I can’t agree with that, 20/25 years were producing players that would go on to be regulars in the first team for a number of years. It’s still too early to say if any of the current prospects will make the grade. Agreed, it’s too early to say. Who are these players, 20/25 years ago that became regulars? I’m not sure when Griffin, O’Connor and Clarke signed , but if we do count those players, apart from Griffin, the other two would definitely not get into our current first team. Unless I’m missing somebody? It’s not fair to compare if players back then would get into today’s team as they were mostly playing in the third tier. The point I’m making is that in terms of producing first team ready players, the academy was more productive 20 years ago than it today. Pound for pound, with todays budget and facilities compared to back then I’d say we’re comfortably underperforming.

We could be a league 1 side and would probably have more youth players starting. Guess it boils down to the circumstances of the club. I imagine Blackburn are starting more players because they don’t have the resources we do.

Ok but it sounds like you are saying we produced more players back then that were first team ready, but that you can’t compare then and now because we were at a lower level?! I don’t think the likes of Dean Crowe, Goodfellow and others, would get a sniff in the current set up if I’m being honest - simply not good enough for this level. I reckon if we were in league 1 we’d have a fair few younger lads regularly in the first team squad than we did 20 years ago.

You can forward the clock a few years and we produced the likes of Henry, Wilko, Dicko, Paterson and Shotton. All were good enough for the Championship and three of them went on to play in the Premier League with us. So my point is relevant, the era that we were relegated to the third division and then our promotion back to the second division we were producing a good number of players who went on the either play lots of games for the first team or have a very good career at a decent level elsewhere. We just haven’t been doing it for a number of years now. Not only are we not bringing players through for our first team but hardly any of the players leaving the academy are going on to have a decent career elsewhere.

Jojic appears from nowhere on the bench😳 He was allowed back home for a personal issue I was told. Feel for the lad to be fair, in a strange country and it's clearly not worked out how anyone would have liked......

You'd think a loan and some regular games would've occurred by now, a local conference side or summit.

He'd do very well to get a loan at that level, just not good enough National League North at a push
