Not the greatest moment in TP's history. Stoke fans knew, the whole world knew that he bottled it big time. Spot on, Merson.

I remember coming to book everything, the planning, the thought, the excitement of me and my mates going to watch Stoke at European and Spanish giants Valencia in a competitive game where we had a realistic chance of getting even further, then in the days building up to the match rumours about the squad that would travel circulated, but we were all to excited to be ruffled about it.
Then after a fucking brilliant night in Barcelona the night before, we woke up, hungover but running on adrenaline, buzzing our tits off. We drove to Valencia in great spirits Only on arrival at the main square did we realise that dickbrain Pulis had sent the B team because Premier League safety was more important.
What a load of bollocks. It ruined the trip. Yeah we had a fantastic day out and it was great to see so many Stokies there. But the bottom line was, hundreds if not thousands of stokies saved up for that trip especially and put every effort to go over there and support the lads in red n white with the hope of overturning the first leg.
Only to be greeted by TP sending a massively under strength team.
Never forgive him for that, and he went down in my estimation massively that day. (and has done even more so since.. But that's another story)
So I'll finally say a big fat fuck you Pulis. Hughes will get us into Europe and when he does I'll be 100% confident he'll throw the kitchen sink at it for the fans!

He said that we got as far as we did and then Stoke (he didn't say "Pulis") 'put out the B-team', even though we could have gone even further in the competition, after asking the fans to support them over there.
He also said that this was a year in a million for Stoke, West Ham or Leicester to steal a top four spot.

The change in atmosphere was tangible once the rumours of what the team was going to be started to circulate. I swore blind the news was wrong. I don't think anyone will ever grasp what a twattish decision it was. Especially after having been so duplicitious begging us all to go out there. Twelfth man etc. Still makes me angry thinking about it. One of the top 10 most important matches in the club's history and he's so classless and small-time that he doesn't go for it. Forget all the pro-/anti-Pulis agendas. I think he lost a lot of respect from everyone that evening. Am a JCL to the board so apologies for the rant but I've never had a chance to vent before Still, glad I got to go to the Mestalla. Awesome ground and 'Stoke is a shithole, I want to stay here' was priceless.

I guess you'll do anything when protecting an (allegedly ) one million not getting relegated bonus

I was in the Hotel Reception when I got the team news, if I could have got my hands on Poolis I'd have strangled the bastard - my spirits dropped to the floor, I honestly believe we could have done Valencia at the Mestalla. The best thing about the trip was the Stoke fans - they were ACE, sang all through the game and for the 40 mins we were locked in after the whistle. Poolis, you'll never get support like that again, you didn't deserve it then and you certainly don't now.

I truly believe that Valencia match was the catalyst for Pulis eventually getting the boot.
It was spineless and downright inexcusable to the thousands of Stokies that had worked their arses off to pay for the trip.

I'm still a bit surprised none of the three teams mentioned, or others like Everton haven't rolled the dice and got 2 big name players in this month so far. Top 4 had never been so likely for so many teams before and a couple of players could make the difference.

"I want an army of Stoke fans in Spain"
He got his fucking army of over 3000 and then pissed on every single one of us who went.
I couldn't fully get behind him after that, I honestly thought he'd give it a go after his rhetoric about wanting us all there.

The irony was he played a decent team and we played quite well! Arismendi showed he could be a decent 'footballer' and we were dying for Delap to play right back for ages and he had a great game in that position.

Weren't the official numbers put at 7,200?

We took over 7,000, you are correct. Not sure of the exact amount. The team we put out did us proud but I was so pissed at TP for the side he put out. I really think had we put our strongest side out we'd have gone through.

Still gutted I never made a European trip but hopefully, we're not too far from doing it again.
Asking for an army & doing that to them showed the level of contempt that man had for the fans.
He probably had no idea we would turnout in those numbers which shows just how little he knew about us.

Don't disagree with the sentiment and fully agree about old Tone bottling it big time, but lets not rewrite history - the first 11 had been poor in preceeding games and there's nothing to suggest we'd have seen a different result with them playing.
It'll still last long in my memory. In the cathedral square beforehand, the hangover the next day, taking the metro down to the beach, making friends with loads of locals.
It was bloody marvellous.
