I was too young to understand Hillsborough at the time but I remember Ferry Across the Mersey being a favourite song of mine at the time and my dad used to put the LP on for me.
RIP Gerry

One of the nicest blokes you could ever meet. He used to own a sports club in Benllech, here on Anglesey, where I spent a few years playing cricket.
RIP GERRY.

How big a rivalry do you rekon that actually was. Gerry and the pacemakers and The Beatles?

Met him and the “pacemakers” ( possibly a literal reference) at Belfast International airport a few years ago. Never have I seen so much Orange Flesh crammed into false leather . Nice blokes though RIP

Always came over as a nice bloke. I remember being on the Royal Iris (one of the ferries across the Mersey) in the late 60s and someone playing Ferry across the Mersey on a transistor radio and all the passengers (including me) joining in! Surreal but very moving. These days I believe they play the song over the speakers as people embark and disembark the ferry.
RIP Gerry.

I can confirm he was a lovely bloke. He was one of my late uncle's best buddies. The last time I saw Gerry was at my late Uncle's funeral 4 years ago. He gave a very tear jerking but funny eulogy. RIP sweet fellah.

RIP Gerry. Great singer and a bloke who loved his home town. I'm not a scouse hater and I reckon 'You'll Never Walk Alone' is one of the greatest club anthems in the history of the game.

Yes he did indeed love the city but his friends always ribbed him that he lived in posh Wirral whereas my uncle for example always remained living in not so posh Walton. But he always had a funny comeback

Just out of interest, when did it Liverpool (and Celtic) claim exclusive rights?
