Nobody is too good to go down.
But all things considered, we are good enough to escape relegation.... so let's do it.

I think if this squad is caught in a slump it might be a test for it to recover . Positives are Jack, Fletcher and Zouma plus what looks like a determined Shaq.
Worries are losing Arnie the full backs Ryan's fitness and will Berahino deliver? And a team frighteningly short on pace
My main fear is that Hughes won't get any better and that might cost us .pre season has seen little change so far and if he has the team playing the same way as last season that things may quickly turn toxic
In terms of relegation I think you can forget the top 7 and probably Leicester Bournemouth and West Ham .
Southampton may be ok if they hang on to their players and West Brom and Castle will do enough.
I'd say we are in with the rest and could be anywhere in the lower half.

We are in serious trouble of stagnating, then the next stage will be the unthinkable.
Hughes needs to freshen it up, which I believe he is doing with some of the departures from the squad but there is not enough incoming.

I fear a squeaky bum time season from beginning to end which won't do my blood pressure any good whatsoever. Offer me 17th now and i would grab it.

We might just get away with Hughes under performing into a third season but combine that with a toxic atmosphere in your home stadium and that could really fuck us completely but how do you prevent it? Are the fans supposed to just suck it up? Coates is a stubborn old bugger when it comes to jettisoning an under performing manager. The fans normally have to find a way to put pressure on him to act.

No team is too good to go down, the counter point cliche is "the league table doesn't lie" and it doesn't the 3 worst teams will finish in the bottom 3. As things stand right now we have 2 wing backs who are neither good wingers (can't beat a man can't cross) nor full backs (can't tackle can't get positioning right) a new centre half partnership (one of whom has been terrible for 18 months) no attacking midfield and a striker who couldn't score if his life depended on it. Add to that a manager who's favorite number appears to be 4 and believes that defensive training is something they do elsewhere and subs can only be brought on after at least 80 minutes and the answer is no we are not too good to go down!

Too good?! The manager and the board seem to sleepwalking into relegation! Yes the notion that this squad is 'too good' for anything is laughable, as things stand we are right there, with the worst of them.

Squad as it stands would be half way down the championship at best , so there's your answer , more importantly we are no where near good enough to survive as things stand .

The gap last season between 8th and 18th was smaller than the gap between 7th and 8th. Any of the teams below 7th could have gone down if there were a few injuries, a few dodgy referees, a few poor games. The margins were very fine.
It's interesting that the top of the table is more predictable, but the bottom of the table is less predictable.

Imbecile ? , walters , Arnie , Whelan , bardsley , Bruno , that's five players were all in the squad last season ,and all gone I know you might not watch much but catch up , this is no more last seasons squad than it is the 1970 cup winning team

We have a really tough start, if we have the usual Hughes start, will the supporters and the board keep their nerve. Personally I think the board will and the supporters won't.
Time will tell, we will desperately need a little luck in the first 10 games, if we end up with 7 points we will have done well.

Don't score enough. Concede too many. Of course we're not too good to go down. I see no evidence that the manager has found a solution to any of the problems that have dogged us over the last 18 months.

As it stands we look very poor, can't create or score and can't defend, we don't appear to have any plan A

I mean can you imagine, say we go for a regulation 4-0 defeat at Goodison Park on the opening day, a 4 nil'er right out of last seasons sorry collection of such defeats, and then to compound the misery Arnie score the winner for West Ham and Walters notches for Burnley ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/7TTgAtwUz19SBi0cvrCX.gif) If Carlsberg did nightmare starts! It would be World War 3 on here, and the season would be only 90 minutes old

There's a faint whiff of Sunderland, Villa etc. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about but it's undeniably there.

As a Hammer I get this question better than most – No A squad of good players a team does not make and our relegated lot of 2002/3 on 42 points must be ON PAPER up there for this badge. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002%E2%80%9303_West_Ham_United_F.C._seasonVirtually the same squad finished 7th under Roeder the previous season but he was taken ill halfway through a season we'd ambled into playing poorly. Although a brief revival under Sir Trev's temporary stewardship saw us get to 42 points it wasn't enough. 46pts to get 8th last season puts it into perspective. The 2010/11 relegated team on the other hand definitely got what they deserved. The real crime of our 2003 relegation was the breaking up of a quality squad, full of much local/academy talent - it also being our then 10th successive season in the PL. You'd think that the threat of relegation reduces with time in this division but in truth, (unless you're one of the elite) there's probably 12 clubs next season where a poor run, or player/management decision/injuries etc..can easily put you in the mix.

I would like to know what Peter Coates really thinks. I really would. Pretty obvious he isn't overtly concerned. If he was he would either sack the manager or splash the cash. As he has done neither therefore Coates must think we will be ok.
