Still out of his depth. And I’ll still be shocked if he’s still here come December. Unfortunately I don’t disagree with this. We do have a lot of injuries at the moment, so for now I’m willing to give him a slight benefit of the doubt.

I really like SS and he comes across really well in interiews. He also seems to have a good relationship with the players and harmony in the camp wh8ch had been missing.
Given time we will see some good attacking football.
There are two issues however
1) the midfield 1,2 is a concern and leaves the CDM alone. Especially when playing out from the back.
2) the FBs. I don't mind them tucking in to make us narrow, Pulis did it but you have to have a workhorse winger in front of you.
I think he'll die on these hills.
I also think playing out from the back is a case of the emporers new clothes, and once the fad ends people will be thinking....were we mad. A more pragmatic approach is missing but I understand why teams do it.

As terrible as yesterday was, how come this verdict thread didn’t get any comments after our two wins last week (yes, I know one was against lower league opposition)? We looked decent against a good Coventry side. Are we only giving a verdict every time we lose, now? At least give the bloke some time!

A lot will depend on how he and his team react to getting stuffed yesterday. He needs to learn from his mistakes yesterday and hopefully makes the right changes as injuries etc permit. Getting effectively schooled by Tom Cleverley should make him sit up and take notice.

It’s true there should be more commentary to balance up when we have a win. I will try to do that so good shout by someone.
Re the analysis on loss Shoey says that’s done on Monday. Whatever the scenario we were done tactically down both sides. I’m no analyst so whether we were narrow, the wingers didn’t track back, or whatever that’s where they killed us yesterday.
So:
- could he have made changes earlier to counter? - could he have changed to 532? - would having a better striker made any difference? Even with same system? - are the players just not good enough re the system?
I don’t know but the analysis done should include the learning and what could/should have been done differently.
We will never know but it did just feel re the last 25 mins of first half you could see what was coming so system change was needed. Yesterday said we perhaps should have gone 532 second half and put Koumas or Bae alongside Tezgel.

If we beat West Brom - the moaning will stop for a week If we lose the next game it will be back.
In my eyes it feels like we are at last we are starting to build a team instead of steadying one. Under O’Neil and Neil it just seemed stagnate football. Too safe. Now it feels we are laying the foundations and with starting the re-build it won’t be smooth every week. Schumacher knows we need players in, the fans know we need players in. What I do think is, we need to start to learn and get players in before the start of the season. We always seem to bed players in way too late and they need 5 games to gel. I have faith.

I wonder how a small number of posters on here would feel if they got the same level of criticism and personal comments around how they do their job as they like to dish out.
We were poor yesterday and some of the players performances were sub standard but some of the comments are way to personal rather than being simply constructive.
I really hope none of our players / staff read this message board.

Problem is we’ve only ever got half a team …. Doesn’t matter who the manager is ! This time last year we were desperate for signings I’ll judge US , after the window (5 loans) …. Hope SS makes a fist of it , but IF he does the loans all go back at the end of the season Wonder if he was sold the ‘ you ‘ll be backed in the window’ line At the end of last season

He’s not helping himself by not using the players he does have correctly so he isn’t blameless either.

Neither Johnson, Baker or even Sidibe I don't think are renowned for their defensive qualities. His formation is being massively compromised by the form of Burger. Not Schumacher's fault. Or which work horse winger? Junho is definitely a workaholic but couldn't start yesterday and he and Million are equally as good as Etherington and Pennant used to be. And before you criticise him for the recruitment, apart from saying what he would like and approving any signings he has nothing to do with finding or signing players as head coach. The disappointing thing for me was that I think at the Q&A session he said he had been drumming into the players the importance of being pragmatic at the beginning of each half and not conceding early giving us a game to chase and the opposition the chance to pick us off on the break. Perhaps he forgot to remind them went out after half time but how many times do you have to say the same thing to players. They were equally as culpable and I don't think it was because they don't want to play for him.

My concern is that he was tactically exposed by a new manager with very little experience at any level. He will come up against much stiffer opposition this season.

I wonder why his form is poor?? He's not playing him as an advanced midfielder, he is playing him as a box to box alongside Laurent which is how he played at the end of last season with Cundle and Laurent. Playing Burger in that role should make us more sound defensively and less creative but we are weaker all round. From what I heard yesterday Burger was completely bullied and couldn't win a challenge. That is why he can't play the defensive role. Whatever can be said about Thompson's shortcomings, he never let's himself be bullied and if he loses a challenge he is like a terrier trying to win it back. He has rightly won that position on merit not reputation leaving Burger with one of the box to box roles. If he can't play there or show he's better than Thompson or even Lawal now Burger will find himself sitting on the bench. You choose the best player for each position and however good he was Burger is not the best player in any midfield role. Burger is being used where he is, is his own fault because he finds winning challenges difficult in the Championship. Maybe at the top level where players tend to give you space rather than closing down and challenging he could play DM but would be a liability in the Championship.

We were getting bullied all over the pitch. He neglected defending the flanks but the way the midfield were getting bullied if he’d addressed that they probably have waltzed through the centre at will. We lost far too many of our physical battles for him to be able to do a great deal about it. I think given how it panned out we lose the game 90 times out of a 100 and maybe get a goalless draw 10 times by parking the bus but who wants to watch that??

Burger and Laurent are deep lying midfielders whether they play DM or Box to Box their starting position needs to be deep, that’s not what’s happening. Cundle and Moran are AM’s who have big engines so are willing to put in a lot of work working back they’re not even similar types of player. The whole midfield got bullied yesterday including Thompson btw.

From what I've seen in other matches Thompson is a lot stronger and more tenacious in the challenge than Burger but fair dos if he wasn't yesterday. As I said I have seen nothing of the match. I couldn't find the highlights last night when I got in.

Neither Laurent or Burger are the type of player you want to take a high starting position it more or less completely stifles their attributes and asks them to be involved in slick interplay at which they’re pretty hopeless. In a 2:1 midfield from a deeper starting position they would be fine but that’s not what he’s asking of them. I actually disagree about Thompson anyway as a DM I think he wins far less clean ball than Burger even though he’s more positionally disciplined and tenacious. Just depends what you want from the position. I basically think the tactics are completely wrong for the players and with what we have he should either play Junho and Moran as his fabled 8’s who create and score goals or change to a 2:1 midfield to make better use of his plethora of deep lying midfielders and stop trying to hammer them into advanced positions. I recommend the latter but to stay true to his words he needs to do the former.

I disagree about Laurent I think he can handle quick interplay, can get into positions in the box(as can Burger) but also gets back to be the player who clears off the line as he did v Coventry. In my opinion Burger is not good at winning the ball when players run at him, is not strong enough in a pushing contest when he often finds his opponent receiving the ball and rollong off him but is good at interceptions and coming from behind or the side. That is more suited to the box to box role. He is not disciplined enough for the one DM role which Schumacher plays. With Lawal and Moran the squad will be much better and Laurent, Thompson and Burger will have to play every match at their best whichever position they are playing to keep their starting places. That is why I say give Schumacher time.

My only gripe at the moment is we've give the keys to someone I don't think we should have. I like SS and I liked the previous recruitment model which paid for itself x10 in one season. Walters to me has massive questions to answer but he seems to be answering to himself, he sorts transfers and puts himself infront of a camera at every opportunity.
