Apparently the Cresta Court Hotel in Altrincham where the recent 300 arrived in is owned by Greg Dyke, Vine Hotels has acquired Best Western Cresta Court in Altrincham, South West Manchester. The company, whose Chairman is former BBC Director General and former Chairman of the Football Association Greg Dyke, is jointly owned by Mr Dyke, Vine’s Chief Executive Garin Davies and Andrew Rouse. He donated £55k to Labour in the past. All weddings and bookings were cancelled so Greg can line his pocket, I've stayed there before and recommnded people to stay there for next years Manchester marathon. A primary school and 2 all girls school are within a mile... My business partners daughter is at Loreto round the corner. He isn't very happy about it all to be fair.. My son studies there. Great college to be fair (unless you're on about the grammar school which is also excellent)

The tram to be fair is great in Manchester. A tram system in Stoke would be brilliant. Will never happen i don't suppose but wouldn't it be great 😔

We are running out of hotel rooms, see the issue around the Cresta Court etc. Prices are doubling through lack of availability, what effect will that have on tourism etc.? How many spare rooms do you have to fit a few in?

He needs to build an extension by the sounds of it, as its good news for us this side of the water: www.dutchnews.nl/2024/10/refugee-arrivals-fall-25-ahead-of-strictest-regime-ever/This article was from a few weeks ago admittedly, but still .....happy days ! (Saying that though, the end of our road where the Best Western hotel is, is an absolute shithole now......)

The official government statistics for small boat crossings can be found here - UK Government Small Boat StatsLast week alone a total of 1,007 illegal immigrants were detected landing in the UK via small boats crossing the English Channel. I haven't yet found the official statistics around how many of those 1,007 people were men. Here is the data for the small boat crossings from 2 November 2024. 2 November 2024: 188 migrants 4 November 2024: 178 migrants 5 November 2024: 263 migrants 6 November 2024: 307 migrants 7 November 2024: 133 migrants 8 November 2024: 144 migrants 9 November 2024 : 572 migrants 10 November 2024: 209 migrants 11 November 2024: 0 migrants 12 November 2024: 0 migrants 13 November 2024: 0 migrants

There's a very simple answer to the problems caused by channel-crosser men. Register them, send them on a month's course on how to repair potholes, supply them with the tools, pay them a living wage and make them work nights repairing the billions of potholes that are costing the country a fortune in compensation. Winners all round. They're on the payroll and pay tax and rent their own homes, saving the country billions to house them as well as improving our infrastructure massively. If they refuse to do it then send them back where they came from. That's fair inneet?
OS.

That'd screw the councils and highway authorities with big contracts and frameworks with the likes of Galliford Try, Kier et al, nevermind the blokes already employed to do this. Bear in mind we'd rather tart up the entrance to Stoke station for the umpteenth time, than resolve simple issues with our drainage and roads. It's a race to the bottom this time with labour imported from the rest of the world instead of Europe. No wonder you can't generate any interest in the construction industry for kids in this country. Besides, it's probably less hassle delivering uber eats.

Although I'd add that giving them safe passage into the UK so they can claim asylum and be granted all of that before they get here on precondition of entry would be even easier. Another huge government albatross of a problem solved on the Oatcake!

The sensible option of course. Problem being, who would we then have left to blame for things? They'd still get the blame Quite possibly Will. However my point was that they're not particularly interested in ACTUALLY solving this issue because it provides a convenient deflection away from the far bigger issues that they're not addressing. I've suggested in the past that the Tories engineered the small boats 'crisis' for that very reason.

This must make him the greatest prime minister in history?
Why are we still poor though with terrible public services. I thought all we had to do was get rid of the immigrants and we'd all have our own yachts by the end of it.
