Do you not think that was because they closed down the midfield to prevent the CH's from playing it out? Our centre halves are the least of our worries...ball playing or not. No There front 4 put our back 4 under pressure. That left 2 midfielders to our 3 (Whelan, Affelay and Cameron). Our centre halfs can't pick a pass though so it ended up getting lumped forward. Everyone knows Klopps teams press. We just turn up and hope they won't. Ok. Lets just agree to disagree. I agree that they put us under pressure from the front tonight. Just disagree with your assessment of our CH's ball playing skills and the fact that you blame them for being unable to find the spare midfielder when pressed. Apart from Wollys lack of pace I am ok with our centre halves.

First post but I can't believe the negativity of some. 9 years ago we were in the second division playing some of the shitest football I've seen and now we're in the semi final of the cup going into the second leg with a fighting chance against Liverpool and people saying we are ' well and truly fucked' get some perspective! We're better than we've ever been!

It was dog shite especially in the final third.nothing came off. As for being a drama queen,we'll see but I feel our chance has gone. Do you fancy our chances away at Liverpool? ? You really should jog the fuck on with that attitude. Not sure wether you agree with me or not?

I'll put it more politely than dog shite. We were absolutely abject. From the first whistle we were off the pace and never recovered. We looked tired and leggy and anyone who thinks Hughes's selection at the week end didnt affect the result is living in cloud cuckoo land. Klopps teams play with pace and energy and we never got near to matching it. What Diouf has done God only knows, the match was crying out for his sheer energy and enthusiasm.

Think we have lulled them into a false sense of security, over to Anfield to spring the trap. 1 goal from us and we are level including away goals. Not given up hope yet. Well, our manager needs to throw everything at it now. I have always been of the underdog mentality, but you know what? more often than not, I win. But that's me, not our team. Mark needs to attack Liverpool in the next game. I'm not bothered to admit, I want to win, we all do. I love Stoke City, born and bred. I have been hugely impressed with Mark Hughes, but the first ten minutes of the game was very negative, which helped Liverpool.

Playing the way we now do - knocking the ball about until an opportunity opens up - is ok. I can accept that, BUT when an opposing team has done it's homework and is closing down our players to the extent that we become ineffective then you have to change things.
Bringing SJW on at half time I think was a good move because a) he added that extra bite and run till you drop approach as an example to others. b)his ability to win headers from long balls gave us another option and he won most of his duels with Toure from the moment he came on the pitch.
When Joselu was brought on it added more aerial firepower and then even more when Crouch came on. However we were still generally playing out from the back with 15 minutes to go.
With THREE players up front who can win headers either Hughes or Shawcross on the pitch should have told other players to get the ball into the box at every opportunity. And the longer the game went on it was more important to do this.
This isn't rocket science. It's what the vast majority of managers would tell their players to do when 1-0 down with 15 minutes to go with THREE good headers of the ball up front.

The only thing dog shite tonight is your support. Good effort at a fight back in the second half I thought we were unlucky in the end and just off the pace a little. Couple good signings and that second leg is ours, 1 goal deficit is nothing Who do you suggest we sign???? Who do we drop??? Do you really think we'll sign players in time for the second leg and chuck them straight in. Don't talk bollocks.... Well???????

I suppose you could argue the extra midfielder wasn't making himself available but I think we do struggle moving forward from the back when teams press our centre backs

When Lovren went off and Lucas put into centre back surely to god we bring a striker on to test him and Toure who's about 88??
Come on Mark and Players back to basics.

Hate to say it, but we were shit.
Maybe it's not rotating the squad, maybe it's press speculation unsettling key players. Maybe it's simply that we didn't play very well (and Liverpool's game plan worked perfectly).
You just have to be thankful that we're not out of it. Always a chance.
As for slagging each other off and measuring dicks, I'll pass thanks. We all pay our hard earned, we're all passionate and we all get annoyed/frustrated. That's footy.

Liverpool worked their bollox off to get that result yet we were pretty poor and can improve 50% for the replay. I'm more than optimistic we can win the second leg, calm down.

If that's the best Liverpool have and they time wasted against a piss poor Stoke tonight , then we have every chance.
We can play so much better than that, yet they seemed more than content to hang on for 1-0 funny it reminded me of how we used to play under Pulis.

It was a pretty poor defeat. No-one came out of it with much credit and there were some terrible individual performances. Geoff was just Geoff, Pieters looked shaky, Whelan had one of his rare shitters, Shaqiri not involved enough, and Bojan was shocking - didn't do a single thing right all night.
On a positive note, we're 1-0 down at H/T and we're better than we have shown tonight.
Dump the 'False 9' as the Plan 'A' and use it as and when.
Use the Doncaster game to rest/rotate, and go up to Anfield 4-2-3-1 and have a right go.
We are capable, there is no question.

If so you are on another planet, express your 'that's footy' shite all you want but you still need to appreciate that we are in the best league in the world having beat city, United and Chelsea in the last two months. We got outplayed, outfought most of the game against a reserve team. They could have won by more.Players going off injured and we didnt take advantage.A nea full team for the return spells big trouble for us Sturridge wont miss them chances.

We shouldn't take away the effort that Liverpool put into it against the odds, however, they lost two players to injury but still kept going. I was dismayed at the number of stray passes we made and so.e of the idiotic back passes. Even Jack had a wobble with that clearance that hit their player. Nothing to lose in the ne t leg and it is Liverpools to lose, so we must go for it. Two poor games on the trot for us, when this format works it is brilliant but it needs all the players on song together. We need a format that allows us to win ugly when we are not at our best. Still, onward and upwards, I have supported them for almost 60 years and not going to stop now.
