Following a poor season, by our standards, there were many many fans hoping we would bring in some really good signings to bridge the gaps where we failed last season. Before Arnie went, it seems we should have signed good players at critical areas for the end of close season training. Arnie has now gone and it appears Hughes has said we are not going to spend 'big' money. It seems the management are cheapskating on the emergence on young players and Hughes is embracing this. I hope I am wrong(of course), I went to Sheffield last night and apart from Shaq, it was poor, but I am worried, tin hat on for a fury of abuse.

- Window is still open for another 34 days
- Other clubs might not want to sell their players yet until other things happen e.g. replacements, moves elsewhere
- Money spent doesn't always equate quality
- Moves may be happening in the background with the progress not visible by the general public

Im happy with 17th, but losing Arnie will leave us in a relagation battle, we cant score for toffee, where are the goals going to come from now?. Why are we cheapskating?, I just dont understand the thinking.

Your probably spot on but there are two flaws 1 That suggests the plan was to invest zero incrementally in one of the worst performing squads in the last 6 months of the premier league 2 assumes the transfer team can actually put such deals in place when scholes clearly indicated it's a surprise , they struggle with 6 months notice . All points to a last minute trolley dash for free , loans and bargains off the back of another disastrous start . |

Given the following (I'm sure you'll correct me should I be wrong  ):
- Our habit of diabolical starts to the season
- Significant advanced notice of a particularly tough start for the coming season
- Significant advanced notice that Arnie was going to submit a transfer request
- A willingness to part with good squad (though aging) players before you have acquired able replacements
- Advanced knowledge that you may have already played up to 3 games before you finalise any transfers in which in turn prolongs any "bedding in" period
- It is important for players, fans, staff etc. to start the season with optimism
- That right now our squad is arguably weaker than it was at the end of last season
- Knicker wetting is arguably preferable to "head in the sand"
.....then I'd say we appear to have a problem.

And one of the players doesn't really count, he's nowhere near ready. I don't understand the ease at which fans and clubs (seemingly) dismiss time in pre-season. It's a great chance to build the formula you want. To build partnerships. To practise set pieces etc. And drill it in them. |
