You pay your money and you have your attention seeking, temper tantrums. The ground was nearly empty by the end of the game and there was no buzz of excitement whatsoever. Will you only be happy when you, if you go, and the rest of our more pragmatic fans are left. The football is boring as fuck, those of us who expect something more than ugly football have had to vote with our feet to get rid of one manager who couldn't care less about the entertainment value of what he produced. I hope it doesn't become necessary again. Lets face facts you lot who are satified with anything so long as we pick a few points will swallow whatever is served up to you no matter what. Other than the top six, nobody in the premier league is particularly outstanding. And why would you assume Hughes has no interest in playing entertaining football? We have had nothing but for the last three seasons!! And that is down to Hughes. As has been said on here, this is an important window. The fickleness of premier fans is that when things go wrong, intact any football fan in any league in England, we all moan. So I suppose these sort of threads and the comments on them should be expected.

It's easy to forget as Season Ticket holders, but some people were asked to cough up close to 40 quid, less than two weeks after Christmas, for that dross last night. I'm alright jack, my money has already been paid and I got that match last night for 21 quid.
What about those that made sacrifices to afford it?
I understand that you can never guarantee a result but surely the very least you can expect is for a football team to try and play a fast paced, attacking brand of football regardless of the end result?

Was it a pretty game of football? No it wasn't, but the job got done and to me that's the important thing. I am satisfied when we win, that's what excites me, so when we have threads on here before the final whistle has been blown entitled "Absolutely Abysmal" with some of the most ridiculous posts I've ever seen on here, I do feel the need to give my opinion too. I'd rather been seen as a happy clapper and support my team, than be like the person on here who said he couldn't even be bothered to get out of his seat when Shawcross scored, because we were shit. Over to you.

Hughes lost his idea of playing fast paced attacking football and found a penchant for megalomania around 18 months ago and we're much poorer for it.

I agree. I never boo no matter how shit we are because as the originator says no matter how bad things have been at times over the last 2 seasons I have seen MUCH worse.
Our problem is the recruitment policy. We have spent money on unreliable, at time unmotivated or just plain unsuitable players. Hate to admit it because Mr Pulis's recruitment policy was highly suspect at times but if you compare the way Phillips has performed for WBA with Shaq's overall contribution for us I know who I would rather have. Does the manager ultimately decide who we buy? Is it the Director of football or is there a committee? Either way our aging lopsided squad has needed a proper refresh for seasons now but I wonder if the current issues around the failure of signings such as Imbula, Shaq and Joselu etc has undermined Mr Hughes authority? We obviously need more signings like Allen in key positions - Right back, centre back, holding midfielder, striker - and let's unleash Sobhi). However at what stage will we be able to refresh the old guard - Walters, Whelan, Crouch, Bardsley, Given, Adam etc - without it resulting in regular 4-1 drubbings???

Since then however, we've gone backwards and reverted back to the Crouch and Walters combo which we used 4 years ago. Hughes has been here 4 years now and he still hasn't been able to move on from Crouch and Walters. That is extremely concerning.

I do not think the manager will be in trouble anytime soon. Of course people have been unhappy recently, we've been on a rough run, but it is nowhere near as bad as you would like to make it out to be.

I slated the last manager for crap football and I'll slate this one for the same. Fair is fair. I'm sorry if this doesn't sit right with this message board but I am bored rigid with what I'm watching. Last night was garbage. Utter garbage.

We have a squad that gets rotated according to the managers wishes and injuries. I agree last night was not a pretty or exciting game, but we still won, and it was far from the old days of booting it up to crouch in hope.

Typical premiership supporters I can't believe some of the comments on here and on Radio Stoke tonight We just beat a team who were above us in the League, we kept a clean sheet, we scored 2 and could easily have had 4 But that's not good enough anymore. We must wallop teams like Watford by 5 or 6. And In the process we have to play like a mixture of Real Madrid and Barcelona Get Real. We're a lot better than the strugglers at the bottom we're a lot worse than the top 6. It's virtually impossible these days to do anything better so WTF do some people want !!! Occasionally we will click and tonk somebody but in this League that's going to be a rare occurrence. Let's be thankful for what we have because as someone who's been there for the last 53 years I know it can be much much worse than this Rant over Can I ask a,serious question? Other than an absolutely abysmal Watford team do you think tonight's performance would have produced 3 points against any other premier league team? Yes. Probably all the bottom four

It isn't even the Crouch effect either. He was a mainstay during Hughes' first two seasons here and he found the right balance of flair and direct football. He needs to get back to that, or at least show the signs that he can. I'm not asking for the moon. I'm not demanding we do a Leicester. I'm not asking that we finish in the top half or even win a cup. Football is football and results with ebb and flow. I just want a bit of football back, especially at home.

Can I just say, that I love Peter Crouch. He is at the moment the best striker at the club. The way he got into position for his goal was sublime. Alright, he probably should have scored another, but at least he gets into the right position. Should have been man of the match. I want him to get his 100th premier league goal with us, and I hope I'm there when he does it!

Shit football is shit football regardless who's in the dugout. Hughes spent two seasons proving it doesn't need to be that way but has lost his bottle for attacking football. Five months to sort it out or fuck off.

I understand peoples expectations being raised. The man who has done that is Hughes. He's lost his way, I get that, maybe he is feeling the pressure and went ultra cautious? As we have always been told, it's a results business. I can just imagine what would have happened if Hughes had played all his flair players and we got turned over. It's not like Shaq is pulling up trees every game. Calling other teams 'shit' and expecting to beat said 'shit teams' is exactly what most of us hated about the Prem in the first place. I'm not happy, but after the performance against Chelsea there are glimpses of a team that is certainly not regressing. I do think this window is Hughes's most important one of his Stoke career. H The team, tactics and entertainment all all regressing significantly a blind man could see that. 'The team, tactics and entertainment all all regressing significantly a blind man could see that'. No wonder Imbula's having problems learning English!

Since then however, we've gone backwards and reverted back to the Crouch and Walters combo which we used 4 years ago. Hughes has been here 4 years now and he still hasn't been able to move on from Crouch and Walters. That is extremely concerning. A year ago, everyone was falling to bits because Walters' contract was timing out, was it wrong to retain him? No one at the time thought so. And since we have got him, he can do a job and he does score goals, that's the statistic that counts. Of the other options, Bony is at the ACON, but he hasn't really worked out. Diouf is doing a better job where he is now than he did in front of goal. Bojan is okay in certain formations, but when you're feeding off crosses from Arnie and Adam, a diminutive character like Bojan is not your man. Which leaves Crouch and Walters. I take your point about still being here after nearly four years, but I would suggests that what we try to do is very different now than four years ago. The fact that we are still using some of the same personnel is not because we have the same approach to the game, they happen to be effective, if not always attractive ...and following two straight defeats, that is probably the important thing - I think it is clear that Crouch certainly is not Hughes ideal first pick, but he scores goals. We have shown we can turn it on as an attacking force and we gave really good accounts of ourselves in the last two games. Okay, yesterday was a flat performance - it happens and after a full Xmas programme, I can let the performance slide because we got the result. I really don't think the forwards are the problem (notwithstanding the 20 goal-a-season unicorn that we search for every year). They could be better, but they aren't bad either. I am more concerned about our defensive brittleness in games. I think we have some great individual defenders, but as a unit, I sometimes wonder if they've actually met each other before. A clean sheet against a dreadful Watford side is not an indication of an improving defense.

It was wrong because he was still contracted for this season under his previous deal and his performances tell you that he has very little effect when played. It was wrong because we have an epidemic of 30+ players thats like a ticking time bomb the way we're going we will hit a window very soon where we need to bring in about a dozen players. Recent history tells you our transfer team are not capable of wrapping up anything like that sort of volume of deals.

Last night wasn't the first time under Hughes that I felt during the 12/13 season. That feeling of work on a Monday morning shouldn't have any fucking connection with watching a football game.
I'm fast losing hope that Hughes actually knows how to get to the direction he wants to take us. Be it in his signings, his tactics, his substitutions. Personally I have no problem with Peter Crouch being in our lineup. He provides more than adequate contributions to defense, midfield and upfront. But last night was something else. We looked to have the same lack of direction we had that season before Pulis went under the chopping block. I've backed Hughes from the word go but I don't like what we're doing one bit at the moment.
A win's a win. But last nights abject performance against one of the worst teams I've seen for a few seasons- papered over a lot of cracks for some people. The refusal to sit down and admit we've got problems is weird. It doesn't have to turn into a shit slinging competition, but we've got problems.
