He turned us down, get over it. I'm well over it thought Joe could have gone the season before ,Baker looked better along side Allen hope thats cleared it up for you.

We don’t need 5 average defenders just 4 good ones. Time and time again teams just stroll through middle of the pitch against us. I was told on here that simply wasn't true, people weren't waltzing through our midfield easily. All I know is that I've seen what I've seen and you are absolutely right. Chill people, it's a preseason friendly - hope no one's gone and jumped off a bottle-kiln or something. UTMP

Mixed feelings coming away from that game today. On the plus side, it was an absolute joy to see my team play a few miles down the road from me. On the down side, that first half was an abysmal performance. We looked like we hadn’t a clue what we were tying to do. The second half was better, particularly after the introduction of the subs. You can see, if you look hard and possibly a bit wishfully, that there is something there. But the bottom line is, I loved being at Tynecastle today watching the Mighty Potters with a good number of fellow Stokies. I hope a trip north of the border becomes a regular part of our pre-season. You originally from Stoke mate? If not... Why Stoke as a team to support?

There's just too many like this with Bursik, isn't there? Although seems churlish to pick up on any one particular failing after watching the last 3 friendlies! Yeah he struggles when they’re low and close to him. Close shots are the hardest imo from when I’ve played in goal but I’m not a pro. I can only think he hesitates and may want to use his feet, doesn’t goes down and then his hand isn’t in a strong position. Past just having really weak wrists which I can’t accept any pro keeper having, I can’t think of another reason why it happens so often. You're right with the feet thing most modern keepers save more with the feet than their hands ,when I played Sunday's the odd save with the legs now they are like star fish virtually every time.

Line up next week. Bonham Clarke Taylor Flint Wilmot Tymon Baker Laurent Smallbone Campbell Brown No, no Brown please. Why are we trying so hard playing him every match? As much as he is hardworking, things just won't work if he's around. The thing is he’s ok on the right of a front three and with a proper 9 abd gayle left of him we’d look miles better but of course where that leave Campbell,

The positive is surely Campbell starting to look sharp again, that has seemingly gone under the radar and more so since the Gayle signing? He's scored two absolute belters. Proper finishers goals. If he hits top form, along with Gayle, we will have a really good season. I thought Tyrese was poor today - great finish, but didn't look interested. The contrast when Gayle came on and actually pressurised their defence into making mistakes was incredible. Gayle and Smallbone looked great for the 30 mins they were on - actually proactive rather than going through the motions.

Well we look marginally better with a 10. No way Laurent Baker and Kilkenny can play in the same MF. This is one of the more worrying comments from the past 10 pages - I imagined Baker, Kilkenny and Laurent would be our starting middle three. On this evidence, it looks like the 3-5-2 will collapse and we're back to square one with needing a decent 'man in the middle'. The fact Tymon and Clarke were also poor today was a huge kick in the teeth. I honestly believed the wing back situation was sorted with these two. We know what Josh can do on the left, and Clarke played as RWB a number of times in Scotland last season and did very well. I can't understand why they're not clicked in this preseason.

Clarke doesn't look anything like the sort of player to play RWB, he shits himself as soon as he goes over the half way line and he doesn't take anyone on. He's a right back or right sided centre back.

Tymon played a significant part in both of their goals.
If you get chance to see the second goal keep focused on Tymon from the halfway line until his half hearted appearance in the penalty area.

There seems to be a lot where you automatically think ‘keeper should have done better there’. Maybe it’s me but when the ball is low and it’s close to him he cannot adjust in time. Doesn’t matter how good he could be, right now I don’t think he’s good enough to start. Still think a loan a league down is what he needs, while we bring in someone like foster / a proven keeper (not Bonham) That's a really tough save to be fair. You practice them in training all the time but they don't get easier. What everyone is missing is he doesn't have to make the save if Baker doesn't fuck up. He should have first given it to Bursik earlier who had made himself available. As soon as he didn't it's row Z time. Don't fuck around with it there. If it was a proper match and I was in goal Id have been hammering him

Positives from today: In Taylor we seem to have got another gem of a central defender. Laurent looked much sharper today, and showed more defensive awareness. Smallbone showed glimpses of what to come. I think he will be a great addition. Gayle got some minutes under his wings again. Campbell scored again, despite being shite before that. Hopefully it will give him a confidence boost. Most disappointing to me: Wilmot doesn't look comfortable at all on the left, and his decision making is a worry! Baker was really crap today and needs to up his game! Bursik still doesn't fill me with confidence. I agree with most of this, however Bursik did make 3 really good saves that I can remember. Their second goal was Baker’s fault, he had the chance to pass back to Bursik but didn’t, does this show a lack of confidence in the keeper? Brown and Campbell do not work as a pair, we need a central focal point to work from OR a number 10 behind them. Saying that, Gayle made a hell of a difference vs Brown. As soon as we ditched the one holding midfielder and put a number 10 on instead we looked a totally different proposition, and we must start like that on the front foot vs Millwall. Or else it will be all over by half time. Great day out though, me and my boys have had a blast.

I’ve no idea why my dad took me to watch Stoke play Spurs in April 1974, but I was smitten. And it’s been Stoke ever since. Through thick and thin. Mostly thin of course! Btw, I still have the programme from that game (a bargain at 8p!). And still in excellent Nick. I was just checking it out. Which didn’t take long, but had some interesting stuff such as a brief reflection from Mike Pejic on his recent first cap for England and some comment on Alan Hudson heading off on a tour with England under 23s. Yes, we had a good team in those days.

It may have started with Baker but there were a hatful of players who then didn’t do much to help things, ending with Bursik forgetting he has feet.

The player shoots, it's going wide but Bursik is naturally moving to his right, it hits a Stoke player, rebounds back, Bursik shifts to his left, sets himself as best he can and the player than hits a volley low, from about 9 yards out. This all happens in less than a second. A) there is no way you can save that with your foot B) a good keeper at this level does not save that He's got let less than a second to react to 2 different situations at close proximity. He will be disappointed I'm sure as he managed to get a hand to it, but it's no routine save.

If that was a top flight game, it would 100% be reported as a mistake in the papers, no question about it. A good keeper at this level will save that, an average to poor keeper in the league above would save it. Not saying Bursik is below average on the basis of this alone, but there has been a few where I’ve thought the same

What was our record when we played 4231 v 352? Someone put all last seasons formations up with outcomes as % 4231 was either the worst or very close to it. I was surprised too as it's my preference. Also think 352 was the best. I don't take too much notice as whatever they say the formation is it's played with a very negative, cautious, safety first bias.

To a man we were wank last season but yeah stats are everything aren't they 🙄 Playing a significant(can't remember how many exactly) number of games was a prerequisite of the stats that Tachyon provided, they were from all championship games not just last season. His saves to shots ratio is truly horrendous in the bottom 5% of about 200 championship keepers. Stats might not completely represent events but they're never that bloody out.I like his distribution and kicking a lot and wouldn't be happy with a good shot stopper who was line bound and has poor distribution and kicking like the Scots lad we're linked with but Bursik needs to get massively better at keeping the ball out of the net if he's going to make it at this level or higher.

I get stats but for Bursik they hold no relevance as he has not played consistently enough for them to count. There are some good keepers in the u21 group and he's still got the gloves so some people eminently more knowledgeable about keeping than you and tachyon and whoever else think he is okay.
