We started slowly and kept it going all game =)
Can I just say this "If anyone is watching the Stoke game or listening to it " they are a Stoke fan and entitled to their opinion. I am sick of this "If you were a true fan" bollox.
Different people express themselves in different ways, if you don't like what someone has said then use reasons to oppose their view not just abuse.
Rant over.
Anyway we were poor tonight, maybe at their place they will be poor and we will go to Wembley.

Probably up there with one of the worst performances of the season.
Lots of players were way of their best and frankly they were leggy, tired.
If you had told me before the game that Liverpool would have been reduced to playing Toure and Lucas as the centre backs, and we would still fail to test them, I would not have believed it.
We had a great Christmas but we looked knackered today, and frankly we fucked up in not resting players against West Brom Hughes fucked up big style not resting players for West Brom game knowing this one was so close, poor management on this occasion he has the opportunity to put it right though let's see what pans out.

If this is honestly the best we can do, we needn't turn up at Anfield. This team is not progressing any further in this competition and I'm not going to waste my valuable time watching or listening to the game after tonight's disgraceful showing. Let's forget it, put the reserves out at Anfield and focus on the league, as they say. Ooh a tantrum. In defeat, you see people's true colours and character. Pointing out that our team tonight were utter shite is not a tantrum. Not sure why being a fan of a club means you have to blindly support them no matter what. After tonight's capitulation I'm not wasting my fucking time watching us get hammered at Anfield - for make no mistake, that is exactly what is going to happen. I have better things to do with my time and as a fan it's the only real form of protest I have available. If it was possible within the rules, we should accept we've blown it and concede the tie. As it stands we should minimise the risk of injury to our top players and send the reserves out. Who knows, they might actually be up for it and go out and get a result! The first team clearly can't so what have we got to lose. Forget the cup now, focus on the league (and the other cup).

Your name suits you. This defeat and the way we played had nothing to do with ball playing centre halves. In fact both of them were pretty good on the ball tonight with their passing thanks, I thought I was the only one thinking that. Yeah those long balls to Bojan were pretty incredible

Should have been Glen Johnson, only one who played anything like he usually does. Reminded me of the FA Cup final, an utter damp squib. Amazing how opinions differ, I thought Johnson was poor tonight Looked most like providing a goal tonight, was a bit iffy defensively at times, but all our threat was coming from him really for large parts of the game.

There's a very weird rule where they don't count until after extra time has been played. so if we won 2-1 in 90 minutes it would go to ET but then if it remained 2-1 to us after 120 minutes we would go through. At least that's how I understand it. Very strange!

I don't know about blaming Center Halves for not passing the ball, the Affelay-Whelan combo looked awful tonight, very slow and passed the ball sideways and backwards over most of the game. If someone can tell me any meaningful ball that they played, I'd be happy to acknowledge my mistake.Stuck in Karlsruhe, utterly deflated by such a lacklustre performance.

Accusing us of "throwing " the game is a new low even for some of the bellends on here. Let the parade of clowns commence.... Oh there are some special cases tonight. The laughable thing is that if we pull this around, and it's not beyond us,they will be the first to cry into their beer if they can't get a ticket for Wembley.

thanks, I thought I was the only one thinking that. Yeah those long balls to Bojan were pretty incredible id love to see the stats because with Wollscheid especially he was passing short and pretty much every time to a Stoke midfielder when I was watching. There were long balls now and again but for me Liverpool were pressurising our midfielders and that was where we were losing possession. If I'm wrong Ill hold my hands up.

Very poor tonight.
On a positive note we cant play any worse in the second leg and we're only one behind. Tonight we played like we were very tired and nothing seemed to work. Hopefully the first 11 will have nearly 2 weeks break now so should come back fresh for there next game.
Observations from me
+ Johnson and Shaq looked a threat on the break.
+ We cant play any worse than we did tonight and hopefully they'll have a few out for the second leg with all those hamstrings going tonight.
+ Afellay continues to look good.
- Never will we have a better chance to target a poor CB partnership but we offered next to nothing.
- We are way too slow in the build up. For me a lot of that is down to the 2 DM's who just aren't technically good enough. I think we can get away with it against weaker teams but due to the pressing tonight they just needed too much time and we kept losing possession.
- Why can Ryan never keep the ball down when he's in the opposition box. Time after time he just heads the ball over the bar (He's still great though).
- I think we need to treat each game differently and if the opposition suits not being afraid of going back to 4231.
- Set pieces were poor again.

I need to go onto one or two other fan forums because the impression I get from reading this thread is that we must have the most fickle and unfair fans in the whole country. The comments I have read are embarrassing to say the least. If a performance is utterly shit then people will say so. You can lose, but not be shit. Tonight though, we were shit. Shit like we haven't been for a very long time. Perhaps I don't have to look at other forums! This is clearly an embarrassing comment from someone who begins to imagine he is a Stoke fan and he believes he can wield the "shit" word like confetti . I saw a game where we were initially out played by a team who were organised very well tactically. I felt very disappointed. Liverpool's excellent play made five or six of our players ineffectual. I saw a response from Hughes who altered his tactics and used bold substitutions. Hughes played many players forward and the defence backed them up very well. Very sad we lost but we are not out of the cup by any means. Can we go to Liverpool and win? Well I believe we can because I believe in my team. I am a fan! It is simple really. You do not have to come to games if you think Stoke and its players are so bad!
