I didn't watch the game last night, choosing instead to record it and watch it with my boy this morning. Cahill and Jagielka were fucking marvellous weren't they? Jagielka turned his back on the first and Cahill looked so assured, strong and domineering at that back post again...NOT. England played OK I thought, certainly for an hour so, but defensively we were all over the place. Woy and his defensive picks, including Baines, will bite England on the arse for as long as they are involved in the competition. That is some strength of character to go bed knowing the game is on. Was it cause you got p!$$ed early watching Uruguay/Costa!?! No mate. It was too late for my boy to stay up so we watched it together this morning.

We looked good going forward, poor at the back, Rooney was totally ineffective and we struggled to keep the ball

I was pissed. I remember thinking we played quite well, Rooney isn't a winger and this could be a half decent side at the next Euros with a new manager. And some new players

We were good for 60 and poor for the last 30. I'd be starting Barkley against Uruguay, and giving Lambert half an hour too.
I'd be tempted to drop Rooney. Sterling has to start in the number 10 role.

Didn't think Cahill and Jags were too bad. The second goal was because of a perfect cross. Baines and Johnson on the other hand killed almost every attacking opportunity by pissing stopping and going backwards. Cameron is better than Johnson

We weren't poor for the last 30, are you on about another game delilah? We should have thrown everything at them but went out with a whimper. We had at least 3 going down with cramp. No other team has had that happen so far. Fitness is definitely a concern.

Rooney getting shedloads, when yet again Stevie Me did the square root of FA.
How far is Gerrard off being a great midfielder? About 30 yards unfortunately, last night.

Actually 2 or 3 Brazilians went down with cramp, and Sturridge went down with a dead leg (if you watched the replay he got a knee straight into the back of the thigh).

I didn't think Jags was too bad as it goes. Compared to Baines, Cahill and Johnson he was positively outstanding.. Only Jags and Sterling, possibly Sturridge and maybe Barkley when he came on can take any credit from last night. H Spot on.

I'm reading these negative messages, on various threads, with some disbelief, I can only think that the there are a fair few posters on here who aren't English. What amazes me, Geoff is given your views on the way Tone would go about his business you'd normally scream blue murder at just how vulnerable we looked defensively. It's not about being negative it's about looking at the whole picture of the game. Offensively we looked very, very promising and when it all clicks we could be a real handful. At the back though and against the counter attack in particular we looked a shambles with very little organisation. I'll praise Hodgson for the good bits we did but I'll criticise him for not being able to set us up to at least not lose the game which ultimately could be the difference between qualifying and not.

Disagree, he got on the ball plenty, just took so long to do anything with it i think we all fell asleep during those bits

I bet Pirlo completed as many passes as Gerrard and Henderson did combined ...

Apparantly De Rossi and Pirlo combined only played 37 less passes than our whole team put together in the first half. Just to add Italy broke the record for passing accuracy at a world cup 602 passes with an accuracy of 93.2%

Glen Whelan would have offered more protection to a very poor defence than Gerrard, who was also very poor. Henderson ran aroud alot without getting close to any Italians. Wellbeck was knackered after half an hour and gave his full back no help and gave their full back a very easy game. Rooney only made one tackle all night and that was on Ross Barkley.
Defensively we were awful, but I think its a little harsh to single out the CBs.
Woy seems to have given no thought at all on how to organise his defence. He seems to have decided to play like Liverpool ( we'll score one more than you) but we have an average Wayne Rooney instead of Luis Suarez.

against a decent team, that's the most England have worked a keeper in a long, long time. Thought going forward we were excellent, but we STILL do not have a player who passes on the walk like Mr Pirlo. he hardly ever passes it whilst running. He simply gets his team 15/20 yards up the pitch in 2 seconds and has attacking players attacking the heart of our back 4.
We still do not coach players to do this at full international level. We see Henderson as a defensive midfielder and he's simply a p****d up puppy chasing a bloody balloon about for 75 minutes. No idea of position or shape. And as for Gerrard, words fail me at international level.

I feel used and abused. Backed you lot against my ancestral home and Ingerland laid an egg. Don't I feel a right twat. Woy got it all wrong and why in the f@ck he thought Jack W was the answer I'll never know. Pirlo was given acres of space and time on the ball (again) and surprise Ingerland lost. The whole FA deserves the sack, get some footballing brains in that organization. Oh and get some players who are worthy of the shirt. England is too good a footballing nation to have to put up with this $hit.
Go'arn Stoke!

Where was the famous English Bulldog mentality last night? Out with a whimper and it even pisses me off as a Yank! Of Hodgson had a clue you lot would be nailed on for the round of 16 at least. Not sure if this is a fitness concern or the ground was really hard. No Italy players went down. They don't unless they can get a freekick from it. You maybe right lets see how they cope with remaining 2 games and see if other teams are having same problems.

We won a world cup nearly 50 years ago, it hardly makes up 'deserving' of a place now does it. As for Hodgson, he's far from my first choice but he's the manager, we have to get on with it. As for it being a winnable game i agree, on another night we would have won that game, we were unlucky. As for being out thought tactically i dont think either of the managers did anything tactically wonderful. What did the italian manager do....tell his full backs to bomb on and pirlo will find you. Hardly a mastermind tactic is it. We havent had the bulldog mentality for years, but at least those guys showed some passion last night, we aint out, and it wasnt a wimper. Precious entitled fuckers do my nut right in!
