"Torrid time". Only ever spoken of about a fullback who has had a poor game against a winger.
A central defender never has a torrid time against a striker. A goalkeeper doesn't have a torrid fixture if they concede three or four goals. But fullbacks are given a torrid time by wingers on a surprisingly regular basis.

“In and around”
It works fine for “in and around the box” but gets used in circumstances that the in part really shouldn’t be.
“He had two defenders in and around him all match long”.

This:
"Lacking that extra bit of quality in the final third ..."

High press - chase after the ball
Low block - park the bus
Play through the lines - pass the ball up the pitch
Transition - hit the buggers on the break

Can they do it on a cold, wet Tuesday night in Stoke?
2-0 is a dangerous score line.
There are no easy games at this level
We need to get back to basics.

Anyone calling any home end the kop. It's a bit weird. It's just copying Liverpool's name for their home end, which in full is Spion Kop, which is a mountain in South Africa that it was named after.
