Been a really good player at this level. My worry is that he's passed his best. He'll be 31 in October so should really have at least 2-3 years left in the tank!  |

I've always been impressed with him when we've played PNE.
Will he play alongside Laurent as the 6 and 8 in a midfield three?

Given where we are I think it’s a very solid signing. I understand the concern around age on here after the abominations of Gayle, Vokes and others, but on the flip side Man City just won the treble with at least three 32 year olds in their squad, and he doesn’t seem to have an history of major injuries either. You’d imagine at 31 he’d hopefully still have enough in his legs to be a good player for us. In Durban’s promotion winners, Jones, Smith, Doyle, Kendall and Richardson were all regulars over the age of 30. In Waddo’s promotion team, it was a similar number. I don’t think it’s age profile that particularly matters, rather a balanced team that is more effective than the simple sum of its parts. |

He’s always stood out as a decent player against us and he’s a far from over the hill yet so I expect him to be a good addition.

I’d argue it’s unrealistic to have every player in the squad at their peak. Even Man City have shown you need to manage a squad with a few players past their peak, but still able to do a job alongside some younger players. In addition to those, Pulis and Hughes’s best teams had a good blend of youth and experience. Delap, Etherington, Faye, Pennant, Fuller, Crouch, Whelan, Beattie and others were key players for us at various points and all in their 30s at the time. |

I’d like to think both will have a bit of licence to get forward with a “Pearson” type behind. To me Laurent has the skills to be an 8 and Johnson slightly more advance but not to the point of a 10 if that makes sense. Neil isn’t playing with an out and out number 10 whatever the weather |

Yep. He was probably right as well. He really wasn't Gary Neville says he was. They were trailing Newcastle by 11 points, they only clawed it back when two experienced players, Schmeichel and Cantona, returned and were both phenomenal in the run-in. |

Because of this thread, I looked up Marco Gabbiadini and Paul Stewart as I was sure they were 34/35 when we had the pleasure of their company but was surprised to discover Stewart was 32 and Gabbiadini was only 29.
