I think some people are reading way too much into whether we are going to be doing cheap deals, JP is competition in an area most of us thought needed addressing last season and if he does prove himself the win win.

Overall, happy with this. Just hope he's not 1st choice.

I thought the wing WAS a key area we needed to address. As you say, we only have kightly and maybe walters. Surely he's a good signing providing we bring in another decent winger to compete for positions with him. Unless Kightly is sold then we aren't going to be signing a 3rd right winger are we? You said he wasnt good enough. Someone like hoilett can play on both the left and the right wing so he would be ideal.

It's a more sensible deal than the one that brought Michael Owen to the club....and probably a damn sight cheaper too It's just as poor a decision. I hoped we might have learned our lesson. It's more baffling in that Owen was only ever going to be back up or sub in reality. Where as right wing is one of the man position that needs filling.

Not too fussed either way on this to be honest. Hope he gets stuck in and does the business but I have my doubts about him. Still it's only 1 year so not much to lose.

Good news I say, anyone with half a brain could realise what happened to him was down to TP just not getting along with him for whatever reason.
Good work.

One year is far better than the two year rumor... Hopefully this will usher in savings for better strikers and midfielders... Love pennant on the pitch but off it hes a problem...

It does make you think that whatever Pennant did last season to piss Pulis off it really wasn't that much. I'm sure if Pennant had done anything substantial (as many have described on here), then the Coates family would have (rightfully) blocked this deal.

Seems a decent enough deal to me and the fact that Pennant himself has convinced Hughes to go along with it is encouraging. He must be in no doubt now that this is his last chance of any sort of a top league career and I expect him to knuckle down. Whether he still has the ability is up for debate but he certainly should have enough to force his away into the matchday squad as it currently stands.
In terms of his behaviour, well we don't know do we. I'm happy to believe that TP froze him out for reasons he felt necessary but as Tone doesn't live here anymore as long as Hughes and the current players have no lingering resentment it's not an issue is it?

This could go either way couldn't it?
I don't see how anyone can be confidently proclaiming it be a disaster or jizzing their pants about it, as none of us know which version of Pennant we're going to see for 12 months.
If we're pinning all our wing hopes on Pennant being the answer to our prayers, it's a huge gamble. if we're still going shopping elsewhere with the intention of having JP as a back-up option then it's a good move.
Either way, Kightly has to leave as he's clearly not good enough. Get someone else lined up then say goodbye to Michael, as even an unfit and disinterested JP will be a better option than him.

A hungry Pennant, even though he's on his last legs physically, probably does have more of a potential upside at this point than Kightly or Ethers.
He has the quality at least, and has never been that reliant on pace.
If we can go into next season with Shea, Pennant and 2 others, having moved those two on, that'll potentially be progress.
Even with Pennant back in the equation, the wing options still need a bulldozer taking to them.
With Pennant now banked, I'd be on the phone to Billy Davies tonight offering him Kightly at a bargain price if there was any truth in that Forest interest.
And surely we'll see Ethers move on.

I'm much happier with a one year deal than two. I was quite worried when I heard that. I'm still in two minds about it, though.

The signing itself .... what the heck, it may work for a few games. The 'make do and mend' implications of the signing are pretty dire and dont auger well for the summer to come.
