What is the point you're making here mate? Seems a defeatist attitude. Yep, the typical lefty attitude is “well it happens else where so it’ll happen here”. Just let it slide as a fact of life. It isn’t, it can be acted on but no fucker is interested.

What is the point you're making here mate? Seems a defeatist attitude. Or a realistic one. In the last 8 years, knife crime in London has increased by 11% but in West Yorkshire, across the same period, it has doubled. The defeatist (and lazy) attitude is to deliberately elect to see London as the centre of all our ill's, when it simply isn't. The problem is far more nuanced and requires far deeper analysis, than simply demonising our capital city.

All these knife stats seem a bit misleading to me.. there seems to be a hell of a lot of people in London being stabbed to death. Then there’s the gun crime, and also wasn't long ago we had that deranged fucker throwing acid in a woman’s face.. It’s not somewhere I’d want to live that’s for sure

Yet there has been exponential growth, both in terms of overall size of population and payrolled employees but also, in terms of house prices for the last 50 years.

When I was growing up Hainault was in Essex
People with a Mental disorder with a tendency towards violence were kept away from general Society for its protection
In more enlightened times more people with Mental disorders were deemed fit to be cared for in the Community with Care Supervision
Austerity dictated that less Mental Health Carers were required
A COVID phenomenon presented more instances of Mental Health issues but access to services deteriorated
Government increased NI ring fenced specifically for Social Care
Some people believe it's a lefty construct that Mentally challenged people enact extraordinary violent acts
Government reduced NI to give employees an on average £900 increase in wages per year
Social Care Budget for 2022/2025 slashed by 58% to reverse the previous increase in NI
Some believe that Sadiq Khan should be in Hainault at 7.00 a.m. in the morning Stopping and Searching potential Sword carrying lunatics
I think that about covers most things

And frankly he's a class apart from the other candidates so I don't wonder why!

This very thread is repeatedly demonising it.
Just post after post of repeated negative stories about a place most of the contributors haven't even lived in.
I've lived all over London, especially Brixton and Croydon. My wife and all her family are from Croydon, most of them still live there. My father's side of the family are all from Brixton, South Norwood and Croydon, none of them would characterise where they live, in the same terms that are (ignorantly) portrayed on this thread, day after day. I know Croydon like the back of my hand and there isn't a single street that I would be worried about walking down, regardless of the time of day.
Actually scanning back through this thread from the start and virtually (maybe even entirely) all the people who actually live in London seem to have a very different opinion about the place, to those people who, erm ... don't.

More that there are a raft of other societal issues where the "it happens everywhere" argument doesn't float. In the building where I work there is a TV in the foyer, and I watched this unfold for 20 mins or so yesterday, gob on floor. Loads of my passing colleagues were completely desensitised to it. Just another knife incident. It was nuts. I came on here and responded to what I perceive to be a similar response. Maybe we just need to start shooting the perpetrators in the dick. If you're going to get stabby, we're going to turn up and shoot you. In the dick. Bang. Testicle pâté in your four day old Spiderman underpants. I agree the problem is complex. I don't know what the answer is, beyond a more intimidating and intrusive police force. But then one problem creates another. I do know that I don't want to live in a country where machete wielding savages maurading around metropolitan areas is considered par for the course.

S&Sing a Looney with a Sword? Which is why I’ve put “ Who knows what the real truth is.” in relation to the figures that were quoted by Paul it’s a counter argument. I don’t believe in them because they can be twisted to suit peoples own agenda. In relation to the “loony” as you put it with the sword. I’d rather hear the full account of the incident / his background before politicising it. In relation to Stop and Search as Mayor Khan said himself it does work if it’s targeted and it’s been responsible for many arrests. Like a lot of things in life it’s easy to knock something that’s already in existence. We simply don’t know what would happen if it was stopped so it’s conjecture but for me it would mean you could whatever weapon you want out with you without fear of being stopped and stabbings would rise because there’d be more people carrying. As has often been stated you can’t measure the figures re how many people due to the fear of S and S alone it’s stopped from taking a knife or weapon out with them through it. It’s not the solution as there needs to be more investment but it’s one of the few tools out there at the moment available to police to help them and I’d rather that and put up with a small amount of inconvenience than have people wandering the streets carrying knives without fear.

With respect Paul I think that’s quite an arrogant answer. Does that mean that people aren’t allowed to have a valid opinion around Israel or the Ukraine because they’ve never lived there. With the www. it opens the whole world up to people, plus people can talk to people who do live there and base their opinion from their experiences. I think if we’re honest this isn’t around people who live there being experts and those who don’t knowing anything it’s about politics. The majority of those defending London (from looking at the likes and posts) are on the whole more left leaning so will defend Khan because of his politics and not because they live or have lived there (So have I). I’m sure if it was a Tory mayor with the same record the views would be very reversed and people on the left would be scrambling to say how useless a Tory mayor would be. It’s the same with the recent defending of the Met Police re the Israeli gentleman crossing the road that was no different than the guy with the piano at the station. Both were trying to antagonise a situation but the response was very different even though the behaviour of the men and the officers wasn’t. The argument isn’t truely about what’s right or wrong / for or against it’s about people nailing their political flag to incidents to try and score browning points. In relation to yesterdays incident. It was truely tragic because some poor lads lost his life and some poor family a son that’s the tragedy here and I’m sure we’ll hear more over the forthcoming days about the murderers history and the failings / missed opportunities of agencies. Right now whether it’s London, Birmingham or any big city things need to change around so many things to get the country back on track. There’s so many reasons why this countries in a mess at the moment. Like it or not London as its capital is its flagship so it gets the attention. As I’ve said there I’ve lived and worked there and am still a frequent visitor. The square mile is truely beautiful however from my experience leave there and you enter a whole different and more dangerous land. You can’t compare Greenwich, Richmond and Kingston to Barking, Croydon and Hackney they may as well be different parts of the country but they’re all London (this is what often dilutes the stats great wealthy areas mixed with areas of great poverty).

For those who want more police powers, more police etc because they think that will help stop violent crime, why do they also blame Khan? Khan is powerless to increase police powers and he has increased the number of officers (by 1800 in London) but he is limited by budget. Surely the Home Secretary is more responsible as the HS has the power to actually change the things you lot say are the cause of the increase in knife crime in London.
