He scored 8 goals for Preston in 20 Appearances. And then couldn't get in Leicester's team last season and obviously hasn't impressed Cooper so I'm not sure he's the one we should be holding out for perhaps letting other targets go elsewhere. I did like Rowett's point in his article that clubs like Stoke and Derby should look at players who had a good season two years ago and then didn't score many last year. A very good, interesting article on transfer windows and the problems of signing strikers in particular if you have time to read it: www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/gary-rowett-stoke-city-column-9503493I’m not sure we should be following Gary Rowett’s transfer advice tbh.

It was more about what happens during a transfer window at clubs like Millwall and Stoke and the frustrations of trying to get a star striker in. The point he made which I thought was very valid was that clubs in the Championship need to find targets which no one else is chasing otherwise on transfer deadline day you end up panic buying a player who isn't what you want because none of your top targets chose to come to your club. H e says that in six years at Millwall he never got the striker he wanted.

Says something about his desire. As a loan we have to be the best option as he’d be number one here. Sounds daft but if he goes to a club where he’ll be benchwarming I wouldn’t want him. Surely that's back to front? He would be showing far more desire if he went to a club where he had to fight for his place rather than one where he knows he could coast into the first team. Moran said the other day he wants to fight for a place in the side, not have it written in his loan contract. If Cannon wants to come here because he's being promised first team football I wouldn't want him. Very strange. Nobody is going to be guaranteed to start no matter how they perform (that's just an oatcake fantasy) but it being his shirt to lose rather than waiting for a first choice striker to falter and having to take your chance in a game or to before the boss reverts to his initial preference should be far more appealing to a young player to showcase his ability in the hope of progressing his career. I assume he moved from Everton to Leicester for that very reason wasn't like he was released by Everton, surely if that was how he thought he would just have stayed there.

Ayew has knocked him off the bench right away, so you'd think this'd be sorted in the next day or two?

www.thesun.co.uk/sport/30071579/leicester-city-transfer-tom-cannon-sheffield-united-celtic/LEICESTER CITY are looking to SELL striker Tom Cannon — with Sheffield United and Stoke both trying to raise the money. The Foxes have decided to cash in on 21-year-old Cannon a year after signing him from Everton and they will seek a similar £7million fee. As the Blades are finalising a takeover, they hoped to land him on loan for a promotion push but are now working on a loan-to-buy deal. Stoke City are also long-term admirers of Cannon — but may be reluctant to put the money down immediately for the forward. Cannon, who has one cap for the Republic of Ireland, is under contract for four more years but wants more game time. Last season, he only made 13 appearances in the Championship for the Foxes.

Well we certainly can't pay £7 million that's for sure.

Highly doubt we'll be able afford that

Well we certainly can't pay £7 million that's for sure. Not sure he's proven enough to command a £7Mil transfer fee. Especially as for us it would be a huge outlay and with his injury record and so so goal to game ratio, a huge gamble we simply can't afford to take.. I'd say thanks but no thanks, let Sheff Utd take the gamble on him which they can more afford to do than we can.

Couldn't we just pay it in installments?
Obviously try and wiggle the price down to something more reasonable.

Put him on a 7 year contract. That would help…. Yeah a long contract would help as the cost for ffp is spread over the length of the contract. Could also see us selling Ennis if we were to sign him on a perm.

Can you imagine… we offer £7m for him and a competitive wage. Leicester leave the decision to him so he sits down at his lap top and googles everything Stoke City related. By chance he stumbles on the Oatcake.
So within 5 minutes he knows we think he’s injury prone, not proved himself yet and not worth £7m. He knows the manager, head of recruitment and Chairman are wanted gone before September is out and the fans have a thread running asking if there are 3 worse teams in this division than us (and it’s still August).
I wonder what his decision would be.

Is it just me? I’ve never even seen him play? If I have he’s never stood out. Are people wanting this to happen because he’s a good player or because we’re desperate for a striker?

5 foot 11.
If we employ snow white as the manager we might have a chance.
Before anyone says it, there's been plenty of good small players... but a team full?

7m? No thanks. Move along! To who? How much can we spend? If we ain't in a position to spend £7m then we are not going to get a quality striker full stop If Leicester want rid and no club who wants him can pay that figure they will have to budge

Agree with all the comments saying we won’t be paying 7 million. Loan with an option for 7 next year more likely. I can also see him choosing Sheff Utd over us, but with the strikers they already have I think he’d find himself not playing regularly just like he did at at Leicester.

Surprised he's that cheap tbh Delap went for £15m Agreed. 7m isn’t bad and if we could get him for 5m + 2m on add ons he could make a huge difference come the end of the season. That said seeing Koumas today did lessen the need for a striker somewhat. Biggest priorities now are a CM to play alongside Lawal when he’s fit and a RB to start. A striker is still very much needed as if Koumas gets injured / recalled we’re in a real pickle.
