I don't know a single person who would catch the bus in to town on a night out. Not one. I used to as did lots of others Got somewhere with good transport, like Nottingham and you see people doing exactly that True that, I always got the bus to town when they ran regularly and late enough. Not sure itâs make that much difference nowadays though

The geography doesn't help, if the train station, city centre, university and festival park were all within a mile or so of each other that would have been so much more helpful. But alas. Was never an issue in the late 80's / early 90's

Itâs moving in the right direction. My worry is itâll stop at phase one and weâll just have a load of car parks. The Goods Yard in Stoke is a really good start, Stoke as a whole is seeing far more legitimate investment than Hanley. The Spode site is a really good initiative which is actually getting done. Iâm far more sceptical about the city centre though. Letâs hope thatâs all we can do

of course it would only one of many issues though I don't know a single person who would catch the bus in to town on a night out. Not one. We used to. Was a cheap way up there.

I used to as did lots of others Got somewhere with good transport, like Nottingham and you see people doing exactly that But it has to have good places to go Depends on what you want. Iâm a boring bastard so the last time I went Hanley (last December) I really enjoyed it tbh. We there from about 2pm to 11.30pm all told. We went the Unicorn for an hour or two. Then Rage Stoke where we did axe throwing and shooting. We then walked to Pixel Busters. An arcade with retro consoles too. Really good if you like the nostalgia or have kids. Only 6.50 and you can stay there as long as you want. Robertos for tea, excellent as usual. Than the casino. Was really good.

Good reliable public transport is vital for any city's growth. In the Potteries it's deteriorated every time I go.

There should be a tram from the station to Hanley.
It should be the starting point.
It should be relatively easy to do.
College Road and the surrounding area have been fine since the bus gate was put in. Thereâs been no change with traffic around the area and College Road isnât a death trap now.
Get a tram on there.

Is portofino still operational?

Is portofino still operational? Good question, don't know but someone will. Mind you, two things: - went there many times in the 80s, because it was a favourite of my Dad's. And it wasn't cheap even then - I think quite a few years ago (the Goddess that is) Greta Scacchi must have been appearing in Hanley (I know, I know - sounds implausible). Anyway the Sentinel had a story in which she had commented in an interview that the quality of restaurants in SoT was rubbish. Tbh, as she probably lived in Primrose Hill or Holland Park, that would not be surprising. Her views triggered much angry retaliation, including from Portofino, which (in my memory) offered to feed her for free.

I'm sure it wasn't there when I left.

We have very very few restaurants compared to other cities/towns.And even less independently owned ones,if it wasn't for the influx of immigrants setting up cafes/restaurants the city would be in an absolute dire state. I suppose it is now tbh.

I've never rated Portofino, never been to Roberto's and love La Bella Napoli but thought that it was better when in their old building on Cheapside

Hanley has Betty's Burgers and Greggs, what more do you want after you've had an artisan Strongbow in the Tontine?
