Positives from today: In Taylor we seem to have got another gem of a central defender. Laurent looked much sharper today, and showed more defensive awareness. Smallbone showed glimpses of what to come. I think he will be a great addition. Gayle got some minutes under his wings again. Campbell scored again, despite being shite before that. Hopefully it will give him a confidence boost. Most disappointing to me: Wilmot doesn't look comfortable at all on the left, and his decision making is a worry! Baker was really crap today and needs to up his game! Bursik still doesn't fill me with confidence. Totally agree with all of that. Have to add Tymon to the list, very very poor. Not too worried re Baker as we know what a good player he is. Have to say Clucas added a bit, no idea if he'll be with us come Millwall but at least looked interested. Clucas has been far from our worst player in preseason.

Absolutely aimless football for 90 minutes. We didn’t even look fit. I couldn’t pull one positive from that display. You know nowt about football then

For what it's worth. As a keeper I would be absolutely livid with my defence (FIVE of them at the back may I add) for their second goal. To allow a striker, 7 yards out, to have 2 free attempts on goal without a challenge being put in is inexcusable. The problem that gives Bursik then is that the player can go either side and he has to react very late or purely second guess where the player is going to put it. Then when a player puts a reasonably paced shot that close to him, its always going to be difficult to get down to with his hands and get anything meaningful on it. Take Ty's goal as a comparison, very similar situation (with regards to where he put it in respect to the keeper) but the keeper guessed and went the wrong way, but it was a "great finish" and not "shit goalkeeping" I'm not saying that there haven't been goals that Bursik should have saved, but today's goals weren't as clear cut as some are making out and more of the blame should be attributed to the defence. I get that but as a keeper you do your job then give the defence a bollocking. It's not just today, it's every game Oh, I know that mate, like I said, there are definitely goals he's conceded that he should have done better with. But today that was almost a penalty from 7 yards, he could have gone either way. He will be a very good goalkeeper, he is still VERY young for a keeper and he will improve with games. The question is, with the weakness of the rest of the squad, can he be afforded that this season? Bonham 100% isn't the answer and a new solid number 1 is needed

I'm fully of the opinion that pre-season results don't matter at all & it's all about minutes in the legs but having watched a few of our friendlies I am worried by the slow, unimaginative forward play & we need to sharpen up massively across the pitch. It's not just one or two players it feels like they're all lethargic apart from Taylor & Wilmot seems to be sharp despite his questionable decision making.

He's not, he's an appalling keeper. At least Bursik has potential and age on his side. I'd take Ben Foster or Begovic in a heartbeat and let Joe learn from them

You would say that, you're another one drowning in a sea of negativity. Please can you outline what exactly we have to be positive about bad on what we've seen this Pre season so far Ask me the same question after 10 league games mate and I'll answer. I haven't watched a single minute of pre-season as it means fuck all. Never has and never will mean anything.

I can’t help thinking that we’re starting to see how important Joe Allen was.
I know people on here think he’s not good enough to play for stoke at the moment and is the sole reason we’re not in the premier league anymore - but I always liked him and I think we’ll miss him greatly.
Let the abuse begin…

The positive is surely Campbell starting to look sharp again, that has seemingly gone under the radar and more so since the Gayle signing?
He's scored two absolute belters. Proper finishers goals.
If he hits top form, along with Gayle, we will have a really good season.

More the performances, set up and tactics than the result but it does matter. If we had looked exciting, adaptable, changeable and we could see what we were trying to do, I think I could take losing in Pre season, but we look dull, rigid, and slow and this (especially today) is a dress rehearsal for what we want to do this season, and it's an absolute shambles mate

A good goalkeeper sorts that mess out. A good goalkeeper needs confidence in a solid back line in front of him ..and vice versa. It's clear the centre halves don't like or trust Bursik one bit.

MON either needs to play someone behind the front 2 with wing backs or sack it off and play 4-5-1. If he sticks with this shite we're not going to score many.

You know nowt about football then What was positive about that performance mate? Smallbone Campbell (2nd half) Gayle Taylor Defensively we seemed all ove the place but 2nd half we looked to try and play some football and created 3 very, very good chances (Gayle, Tymon and Campbell).

Mixed feelings coming away from that game today.
On the plus side, it was an absolute joy to see my team play a few miles down the road from me.
On the down side, that first half was an abysmal performance. We looked like we hadn’t a clue what we were tying to do.
The second half was better, particularly after the introduction of the subs. You can see, if you look hard and possibly a bit wishfully, that there is something there.
But the bottom line is, I loved being at Tynecastle today watching the Mighty Potters with a good number of fellow Stokies.
I hope a trip north of the border becomes a regular part of our pre-season.

Shouldn't read too much into pre-season friendlies i know, but from what I've seen, the underwhelming signings and comments from elsewhere, 11/1 seem quite generous odds to go down, especially if we cling onto an underperforming manager for too long, as we so often do.
However, Bet365 has us as 7th favourites for promotion which I find astonishing. Based on what? Being in the Prem fairly recently and having a rich owner presumably. We've done nothing since being relegated.
Let's hope a few more signings drop and our preseason means absolutely nothing other than fitness. I was at the game where Dundee Utd beat us 4-1 in a preseason and we got promoted that year so here's hoping.

Double whammy. In behind Bursik should save it Goal Wank There's just too many like this with Bursik, isn't there? Although seems churlish to pick up on any one particular failing after watching the last 3 friendlies! There seems to be a lot where you automatically think ‘keeper should have done better there’. Maybe it’s me but when the ball is low and it’s close to him he cannot adjust in time. Doesn’t matter how good he could be, right now I don’t think he’s good enough to start. Still think a loan a league down is what he needs, while we bring in someone like foster / a proven keeper (not Bonham)
