Stoke fans whinge their cock off when a manager plays a square peg in a round hole and then we get this. It's so funny. It's not the case at all. I suggest that if we consider( I wouldn't) playing Arnie on the right we would need to change our system to suit. You said earlier that things are not black and white when it comes to Football but it is when it comes to individual players. He's been a left winger all his career. He's a left winger. A migtily fine left winger. One of the best in the league no less.

We've got just two positions in the whole team where there isn't a bit of a question mark over the player currently playing it.
Butland in goal and Arnie on the left wing.
We should be attempting to increase it from 2 out of 11 not turn it into 1 out of 11.

If he can play the left he can play the right. Football doesn't work like that. Never had, never will do. And Arnie has shown time and time again that he's not the same player on the right as he is on the left. Ok let me rephrase. "He should be able to play right" any good winger can play on both sides.

I realise Joe Allen is the exception but maybe he proves the rule - Hughes is not very good with large sums of money. Compare his Man City and QPR tenures with Fulham and Blackburn. Shaq, Imbula, Joselu, Diouf look at best like it will be a long time before they pay off. By contrast Bojan, Johnson, Arnie, Wolly, Afellay, Pieters all seem like good business. But this idea that the manager finds the players isn't accurate any more. Carto and co find, Hughes approves I guess. He certainly won't be involved in the fee. But our hit-rate on signings is a bit wayward lately. You can only sign so many misguided geniuses in the hope of working the dogs' home magic on them, or youngsters with potential. At least Allen showed us buying the finished article for once.

Are you suggesting Hughes comes in on a Monday and meets a new player. Hughes said Imbulacame to his attention in a friendly and with several players he has said he had been tracking them for several years. Eddie is reputed to have a fantastic knowledge of players across Euripe. The manager and his team identify the players and here and at QPR their expensive purchases have not paid off.

If this is the case , then I'm afraid I think we need to try and cut our losses and let him go , we can't afford a player on his salery playing half the games a season because of a thigh strain that keeps flaring up after every 2 games he plays .I like shaq and always stood up for him when he came and wasn't Pllaying well at first , but we are not a big enough club to keep players like him on the treatment table 6 months of the year .

If he is out for 4-6 weeks the lads starting to become a real liability for injuries. He's becoming like Jack Wilshere

Until this is confirmed by Sparky I can't see why people are so quick to judge or fucking complain. The stuff about "4-6 weeks" is on the Swiss FA website and he definitely isn't in their squad. Don't know how much has to be shared in terms of scans and second opinions, but you wouldn't think it'd just be a case of the Swiss FA taking our word for it?

My guess is MH is trying to keep as many of his "ify" fitness players away from international duty as he can and let them have an extended recovery period. yes what a waste of time.mist assists forStoke last season!

What an effing waste of time he has been. Funny how he managed all those games for Switzerland but can't get fit for Stoke. Hardly a waste of time, topped the assists for Stoke last season, show a bit of reason in your comments.

Shaqiri's a number 10 for me, and the best we have, so at least his absence makes Bojan's selection easier. Ramadan will add balance being a proper winger but I don't mind if it's Diouf or Jon. Arnie's a bigger loss whenever he's unfit. Hughes said he was happy with the way we played Tuesday, and will be looking to cross it more so expect to see Ramadan or Jon out wide.

Before this summer, a headline like "Ramadan rules: Shaqiri unable to regain place" would have led to total meltdown on here. Still could actually, knowing the EE board

The injuries are particularly unfortunate/irritating and have not helped his form, but he's not "crap" is he... I happen to think he's pretty crap yeah. If his name was john smith and we'd signed him from Huddersfield and he proceeded to play for us the way shaqiri has there wouldn't be a single person on here defending him. I think there would be loads defending John Smith, especially if he scored the beaut at Everton last season
