4 goal spankings right out of last seasons collection and we would not only be bottom but without that precious commodity 'momentum'. This season could unravel very quickly. (Just read that back, it's kind of like Benji with some marginally improved spelling and grammar )

As we stand we are significantly weaker than last year. Unless we buy and buy well we will flirt with relegation.

I think with the players we have we SHOULD be too good to go down, but with Hughes managing those players, given what he's shown over the last 18 months, I think there's every chance we will be in the mix. As someone said on a different thread, we are likely to find ourselves in a mini-league of 5 or 6 scrapping it out at the bottom. For the life of me, I don't see how Coates can't see that.

We will be when all this 'monitoring' has stopped, the 'apples have dropped', negotiations have been 'wrapped up' and 'everything has fallen into place'! Waiting with baited breath!

Have you been watching us? We're not very good at all. A couple of points off 8th last season. The question was about relegation and we spent large chunks of last season within 5 or 6 points of the drop line. The teams were very bunched, it wouldn't take more than a light gust of wind to take us over the edge.

Are we fuck too good to go down, we've been shite for over a year and a half. As it stands I'd be asking "are we good enough to stay up", that's far more of a head scratcher unless Hughes and the transfer team pull their fingers out of their arse-holes and actually do some fucking work.
I know there's still essentially a month left of the window but FFS, as if the opening quarter of the season isn't going to be hard enough whilst still waiting for new arrivals to bed in etc.
I'd never in a million years tempt fate by saying we're too good to go down, even at the top of our game, I certainly wouldn't say it here and now.

Have you been watching us? We're not very good at all. A couple of points off 8th last season. And only 10 points above safety. The massive gulf between top 6 and everyone else, maybe bar Everton, is just massive. And sadly we appear to be going backwards at an alarming rate, and our activity this window so far has been very discouraging to say the least. I hate the state of affairs when we stay up because others are so poor, I'd much rather stay up cuz we are so good.

The teams were very bunched, it wouldn't take more than a light gust of wind to take us over the edge. Is this what we call a "Knicker wetter's rewriting of history" ? Once we got over our bad start last year we pulled 5 points clear of 18th in Gameweek 10, that dropped to 3 points in weeks 11 & 12 then back to 5 points in week 13 and then upto 8 points in week 14. We then stayed between 7 and 12 points clear of the line for the rest of the season. As shit as we were, we were only ever theoretically at risk of getting sucked into a relegation battle if several teams turned from relegation candidates into title winning form.

Last time I genuinely heard the comment 'they are too good to go down' was Brian Cloughs Nottingham Forest in 92-93 season. No such thing as too good to go down, you finish where you deserve

The thread should read are we good enough to stay up. Answer no. We flirted with the bottom 3 last season & have been in decline for 18 months or more we are weak at the back we lack a beast in the midfield & we can,t score goals. We have sold the most creative player we had & lost a player in Walters who you could rely on to upset defences. So unless there are some key signings before deadline day its going to be a very hard slog.

Of course not! Ask any Villa or Newcastle fan.If you dont invest continually each season, you will eventually go through the trapdoor to another indefinite period of obscurity!

Any teams other than the top 7 are capable of going down...
And our regression the last 20 months doesnt bode well.

Football is littered with clubs who were too good to go down, but went down anyway.
What worries me at the moment is, the past couple of seasons we have had very poor starts, but had the quality to get us out of trouble, we are expected to have a poor start yet again, so unless we bring in some quality we could be in a relegation battle.

Realistically, any three of the bottom 13 could drop. (I'd have excluded Southampton but they haven't been strengthening this summer either, have they?)
