uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/stoke-city-close-appointing-plymouth-175750603.htmlStoke City are close to appointing Plymouth Argyle’s Steven Schumacher as their new manager.Schumacher is in advanced talks with Stoke and is set to be confirmed as Alex Neil’s successor this week following discussions over the past 48 hours, with a compensation package broadly agreed. The 39-year-old has established a fine reputation in his first permanent managerial post, leading Argyle to the League One title last season. Schumacher is renowned as a progressive coach, completing his Pro License last June, while Plymouth’s title triumph last season was built on the foundations of an outstanding home record, winning 20 of their 23 matches and losing just two. In contrast, Neil’s home record at Stoke was dreadful, losing 16 of his 30 league matches, and improving results in front of the club’s supporters is regarded as crucial by the Stoke board. Stoke have considered a number of other candidates in a lengthy process, including former player John Eustace, ex-Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom and Blackburn’s Jon Dahl Tomasson. Michael Beale, who was announced as the new manager of Championship rivals Sunderland on Monday, is understood to have held initial talks last week. Dean Holden, the assistant to former Stoke manager Michael O’Neill, was also interviewed. Yet Schumacher, a former Everton trainee who was once part of the club’s youth team which included Wayne Rooney, has emerged as the preferred choice to take charge at the bet365 Stadium. Stoke face Millwall at home this weekend and want Schumacher to be officially installed in the next few days. If, as expected, Schumacher departs Plymouth he will leave after just over a year in charge since succeeding Ryan Lowe, who left for Preston. During that time he has won more than half of his league games with 51 victories and 18 draws. Neil was dismissed on December 10 after the home defeat by Sheffield Wednesday. Stoke are currently 20th in the Championship table, just two points adrift of the relegation zone. Surely in need of its own thread now FM? Fucking Nuno has one and he was never coming here. I've kept off doing it all day, get it done man.

Stoke going for a cheap option. They don't knew what they doing sorry. The "cheap option" by buying someone out of their contract rather than a manager out of work so not paying compensation? You've not thought that through properly mate

Is that Dewsnip guy, their technical director coming too, He’s crucial to the set up by all accounts. No point not letting Schumacher have one of his key staff. Can't see how he could co-exist in the same set-up as Tricky though? You'd think he'd bring his assistant and maybe another couple, but it'd be odd if we found a role for him with Tricky here. Hopefully this is the end of the cultural cock!

How can Schumacher be the "cheap option" when the likes of Eustace and Heckingbottom are out of work? Schumacher done well with Plymouth. Do I think he do ok here, don't think so. Stoke had a good chance to get Nuno Santos in. Eustace and Heckingbottom are cheap options to if we looking at them to. So you think Schumacher won’t do well but eustace would

We know how this goes. He comes here, they get Jones or Eustace.
They do great and we either get relegated or another bottom half finish. Or maybe just maybe…

John Percy @jpercytelegraph Stoke are now very close to appointing Plymouth’s Steven Schumacher as their new manager. Compensation broadly agreed and now final details on contracts. Highly-regarded young coach with an outstanding home record at Argyle #scfc Not sure about anyone else, but I always feel reassured when percy bangs his drum

You have been blinded by rumour. Nobody other than the club themselves know if there was a chance or not

Highly-regarded young coach with an outstanding home record at Argyle #scfc Much more like it Stoke. A young, up and coming manager who likes to play fast attacking football. We can be critical about the club for a variety of reasons, but I cannot fault them one jot for going for Schumacher. Yes he's British, but he isn't the stodgy plodder sort we all thought we'd get. It's been 6 bastard years of trudging through shit football, might we finally be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel? Now wouldn't that be nice!

If you go on google some wag has put the following on there (which won't last long)
Steven Thomas Schumacher (born 30 April 1984) is an English football manager and former professional footballer, who is replacing Mick Schumacher as the test driver for Mercedes. In an interview he said “it’s because I want to drive away from Plymouth as fast as i can as soon as a bigger club come in for me - like Forest Green Rovers. Once the £10 a week offer is on the table I’ll be off quicker than a tramp on chips.”

If Percy says its happening its happening.
Would have liked Nuno but may have been a rumour with no substance.
I just hope he is allowed to concentrate on doing what he does best and not be expected to do 200 other jobs some other fuckers should be doing .
Otherwise like those before him he will be destined to fail.

If the news is true, it makes sense. Of all the candidates, he seems to have what we need right now. Hello old friends. Haven’t posted for a few years, but this subject has drawn me back in. This is what we know: Manager | Games | Win Rate | Points/Game | NES | 463 | 49.7% | 1.16 | Eustace | 173 | 45.1% | 1.57 | Schumacher | 107 | 52.3% | 1.76 | Carsley | 52 | 61.5% | 1.94
|
Alex Neil’s stats are: Manager | Games | Win Rate | Points/Game | Neil | 466 | 41.4% | 1.47 |
Conclusions: Young managers have halo stats - I guess they have to do well at the outset to stay in the job long enough. Neil’s stats at Hamilton were great too. The numbers favour Carsley, except he has only managed 52 games with ‘elite’ players at that level. It’s a big risk throwing him into a complicated situation like Stoke. Nuno’s reputation may outstrip the reality I don’t know much about Schumacher, but that’s where my vote goes. We need wins more than solid performances.

Proper mickey mouser, can we let him know there are loads of car showrooms up stoke , can take his pick. Rains bit more than Plymouth but coming from Liverpool, it'll be like a home coming.
Does he also wear the club shop ?
