Not used so much in football but in MMA it certainly does my head in when someone is described as the GOAT.

The first recorded reference to a sports terrace as "Kop" related to Woolwich Arsenal's Manor Ground in 1904, four years after the Second Boer War. A local newsman likened the silhouette of fans standing on a newly raised bank of earth to soldiers standing atop the hill at the Battle of Spion Kop. Liverpool’s Kop was named for another 20 years. Just been reading about that, I'm learning today! Demolished in 1915 it said. Put me in mind of the old Stoke End at the Vic as well, which was just a big bank of earth wasn't it, no roof, away fans used get soaked. A lot of home fans like me got soaked at the old Stoke End. More than once my program was turned to papier mache.

‘Moments’ - off course it came down to moments you fucking idiot when most of the game is spent pissing about in the middle of the pitch.
‘Double pivot’ like two centre midfielders playing on the half turn is a revolutionary concept
‘In and out of transition’ - just stop losing the fucking ball in your own third pissing about and fuck it off quicker!

He couldn’t trap a bag of cement . My Johnny is not that type of player . Haha.. I was only trying to think last night of all the overused clichés when you were actually playing the game yourself. 'He's not that kind of player' was one frequently used when someone had been savagely mutilated by someone who obviously 'was' that kind of player A few more... Tiiiiiime! It's only a throw in. He's going nowhere. Put yer fkn foot through it. Keeperrrrrs! How long left now ref.

And since when were unfancied players members of The Bomb Squad?
The bomb squad is reserved for either soldiers who defuse bombs, or the production team known for its work for Public Enemy.
I'd prefer it if unfancied players were put on the Naughty Step. That works much better.

The idea anything from many years ago.... eg boggy pitches, violent players, antiquated stadiums etc... were better than the present day. And regarding it as an inalienable fact.

He's left nothing on the pitch .. That opens the door to the whole “left nothing out there” vs “left it all out there” debate

Those who go on about players never rolled around etc in the old days obviously never watched European Cup games in the 80s and the antics. I remember as a kid thinking, why do they bother player these games? Was a Cup winners cup game between Barca and Spurs. Was mad stuff and Spurs ended up getting fined. Garth Crooks called Barca 'cheats' after the game. The one thing he ever got right.

Schumy is gold for lil cliches and one liners - just another repetition of type at times. But, to both his merit and maybe misfortune at times, his tone often gives it away. Bless, he’s like an enthusiast boy trying to do good, sometimes chuffed and others a bit sour.
“Gritty performance”
