I don't disagree. One of the points I was trying to make is that my colleague is a democrat at heart. Trust me, I have worked with a load of selfish Americans who definitely couldn't give a shit about anyone other than themselves, but he is not one of them. What I found concerning was that he prefers Trump over Harris even though he would have supported Kennedy as the better democrat option. I don't follow US politics too closely but it seems from what he was saying that Kennedy and the Democrats have fallen out apparently. Labels become interchangeable Kennedy is essentially a Conspiracy Theorist more than he is a Democrat therefore it's unsurprising your Democrat Colleague would have more of an afinity towards Trump than Harris considering both Trump and Kennedy are Fruit Loops. Harris is merely incompetent but she is bereft of narcissistic tendencies. That might be a reasonable assessment. I assumed Kennedy was a democrat with no major flaws. Seems I was wrong and my colleague is just another political knobhead. Next time I see him I will question him on Kennedy.

Harris or Kennedy? No choice in my opinion. Kennedy is a bit batshit.

Now Nate Silver says she's got a 45% chance: "Last update: 12:15 p.m, Thursday, August 1: With Kamala Harris having another day of reasonably strong polling, we’re now officially in the zone where we can call the race a toss-up. She has a 54 percent chance of winning Michigan, a 50 percent chance of winning Wisconsin, a 47 percent chance of winning Pennsylvania, and a 45 percent chance of winning the Electoral College." I'm still not putting much stock in any confident predictions. It seems like everyone constantly freaks out about the latest media narrative then a week or two later there's a totally different one.

A few more swing state polls came out. Basically things look much better for Harris than for Biden but Trump is still the favourite.
There are a bunch of betting markets and 1 favours Harris while 7 favour Trump. So people can pick their favourite one and believe whatever they want.

I expect she will pick her running mate from one of the swing states which might give her poll rating a boost.

I mostly skip the news and just look at the prediction markets or ask a friend I trust who knows this stuff. The shortlist online is Kelly (Arizona), Shapiro (Pennsylvania), Beshear (Kentucky) with an outside shout for Walz (Minnesota). Shapiro is way up in the betting markets, but my friend seemed to think Beshear for some reason. Shapiro or Kelly would fit your swing state plan, but Kelly would then put a senate seat at risk.

My mate said he speaks just like Obama, it's weird and I should look it up.

Tim Walz it is. Non-commissioned officer for 24 years. Family man. Christian. Not marred by being in politics too long. Not the worst choice.

I was sure she'd pick Shapiro. Dont know Walz but not a heavyweight . He’s a safe shot. The military background helps a lot. He went viral recently and Kamala Harris is trying to find a way to motivate young voters, so that could play a role in it. However, I’d say that the main reason is that he’s an older white man from the Midwest who is straight and has served. He’s not exciting but he can’t really be attacked on a personal level by Trump et al.

We only know about it from his allies leaking what he's said. As his brain ages maybe he'll slip up and let his mockery out in public.

An absolute barnstormer of a speech from Kamala introducing Walz, who is quite a guy in all fairness.

To my surprise Kamala's polling ok across the Midwest. Nate Silver has her slightly ahead in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, which should be be enough to win.
So people at least *say* they're considering her.
I still think she'll fade once Musk and the other billionaires work out effective propaganda.

We’ve criminalized a lot of folks who are going to start the expungement process on those records.”

Great speech. We should give him a UK passport and get him over here. Looks a better candidate that Kamala to me. Democrats have a chance now though at least. Biden campaigned last time as a bridging candidate giving the clear impression he would only serve one term. He should have stuck to that idea and allowed a full and proper contest to choose his successor. It seems there are quite a few able Democrats like Kelly, Walz, Shapiro and even Newsom, who would all have been stronger opposition to the lying, orange, rapist, fraud, than a man in his early 80s.

Agree with this, he had the decency to back out and it certainly generated a ton of drama and memes. The betting markets like Kamala more - she's now favourite in another one. But fuck me it looks like a coin flip right now. Terrifying that US democracy is that close to the edge.

I was sure she'd pick Shapiro. Dont know Walz but not a heavyweight . Too much of their base hate Jews or Shapiro would have been the best pick by a mile. Him and Gavin Newsom are the most talented politicians in the party I think. Presumably Republicans will want to focus on BLM riots and social policies of Walz - not sure if that will work for or against them. Also JD Vance is highly intelligent and an excellent debater so I don't think anyone would get an easy night with that one

They had issues with Kelly too. Newsom's the governor where I live so I see more about him. He seems a decent governor but also just comes across as a slick politician, which puts me off. I heard similar about Shapiro being too smooth.

I see that Jesse Ventura is now endorsing Harris.
Unlike Trump's pick for VP, he appears to appreciate that she ain't got time to breed.
