Not a bad shout. Everyone’s a winner. Apart from Bordeaux of course but fuck em He’s a good midfielder and I think would do well in that league. Would depend if they needed a central midfielder and a whole host of things. But swapping one out of contract in a year player for another seems to be logical to me? Same with Afobe. I had high hopes for Etebo but he’s been terrible wherever he’s been, some players just do it to keep the cash rolling in and imagine he’s one of those. Afobe just isn’t very good is he, I don’t doubt his dedication to playing football but I thought he was a bad signing at the time, the circumstances made it obvious. An Allen replacement, sort out the keeper and get a half decent right sided full back/wing back and we’ll be in business. Personally I’ve quite like what I’ve seen from Maja but don’t think he’ll be the prolific type, needs one of those alongside him but there’s such a dearth of natural finishers in the game(especially ones we could attract) it’s going to be difficult. Perhaps Tezgel will come to the fore next pre season. Not sure where it leaves Campbell but nobody is expendable for us I don’t think. Needs a massive pre season.

I don’t necessarily think we need a “natural finisher”. We should focus our attentions on trying to get partnerships to work. If Brown is our main guy (or Campbell), then they both need someone who can win flick ons, bully a defender and be a nuisance. If Tymon is a left back in a four, then we need a left winger who prefers to cut inside, which will offer space. If Baker is the main man, we need a centre mid who is disciplined and can do the dirty work. Oh, and we need a goalie that the fans can just agree is good. 3-4 good players would do far more for this team than “a natural finisher”. It’s not like we create dozens of chances and just keep missing.

Maja and Campbell are both natural finishers.

If they felt he would make a difference they'd spaff the £1m - presumably he's not impressed them much Interesting the fan says he’s one of their better midfielders though. I still think there’s a deal to be had with the right club. Or he could just be one of our best midfielders. I’d certainly back him to add some much needed physicality to our midfield. Not my ideal pick as I’d prefer someone taller and more proficient in the air along with the physicality but I’d take him over Allen every time.

I think a right back has got to be one of the key signings, particularly if we're playing a 352.
Kane Wilson has just won L2 Player of the Season, is 22 and out of contract in the Summer. Should be just the type of player we go for

Putting primarily defensive players into the wide rolls in that formation makes it a very negative one.

Sounds like there'll be lots of competition. But would think we'd have a good chance as long as no parachute clubs offer him their starting role. Not many clubs that look as attractive as us, with our budget, would be offering him the clear No.1 role at RB/RWB.

Previous seasons I'd have said no chance but with our new recruitment strategy you'd hope that we'd be seriously looking at this lad. Someone email this to the club ASAP

My Bristol Rovers supporting neighbour is very complementary about Taylor and hopes they may get him next season on loan if they go up. However, he's gushing about Elliott Anderson, the young midfielder from Newcastle they have on loan. Says he's exceptional and destined for the very top. Worth a sniff?

Wilson's so promising that as a youth at West Brom he managed to impress TP despite being an attacking full back under six foot and younger than 28.

Scott Twine has to be on the list surely. Outstanding numbers in League 1 at MK Dons and also was highly rated at Swindon before that. Young, room to grow and if Powell moves on and can’t stay fit, we have another option.

Someone email this to the club ASAP Looks great going forward with the ball at his feet, but those defensive stats worry me. Wing back seems like the jack of all trades position. If you rank poorly as a defender in league 2, will you be doing well in the Championship? You’d imagine his attacking stats would be less impressive in the jump up the divisions as well. Being so young is obviously a benefit, but would it mean we would need a stop gap there while he matures?

We need two to be honest anyway if Smith leaves, look at the way Tymon has been flogged to death down the left this season. Re his defensive stats, I imagine Tymon’s would’ve been close to fucking awful before this season but he’s improving rapidly.

Is there an argument that if you're playing a 3-5-2/3-4-3 that's going to achieve anything, you just accept that your wing backs' primary function is attacking and make sure your back three and midfield has the tools to cover for them?

He's a very attacking right back that has 3 goals and 14 assists this season. He plays wing back alot of the time for Forest Green currently Right wing back is a problem for us but I thought we had high hopes for Sparrow in that position and are developing him to be able to play there so do we need another young player blocking the route for one of our own? Much though I thought Smith would leave I do wonder if his recent return to the team indicates that talks have been held and we are offering a short term contract while we see how Sparrow progresses.

Out most important priority must be a new manager , look at Forest , that’s what happens when you get a decent one in instead the inept one we have

It's one of the most important roles in the team and I don't think Sparrow has played one minute of first team league football this term, which doesn't suggest to me he's that high up in the thinking. Great if he gets opportunities but we can't hang our hat on him entirely yet surely?

My comment on this was based on MON’s interview a couple of games ago, where he (or Holden) stated that’s where they saw Sparrow’s future at the club. It wouldn’t shock me if we either: a) kept Smith for another season, b) forced Wilmot to play a position that he isn’t best suited to, or c) brought in someone like Byrne for a season or two while Sparrow progresses. At some point, we have to start looking at continuity and who we can bring in to provide our youngsters opportunity to develop without getting in their way for too long (assuming we think any of them are worth it).

No nor would I want to but I think either we'll keep Smith short term or look for a 25-28 year old who won't be blocking the route to the first team for Sparrow who has been name checked a couple of times recently as a young player the management want to introduce sooner rather than later.

There's no proof Sparrow is remotely up to the level though, is there?
When you're talking about a player we'd need to operate at the top-end of the Championship, the standard is so high.
I don't think he'll be a factor in any decision-making. At the moment, he's just a young midfielder who they've played at RWB 5 or 6 times in the u23s and has been on the bench once.
And I think Smith is the one player we can almost be certain will be off. He just isn't up to it and his is the position we can make the most significant leap forward in
