Would have preferred Clucas than Thompson but as others have said probably best we can put out. But wow where will a goal come from other than Powell Brown and Matondo rarely score. Nor do the midfield 3 hence the need for Clucas.

Could this mean the Alfie deal is in Doughty? He's for next season really though, isn't he? Matondo and Clarke on the wings would be a bold move as they both seem so raw - but sounds more promising than McClean and Brown! While we're only ever a Fletcher niggle away from Vokes, though, hard not to still be praying for a striker of some sort Got that spot on Grapey. My biggest concern is not having Fletcher available and having no decent replacement. It's likely he will miss more games and he often fades during 90 minutes, which is understandable, with no obvious like for like replacement off the bench. Concerning that no firm rumours of a striker seem to be heard. Still time of course in the window.

It's pretty easy to source a fake a Canada Goose badge and sew or stick it on a cheap coat from Primark. Most chavs you see looking like they have spunked a grand on a posh coat have done this. I am not of course suggesting that our beloved chairman has gone down the chav route

Not sure why so many are excited by this guy, His career shows he doesn't last long at clubs, rarely starts for ROI and clearly a champ club included ourselves hasn't been that determined to sign him. seems like a poor mans Joe Allen

RIP Gerry. Great singer and a bloke who loved his home town. I'm not a scouse hater and I reckon 'You'll Never Walk Alone' is one of the greatest club anthems in the history of the game. OS. Yes he did indeed love the city but his friends always ribbed him that he lived in posh Wirral whereas my uncle for example always remained living in not so posh Walton. But he always had a funny comeback

I can confirm he was a lovely bloke. He was one of my late uncle's best buddies. The last time I saw Gerry was at my late Uncle's funeral 4 years ago. He gave a very tear jerking but funny eulogy. RIP sweet fellah.

Great to see Joe Allen starting even if it is to piss off Bayern who will now, if he is consistent, suggest we are now on a downward slope and heading for relegation and its all Joe Allen's fault.

Why do they have him on commentary at Liverpool games. How was that not a pen took his foot away. You just know if it was the other way it would have been a totally different story. Watching Arse v Burnley and hearing the droning tones of Alan Smith who always commentates on the Arsenal games. So not sure what your point is really.

Gary Neville was the co commentator for the recent Manchester derby...go figure. As for Carragher he seems to call it as it is. I don't have a problem with him. There again I don't have a problem with scousers in general.

One of the faint traces of romance left in football is the FA Cup 3rd Round Draw. I always look forward to it- more than the games themselves to be honest. I am with you trouser It's such a great part of the season and I love the anticipation of the draw. Sadly today I believe it's Robbie Savage involved But everyone should be calling this competition by it's proper name......The Emirates FA Cup

It really does seem that every time we play a Pulis side the game is absolutely dire and this one no exception. I guess other teams near the top will struggle to beat a thuggish dreadful Sheff W. I feel for Wednesday fans but I guess Pulis will draw and sneak the odd win to keep them up.

Clucas

With Allen fit there is a real conundrum in midfield for MON. neither Clucas or Allen are particularly great defensively. Clucas switches off and goes missing. Allen much more energetic and gets involved but lack discipline, but would sooner see either of them in there rather than Thompson TOB or the woeful Cousins. Clucas because of his potential goals output should be playing further forward. Maybe as an alternative/backup to Powell in behind the front 3 or maybe left in the front 3. An attacking 4 of Powell Campbell Fletcher Clucas sounds tasty with lots of goal potential.

Bursik 4 A baptism of fire, badly exposed by a poor defensive display but at fault for two of the goals. Hopefully it won't damage his confidence too much. Smith 4 What on earth was he doing for their second goal. Souttar 5 His lack of pace and mobility badly exposed today. Batth 6 As with Souttar lack of pace and mobility but rescued a bit by two great defensive headers at 4-3. Fox 5 Under pressure throughout and struggled to cope with their movement, better at wing back. Brown 4 Anonymous throughout the game. Mikel 6 Mostly solid, our best midfielder today. Powell 5 Should have scored early on and too often off the pace, one great move to set up Fletcher just after half time. Clucas 6 Great goal but most the game he seemed off the pace Fletcher 7 led the line well great set up of Campbell's second goal, but should have scored just after HT. Campbell 8 Two great finishes and forced the OG, that is what he is there for but two poor touches spoiled the opportunity for a hat trick. Collins 6 Helped steady the defence when we went to a 3. Cousins 5 Did he touch the ball? Gregory 6 Was a nuisance to their defence did what was asked Votes 6 As for Gregory. You gave Powell and Cousins (who you ask did he touch the ball?) the same rating of 5. I am pretty much in agreement with the rest but WTF???!!

Bursik 4 - should have done better with both goals but the third is harsh for him. But played as expected really Smith 4 - another really bad game from him Souttar 4 - at fault for the third and offered no protection for the goalie Batth 5 - dreadful in the first half but got better but again the protection for the goalie was none existent Fox - 5 - got beat a bit too often but not as bad as Smith Mikel - 5 - we couldn’t keep the ball and not great for the first goal either Clucas - 5 - would have been lower bar the goal which was cracking Brown - 4 - did nothing, shouldn’t be starting Powell - 8 - excellent pressing, some excellent cut backs, should have been given a peno. Key to our excellent attacking Campbell - 9 - just class, two brilliant finishes, has to start most games Fletcher - 8 - pressing and harrying and a lovely through ball. Should have scored from Powell’s cut back but him Powell and Campbell are sheer class Collins 6 - steadied the ship a bit at the back Cousins - 5 - didn’t do much, a crap sub really but not his fault Maybe a bit harsh on the defensive players but they did concede three at home. They also didn't make the most of some excellent pressing by the forwards so it was a poor defensive display. Agree with the high marks for Fletcher Campbell and Powell who are all a bit special in their own different ways. All 3 are a delight to watch.

Yes happy with that team. Be interesting to see how Clucas plays after a long layoff. Before injury he was poor let's hope he is up for it.

It looks like the bookies fancy us to finish top 6. You can get odds on promotion at 5/1 at best and top 6 finish at a measly 7/4. Neither bets seem particularly attractive.

I'm pretty sure we wont see the likes of Hudson ever again. Apart from the fact that he was a footballing genius, the best and most creative Stoke player Ive seen by a mile, the game does not create that type of player anymore, the game has changed so much. He could dictate the pace of the game, I don't think it's possible for players to do that anymore? He would put his foot on the ball and the play would simply stop around him, like he could stop the world. I mean can you even do that anymore, is the game simply too fast, the protagonists too fast and strong? And when he did move it was just beautiful, he could run through puddles without making a splash. Oh, and he just happened to be the coolest guy you'll ever see. And there he was, in his 24 year old pomp, playing for Stoke City. I still have to give my head a wobble that he was our player, Nicely put. Alan Hudson walks on water was often the chant and he actually appeared to at times. And indeed he was the coolest guy straight from The uber trendy Kings Road to Stoke-on-Trent!!! What a coup that was by Waddo!! And Waddo was a hair's breadth away from bringing Peter Osgood with him!! For younger posters you won't even begin to understand how earth shattering in football that would have been. I am struggling to come up with a modern day equivalent of signing Osgood and Hudson. Maybe someone could help.
