Didn’t know they had a team! They were a Sunday league team for most of their existence to be fair. They were in Hanley's league the season Hanley got promoted. Uttox got relegated last season, so 2 divisions apart now.

I want to try and watch most of the local non league sides once around North Staffs/South Cheshire this season. Have I missed anyone from this list that are above them in the pyramid? Sandbach United Alsager Town Congleton Nantwich Town Kidsgrove Atheltic Leek Town Hanley Town Abbey Hulton Newcastle Town Foley Meir Stone Old Alleynians Rocester Eccelshall Stafford Rangers Stafford Town Brocton I only started my local non league adventure 18 months ago. I've pretty much given up on Stoke away games for now. Can't justify the price for the misery caused. Home games are arguably worse of course, but only takes 50 minutes out of my day there and back! Just got 3 of those on the list to go. I seem to have adopted Hanley as my non league team. Been up there about a dozen times. Futbology is a great app to download to see what fixtures are local to you each day, and track your entire attended match history if you like. Superb app. Others to add to your local list: Market Drayton Town Whitchurch Alport A few others between 45-60 minutes away from Stoke, but how far is not local...

I'll be at Barnton v Sandbach this afternoon, 1st match of the season. £5 to get in £2.50 a beer. Then hush brewery in town tonight, open evening with a singer on 🍻 1-0 win to Barnton, scored after 2 minutes, down to 10 men after 46 minutes, down to 9 men after about 60 but held on. Referees performance was up there with Atkinson away at Newcastle, let the bald headed big number 9 get away with leaving foot and elbows in all day, would book a Barnton player for pulling back on the half way line with no danger, then not a Sandbach player when Barnton broke clear towards the goal, certainly got the crowd going, especially as Sandbach captain an ex Barnton player, him and half a dozen Sandbach players constantly surrounding the ref, who had no bottle to stop it.

I went to the Sandbach game.
Sandbach had a man sent off after about 20 minutes and it killed them. He was booked for something (no idea what) then mouthed and was sent off. It was good to see actually. But other than that the ref lost the plot all game, not helped by players whining about everything.
Lost 2-0.

I went to Colne v Bury.
3-1 Bury in front of just under 1,500 with about 1,000 Bury fans in attendance. Totally dominant performance and judging by their start to the season I would fancy them to go straight up………

‘Young defender Julius Ndene has joined Pitching In NPL West Division side Leek Town. Ndene is capable of operating in a range of positions, including at the heart of defence and as a full-back.He joins the club following a stint at Uttoxeter Town in the Midland Football League. Having enjoyed previous success in Stoke's U18s team, Ndene has linked up with the Blues following some impressive pre-season performances.’

I'd have thought Sandbach would be there in their league this season. Signed a few players from higher up and had a good year last season. The player sent off was in America the other month with Stephen Ireland, his lad, Geoff Cameron, Keiran Westwood, Zat Knight, Chris Eagles for a 7vs7 tournament. Generally difficult for SOT/Staffs teams for compete in North West Counties. Hard to compete with the talent pool in the north west with Manc/Liverpool teams and with a lot of local teams being similar standard/budget etc, competing for same local players of that level. Especially with the quality of the Staffs Counties quite vast from NWC, as seen with Foley. Cheshire league, of the same level, is a better standard with them playing teams from Manc/North West.

Just received my £10 membership for Curzon Ashton in the NLN. It will now cost just £8 to watch matches there at a very decent level of non league, in a very smart stadium.

Seemed to forget it’s a contact sport. One slight downside of the non-league scene in recent times has been the increase in shithousery for me and the correlation between the amount of shithousery and success. There are a few teams who seem to be well-prepped in targeting opposition players and officials and these seem to be the more successful sides. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, or has it always been so? Some of the reffing is poor, but its not like the players don't make mistakes either? They seem to forget this. Ive always gone to non-league games knowing that the officials are going to make a few daft decisions but now it seem coaches and players really try to make a bigger deal of this to their advantage and act like its only refs who make mistakes in life. I'm surprised there are any refs left at that level tbh, they must be getting decent money. Are there any refs who use this board, it would be good to get their insights. I am a bit fed up of the relatively recent trend of players throwing their arms in the air towards the ref as if some grave injustice has been done to them every 2 seconds, and screaming as every tackle goes in. Otherwise its great when teams just get on with it!

Really annoys me what they get away with that you can actually hear nevermind what you can’t.

I think the refs see getting through games without booking players as a positive, and are nervous about ending up booking everyone, and refs do get hammered for doing that as well. I wonder if the refs and players get together before the season to spell out what is acceptable and not acceptable? That's probably not realistic at semi-pro level, but sometimes I think the ref should just call all of the players together for 1 min before kick off and tell them what's what and then most importantly stick to it. You do get to hear stuff at non-league level that is pretty abusive.

Totally agree! A few incidents have just passed me by without me realising. Especially if it happens near the dug out to begin with!

Did you clock Colnes management duo? Paul Weller and the one and only Vinny Overson! Only noticed towards the end and had to leave a bit early otherwise i'd have been over for a fanboy photo op despite the fact he was clearly fucking livid.

Yeh, first time I've been but it's a good set up. Decent beer available and easy enough to have a couple of pre and post match pints somewhere good if the opportunity arises. Will try to make a bit more of an effort in future. They got 700 i think which isn't bad at that level. What i find funny is even in tier 5 there's usually still a little mob behind the goal with a few songs. West do seem to have made a good job of getting locals involved, there was an awful lot of merch on display at the game and you see quite a few people wearing tops/hats scarves around Chorlton these days.

They get handed instructions and guidelines from the local F.A and leagues. "but sometimes I think the ref should just call all of the players together for 1 min before kick off and tell them what's what and then most importantly stick to it" This also generally does happen (mostly with the captain)

West Didsbury & Chorlton are the best supported away non league team I've yet to see. Not necessarily in terms of numbers, but for noise and atmosphere they were incredible.

To be honest with my health it’s difficult to travel that far on my own So try to get a couple of Stoke games a season when one of my lads are available The youngest doesn’t follow football The third eldest he has five kids under ten so weekend’s tend to be busy for him The two eldest are avid Dereham town fans Been looking and swaffham are at home to harwich Saturday so a short bus trip on the cards
