So hard to judge this one.
If we still have hopes for Hoever, or somebody similar, on (at least) a season long loan then it makes a lot of sense. If it’s Edwards and a lower league prospect at right back when September 1st rolls around it feels like I need to subscribe for a doom merchants subscription…
It’s going to be a stressful 2 months isn’t it. 😂

At 19, he’s already been involved in three seasons of professional football. That’s really impressive. League two player, so I can’t see the cost being ridiculous. Looks like a player with the same kind of build as Sterling. Without knowing anything about him, I’d be excited for the signing.

Hands up ! I have never seen him play!
On paper, this seems to make sense
League 2 , young player of the year 2022-23
League 2 , team of the year 2022-23
League 2 , young player of the month , January 2023
He at least seems like the kind of player we should be looking at.
78 league appearances by 19 years of age
I doubt he will be on huge wages ?
Hopefully we can give him his chance at a higher level.

Now this is the kind of signing I like. Young up and coming players who can develop and improve with us. The total opposite of Stevens.

You need a balance of course That doesn't mean 50% 33 year olds and 50% 19 year olds either Be interesting to see if Junior Potter (sorry...) would be first choice or seen as back up competition to another RB signing Depends on what he intends to do with Edwards

But, assuming he comes, I can't really see Tchamadeu-Edwards and Stevens-Tymon being the 4 full-backs on the books come Sep 1st.

Now this is more like it. Young players on the way up Let's sign about 12 like him then shall we and see how it goes. We would be lucky if three or four made the step up. It's an exciting signing but a big gamble if he is to be the regular rb stepping up two divisions.

I love these kind of signings
Sometimes players really step up to the plate in style ...Ian Wright Greenwich Boro to crystal palace... Roy Keane, cobh ramblers to notts forest.. .Jamey vardy , Fleetwood town to Leicester...
Good luck to him.
Hope he comes good ( hopefully for us )

But we won't be signing 11 or 12 of them as you put it, the management have been clear that it will be a mix of young & hungry players and experience.

Maybe not 12, but to be honest half a dozen players like this is a better investment than one wimmer or one berahino...for probably less money

Hope he comes good ( hopefully for us ) Be great to unearth a gem like Wright or Keane, but they made huge steps up from non league, this lad (if he signs) is only stepping up two leagues. If he`s standout in league 2, then he should be able to take it in his stride.

I am happy with a few gambles of this type . I prefer it to gambling on 33 year olds and 40 year olds.

You still do need the right environment and to play in a system that suits your strengths alongside players that compliment you. Conor Taylor won Rovers’ young player of the year (and promotion) yet he didn’t exactly take the step up “in his stride”. I still think he’ll come good but there is a massive leap to take.

We look like signing a young player and everyone is on board even though it's a huge step up. We sign one experienced 33 year old and most are losing their shit. It does my nut in. Let's just wait and see what we look like at the end of the window.

I see your point, but Taylor suffers from a chronic lack of pace. He will struggle to bridge the gap from lower league because he runs like his legs are stuck in treacle. I only have limited knowledge of Tchamadeu but he clearly has the advantage of speed.

It would be nice to hear something a bit more concrete with this one as it doesn’t sound like it’s particularly close to being done.
Potentially an exciting signing but there’s always going to be an element of risk with someone jumping from league 2 to the championship. If we have done our homework though, hopefully we are confident he can make the step up. We are going to have to take a few gambles anyway with the amount of positions we need to fill.

Apparently his best asset is , he is very quick , so different to Taylor in that respect.
The bottom line is if you are bottom half of the championship ( Stoke city) then you have to gamble somewhere.
We can't go round signing good proven players because we are not in that game . Maybe Southampton and Leicester are in that game, but we aren't.
Might as well gamble on youth as anything else.

I feel like if all of the places you can take a gamble, full back is certainly one, especially if they are quick.

I only have limited knowledge of Tchamadeu but he clearly has the advantage of speed. Taylor needed 15-20 games in a back 3 with experienced players to be able to make the step up, or for us to see whether he was actually capable of making that step. I don’t think he got a chance to do that, and I think he’d earned the opportunity through his performances at Bristol. We have 2-3 maybe 4 players we could look to integrate into the squad this season, but I don’t think AN is the right man to do it.

Nice to be looking at someone seemingly on their way up for a change at least.

Very rare we venture into League One / Two / non-league for potential first-team players (not counting the ones that go straight into the youth teams / U23s like Bursik, Telford, Sweeney etc.)
Jack Bonham (2021/22) - Gillingham Alfie Doughty (2020/21) - Charlton Adam Davies / Liam Lyndsey (2019/20) - Barnsley (albeit just promoted) Jordan Thompson (2019/20) - Blackpool Mama Sidibe (2005/06) - Gillingham Clint Hill (2003/04) - Oldham Chris Greenacre (2002/03) - Mansfield
unless I'm missing any
