I would exrend by a year at most, much as I like him, there are plenty of younger alternatives, including home grown.

I'd bring up Shenton personally, and I think that is Hughes intention as he lets some midfielders go and other shifted around. Glenn is a great pro but talks of a 3 years deal... mental that no thanks. I'd give him 1 year with a review and the added chance to renew each year after. Same goes for Odemwingie, Crouch, Sidwell and anyone already the wrong side of thirty. Like all those players but time is not on their side.

Said in that encylopidia of football The Sun today that Stoke are letting Whelan's contract run out this summer and could even let him go on the cheap in january. I find that surprising He's a good squad man, but him and Nzonzi play far too many square passes for my liking.

I'll actually be quite sad if Whelan leaves, one of the best 500k's we've ever spent.

Be a bigger loss than you might think. It's an immense compliment to Whelan that Swans are after him however(if indeed they are). I saw some of their match against Spurs and although they lost they played some fantastic football at times. All they lacked was the killer punch. (much like us). If they continue to progress we'll do well to keep up. Whelan is 30 but i believe he has 3/4 good years ahead of him. Shouldn't be sold to Prem rivals imo. However, Hughes needs cash and may see Glen as part of the old system. Hard to call.

Glenn is only 30, Sidwell is 32! With our current injury situation we do need to have players like Whelan in the squad - do the club want to extend his contract? Is N'Zonzii settled now?

Thank you god, i'll start the car Absolutely. Let's chuck Shawcross and Begovic in the back and see if we can tuck Bojan in the boot.

I wouldn't be afraid of/or mind giving Glen at least a 2 year extension of his contract. He is a solid pro and you know what you get from him as well.

It all depends doesn't it. I've never been his biggest fan (ahem) but to let him go without a replacement is mental. We are short of bodies as it is.
I've a real bad feeling about the impending window I really have.

There is only 4 players I'd be gutted about if they left, in this order Shawcross, Bojan, N Zonzi and Cameron. In my opinion we can cope ok now if we let Whelan go, he's done very well lately BUT people forget the shit he used to get on here, constant abuse. He does deserve a contract though.

Undeserved abuse, he was one of the reasons we did so well last season, and until the injury he was doing well this, so far no one has matched his appearances in his role (although given it a good go), as soon as he is fit, he'll be back to becoming an important player again, we really shouldn't be letting him go. Edit: would you rather Bego go than Cameron? (not a question about ability)

If we don't have a transfer fund of note but Hughes would get the money from any sales then if we could get £10 million + for Bego I'd sell him. That money could get us a decent centre forward and Butland is more than capable of stepping into Bego's boots

Having said that, after the Diouf signing, I don't know whether I would trust Hughes with that money for a striker. You would think he of all people could pick one, but.....

If we could cash in then spend the money on a goalscorer.

I'm a little shocked anyone would think that tbh, yes he has had a poor season so far but he is still a great keeper, you don't just lose that over night, I think he's just a little low on confidence, once he gets it back, he'll be back to his best.
