It's a well guarded secret amongst the iner circle at Stoke, and it appears to have gone unnoticed by some of the fans but I will spill the beans in his defence ! Ryan isn't the brightest button to have ever walked on a football pitch , infact he's a little bit dence , I still love him to bits though ! Lol, are you related?

Yes spiritually "because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee."

That article is well over the top. Football is an emotional game. Yes he is highly paid but he just scored a goal after seeing the palpable frustration in the crowd and the whole team was about to get booed off at half-time. Good on Shawcross. It actually shows he GIVES A FUCK about Stoke and what the fans think. Hes hardly stuck his fingers up at the crowd. Just giving us the ear is a bit of a GEE UP to the library that BET365 has become. We are so precious at times. More like Arsenal fans every day Absolutely spot on. Not read the other pages yet but some people need to get a grip. Yes, the captain cupped his ear, maybe not the right thing to do but if he hadn't of scored how many people would have booed the team off. Ryan Shawcross has been an absolute colossus since joining. He is not free from criticism, nor is any player. At least at the end of the game he claps the support, at least 60% wouldn't realise this as they have already left (no criticism intended, no dick measuring etc). We all come to see Stoke win, why don't we give 100% vocal support instead of waiting for some contentious decision to get going. It is now a library and every away teams fans take the piss. They don't even sing 'Where's your famous atmosphere'. So before we slag off our captain, ask yourself did you give 100% support? (and before anyone says we pay our hard earned money to watch, you also want your team to win). So lets stop criticising players who actually give a toss and get behind the team.

All of the knicker wetting over our defence needs to have context. We conceded 4 goals at City, Liverpool, Palace and to Spurs and City at home when we didn't have a goalkeeper to speak of. This season we have conceded heavily with a proper goalkeeper at Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea but they have been games we had a go at. Yes there were some mistakes but Chelsea was a really good game to watch. Anyone would think we were bottom of the league or that every other team is playing super-entertaining football. This si a tough league in which teams have to grind out results most weeks, I think expectations are completely unrealistic

I don't remember Denis Smith cupping his hands to his ears. He just got on with the game. Smith would have had dogs abuse from people on here if it existing when he played. Why do people continually use one Stoke legend to denigrate another?

What's more, in 20 years time someone will be saying that the great Ryan Shawcross walked on water compared to the players they have then. Pathetic.

This si a tough league in which teams have to grind out results most weeks, I think expectations are completely unrealistic So you're not in the slightest bit concerned at how many goals we have conceded so far this season or at the back end of last season? Well I am, and thousands of other Stoke fans are as well, when will people realise that it doesn't make us "knicker wetters" i for we show concern in our teams form. I loved the way Hughes was going about his business in his early tenure and I could accept the amount of goals we concede if we were playing free flowing attacking football and were banging em in at the other end but we're not and haven't for some time (if ever),so in my opinion I've been pretty disappointed with how we've been playing of late and really don't enjoy seeing my team getting battered for four no matter who it's against.

Wouldn't that create a good atmosphere Yes it would but it's a totally fanciful and unrealistic thing to expect. And by the way you dodged my question I'm taking it that your answer was yes.

Or maybe it's a valid opinion. And an expected reaction. Over the top and uncalled for. He who pays the piper calls the tune. It isn't uncalled for. Ryan had to expect a reaction for calling out the fans. That's exactly what he got. It's naive to assume anything else.

What are you talking about the support turned out on a cold midwinter night and were rewarded with an absolutely dross game of football. "We can't have it our own way all the time" we haven't put in a good home performance in over a fucking year. We won 2-0 the ground was more than half empty when I left god only knows what it was like at the final whistle, thats the next best thing to being booed off despite the result. Thats your definition of supporting the team - Just turn up, sit on your arse and expect to be entertained instead of backing the team? Get in the real world mate, theres 19 other teams competing in the premier league, it can't go our way all the time, we aren't going to win all the time and we're not going to play well every game, thats the reality. The standard of our support really has changed since those early days in the Prem, now some fans expect and want it on a plate. The weather and time of year has nowt to do with it. If its a bit cold for you then you're better off staying at home or supporting a big team instead that you can watch from the comfort of your nice warm living room where winning most games is virtually guaranteed. Anecdoctal stuff about the ground being half empty is just rubbish too. Which is exactly what the people next to me did all game, didn't applaud the team onto the pitch, didn't celebrate the goals, randomly shouted "foul" at one point when Arnie went down, and when I casually said "I bet Ramadan would have had an impact against this lot", the female half of the duo said "who ?" But I bet they are there every home game, whilst I - as a retired person with a 100 mile round trip - manage half the home games at best, but at least I recognise the players and I support the team for the whole game

Why do people continually use one Stoke legend to denigrate another? It was better in Smith's day. You could get your matchday ticket, six pints of Double Diamond, 20 Woodbines and a chippy tea and still get change from 50p.
