Agreed, although I would want at least half again on top of the £10 million. Having said that, after the Diouf signing, I don't know whether I would trust Hughes with that money for a striker. You would think he of all people could pick one, but..... Diouf is doing fine. Hmmmm, I think hes been hit and miss tbh, should have scored more than he has really, I don't think he's the long term answer for our main striker as it stands.

Can anyone unearth THAT team photo from the Europa league adventure where Glenn is standing in line, tats oot, looking every inch like he's stepped out out of a detention centre? To be fair Ryan doesn't look a lot different. Love that team photo.

Re: Roque Santa Cruz
Just had a look and hes at Malaga and they have confirmed a "firm offer" for him in the last couple of days.
Didnt realise he's 33 though.

Great shame if he moves on. He's been a great servant for the club. He was my player of the season last season, not because I thought he was the best, but because IMO he most exemplified what MH was trying to achieve and our most improved player in the second half of the season. My only criticisms are he can have an off-game and I think we have seen the best of him, whereas Cameron and Sidwell could I believe offer more in the role.
I guess at 30 this is his "last hurrah" in terms of a lucrative contract and he has to stick out for the best he can get. Good luck to him; a footballer's career is short. I hope he settles a deal with the club for a couple more seasons, but would understand if MH doesn't see it that way or Glen feels he can get a better deal elsewhere.
As has been mentioned by me on the Crouch thread, Stoke do have to address the issue of the number of mature players. We can't keep them all and young blood has to be brought through or bought to secure the long term future. A lot of the squad have to be "phased out" over the next 2 - 3 seasons. It makes financial sense to sell players while they still have a value; the hard task for MH is which ones. I don't envy that part of his job.

The goal at Manchester City apart, and even that was terrible defending and a scuffed shot, I really haven't seen much of the striker we need to progress.

" "On Whelan he added that there was an offer on the table from the start of the season, but there had been no response as yet." So is Hughes suggesting that we offered Glenn a new contact at the start of the season but since then his agent hasn't even bothered to negotiate that offer? Really?

Agent doing his work? Offer on table not long enough? Do nowt, spread rumours pre Jan window - force SCFC's hand or bugger off to someone else?

That's the only explanation for that response. Is that because the original offer was so appalling they didn't think it was even worth attempting to negotiate it or is it because he simply doesn't want to play for Stoke anymore? As I said, Hughes' comment doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

SLP mentioned that we'd offered him a 1 year extension, which if true is a bit of a piss take.

The point I was making mate - is that I think everybody should take what managers and chairmen say at this time of year with a pinch of salt - it's all smoke and mirrors. I've just seen Hughes' press conference and he said negotiations with Crouch had already taken place but didn't Coates say the other day, that he hadn't even discussed Crouch with Hughes yet in response to the reports that there was a rift over Crouch? It's all bollox.

Expect the player smearing to commence soon. It's Coates's M.O when his arms become shorter than his pockets.

So Peter could be telling the truth and he has himself not spoken to Hughes, but that does not mean the club and Hughes have not spoke about crouch or any other dealings

That's one mother of a great tactic.

He's still got plenty in the tank injuries permitted that is. Would be a great loss and expensive to replace him. Can't see us getting another £500k bargain like him. Bojan might be that £500k bargain

Bojan might be that £500k bargain Ha ha, I know they don't really perform the same role, but to think they cost us similar fees.... When we signed Whelan he actually came (to my mind anyway) as a bit more of an attacking midfielder than he has been for us. He's never been prolific but he did get 7 goals in the Championship the season before he signed for us. He's got 5 league goals in total for us!

Not really arsed either way in regards to Whelan. Yes, he's proven to be a bargain and I like his professionalism and character, but deep down I've always thought we can do better.

Some worrying 2016 contract end dates from FMs list.
They either need sign extensions or be released this summer. Can't afford them to leave for a pittance.
