I reckon MH played Shawcross because S/Hampton have scored the most headed goals this season. Unfortunately he wasn't looking after pelle for the first goal I think it was wholly. Shawcross was passed around for the second goal, so his return might be considered as a bit premature. Some gambles pay off others don't. Just hope that his recovery has not been affected, if not he will only get stronger through the rest of the season, let's not panic.

I saw him doing 15 star jumps, 124 sit ups then the praying mantis. Then get up and flexed his muscles in a jonny bravo style.
Anyone else notice this

I had absolutely no idea this mb was full of orthopaedic consultants I doff my cap to you all He should have had an op last summer wezza, I'm basing that on literally nothing other than the wisdom of hindsight.... Surely we would've been better off not signing him as we knew he had back problems from day one?

The point I am trying to make is that he hasn't been rushed back. I'm not so sure. He was so far off it he looked passed at times. Mental to play him from the off with Muni on the bench whose at the very least played the last few. Then again I fear Ryan's injury is way more severe than is being let on - just a hunch and hopefully incorrect. One thing is certain, we need a top quality centre half in the summer for sure. Sent from my SM-G928F using proboards Exactly, it wouldn't make any sense to rush him back, when we could have played the same team that played at Chelsea, and when we have won 3 out of our last four games. And I don't believe they have. When is the right time to bring him back then? If your hunch is right why would the club play him with a serious back problem?

a bit of a bugbear of mine but why are forward players allowed to ease their way back in 10, 20 30 mins but virtually without exception if a defender has been out for any length of time they are expected to play the full 90 mins when they come back

From what MH has said I think we need to wait on this he didn't seem overly concerned and I cant see the club taking risks without being sure. Ryan has been out for 8 weeks and from the reports given they certainly didn't seem to be wanting to rush him back.
I'd imagine he'd always have been a bit stiff after his first full competitive 90 mins back so we don't want to read too much into it.

Dunno how many of you heard it on the radio (i was in the car listening to City v Norwich) and when the team news came on, they said that Stoke were playing Shawcross, "and I can tell you that, despite what Stoke fans say, England have been watching him". Take from that what you will.

I'd imagine he'd always have been a bit stiff after his first full competitive 90 mins back so we don't want to read too much into it. Just before Pieters was subbed he signalled to the bench. Just after he dropped down on one knee holding his back and during the last few minutes he flatly refused to challenge Pelle in the air twice. Didn't even attempt to jump.

I did my back in about 12 years ago and to this day I still have problems. It hasn't stopped me working but I am not a professional footballer. However, even now after washing the car or doing some gardening I can feel it. It has been said before but a back problem is not like a broken bone that will grow again, sometimes stronger, but despite medical treatment is usually a permanent injury, more so for a sportsman. I hate to say it but I do fear the worst.

Same with my knees actually. Sometimes I do wonder if it's psychological though because I seem to feel pain in them before I do sport.

Even if it was true, posting it by SL+P would be damaging. What do the boys who post this shit get out of it?

I think posting stuff like this is totally thoughtless. Its always going stir up idiots posting, like now,for him to "man up" or whatever. People who just dont understand or want to understand psychological conditions. We dont know for sure if its true either. Leaking stuff like this is an absolute field day for critics and a nightmare for whoever is dealing with this. Hes our captain. He needs our support whatever the condition.

Its not true. After the first injury, he was told the worst thing that could happen is he couldn't walk again. When he returned Ryan did get another back injury, and this is what was on his mind from the first time. Since then he's just been recovering and with the back its not something you can rush or take chances. These boys are absolute idiots, and to post something like that about our own player is a joke. They need a look at themselves.

Stinks of bullshit to me. Same was said about Daniel Sturridge who felt the need to come out in public to tell people he was genuinely injured all because of some shit stirring rumours.

Ryan needs to rest from playing matches from now across the summer - with the appropriate / very best fitness and physio therapy regime - its that simple

Very very damaging to the player if true, shouldn't have to deal with the pressure of leaked info whilst already battling the issue, if true of course.
It simply baffles me that they haven't got 1 drop of common sense between them surely they realise the negative impact they can have releasing this info regardless of it being true or not.
Idiots.
