Wasn't it Daniel Johnson who had a set to with either Crouch or Joe Allen in a match at Deepdale in one of our first seasons back In the Champo? May have been with both of them but recall something happening & it proper kicked off.. wasn't it paul Gallagher

Wouldn't be my pick for midfield based on ability and age, but I'm just a fat arse on a messageboard and not a pro football manager, and beggars can't be choosers in terms of numbers. We're desperate let's be honest. Ultimately if Neil wants him we have to back him and give the lad full support, which if he gives everything he will get hands down and unconditionally. Need to get the ball rolling now and hopefully this is the start of the domino effect and more quickly follow. He will definitely contribute more than Powell when the fitness and injuries are factored in, so on that basis it is an improvement on last season. Fully expect 12 goals off him next season then

Do remember Johnson shaming Butland in that night match at Deepdale when Nath was in charge, firstly pushing a daisy cutter of a shot into the net. Was sadly the night we knew Butland had gone as far as form went as he never recovered from that night as his howler cost us the second aswell.

Whilst this imminent signing is slightly underwhelming given the season he’s just had the hope is a new challenge will get him going again. I believe he played a deeper role last season than he’s used to so hopefully Neil will use him further forward. He’s an excellent ball carrier and works off the ball with an eye for goal. Absolutely an upgrade on Powell

www.lancs.live/sport/football/transfer-news/daniel-johnson-preston-stoke-city-27206425But players like this do not come around very often, meaning PNE will need to go in another direction. It is highly unlikely they will find another Daniel Johnson. Very few North End players have graced the turf in such a way - combining athleticism and power with elegance and craft. He provided moments that will be cherished and remembered for years to come; a player whom future generations of Preston fans will be told about. So farewell, DJ. It was a sheer pleasure to watch you play football the Preston way.

If he is our first signing then its good to compare with who we have released? Comparable to Powell? Better injury record? Is he a better player? We will see I suppose. Using the FM23 database. Similar to Powell when played as an AM, not quite as good but not a lot in it. I expect he’ll be played as the more attacking of the two CMs ahead of the DM in a 433. In which case he’s better than Baker but not as good as Smallbone. So no improvement on what we had last season, but an improvement on what we’ve got for this season, not that that’s saying a lot. Regular champ player that scores goals and gets assists regularly but not as good as Smallbone who's had one season and looked awful for most of it 🤔

Similar stats to Powell but a much better fitness record. That's an upgrade for me. Kin 'ell, I bet there's a case for Darren Anderton to have a better fitness record than Powell!!! 😁 That would be the Darren Anderton who made 593 club and international appearances?

Been a really good player at this level. My worry is that he's passed his best. Yeah, that's the fear. I remember all the Charlton fans being a bit bemused by the reverence we held Fuller in when they saw the version that turned up there. But he could have a couple of good years left. It's impossible to know. Got to guess he'll be in a bit of a job-share with another younger player, maybe Jason Knight?

Been a really good player at this level. My worry is that he's passed his best. I think creative No 10s like Johnson can go up to around 33. He’ll be required to use craft, technique and vision and you don’t require large reserves of stamina for that.

Been a really good player at this level. My worry is that he's passed his best. It is a worry isn't it. Hopefully he's got as season or two in him but recently our signings of "older" players have lacked due diligence and haven't been fit for purpose. We can only hope for the best and if he comes off he will be a cracking signing.

He didn’t acquire the nickname “sicknote” for nowt though mate I know, but, how many Stoke players past and present have managed almost 600 games in their career (sicknote or not)? Renowned as a player of huge potential, Anderton's career was constantly frustrated by injury, earning him the nickname "Sicknote",[5] which was coined by Portsmouth goalkeeper Andy Gosney.[17] I think a lot of it was during the latter part of his career in fairness. But if that’s your nickname there’s a reason for it of course.

I wouldn't have thought he'd have had it in America whilst away on international duty. Chances are he'll be having it when he returns to the UK before / if he's unveiled.

For a free agent with no fee you can't complain. A solid squad player and even if he's slightly passed it I'm sure he will still have quality about him.
We need more depth and seems a solid addition.
Hopefully fans give him time to settle in

Given where we are I think it’s a very solid signing. I understand the concern around age on here after the abominations of Gayle, Vokes and others, but on the flip side Man City just won the treble with at least three 32 year olds in their squad, and he doesn’t seem to have an history of major injuries either. You’d imagine at 31 he’d hopefully still have enough in his legs to be a good player for us.
