I think a hard-and-fast policy like that is barmy from any club.
There are so many factors at play in each individual decision and Whelan hasn't even turned 31 yet.
People are even saying they're fine with Crouch getting 2 yrs, to take him up to 36 and a half, due to him not having any pace to lose and his body type - which is a legitimate argument.
There's no proof that we are running with that policy - but if we are, it seems bonkers.

Definitely keep him. Nothing to suggest a reduction in ability yet. Definitely worth 2 years at same wage, probably with an option on 3Rd if he plays (say) 25 games in season 2

Lookslike he's signed a new deal... About time. Well done Whelan. Well deserved. His form under Hughes has been superb.

Good news. Let's do a countdown now to see how long before the club can be bothered to anounce it.

Not unhappy that GW is staying, he has certainly improved as a player in a team with a more positive mind set.
I guess that does that to players...

Good news - he makes us tick, a true unsung hero who has given many years of solid service and thoroughly deserves the new contract. It would cost at least 10 times as much as the £500,000 we paid for him all those years ago to even come close to replacing him adequately.

Great news. We would have to dig deep to buy anyone better.
He was my player of the season last season. I'm not saying he was better than Ryan or Bego, but IMO he exemplified more than any other player what MH was trying to achieve with the change in tactics and more attractive play. His own improvement in form under MH was delightful to see and his partnership with N'Zonzi (plus Wingie's goals) was the change that lead to Stoke achieving 9th in the Prem.
