Why should we beat Denmark easily at home? They'd only lost about three times in the last few years, twice to Belgium and the freak loss to Finland when Eriksen collapsed. They'd also won on their last trip to Wembley. Plus I seem to recall the usual suspects assuming we'd lose to Germany. Look at Germany's record and look at ours. 82 and 86 they reached world cup finals with seemingly average sides. They won Euro 96 with a severely depleted team. Their standard performance is semi final. As soon as we beat them the belittlers were out saying it wasn't a great Germany side. It's Germany, they don't have to be great. And if we hadn't beaten them you know they'd have got to the final. But do we enjoy it? Do we fuck. It's a load of whining whinging history rewriting crap. To be honest we were a poor side. Not so much the talent but the application as we pondered an puffed and made no effort whatsoever. We only seemed to come to life in spurts however if Muller had scored that goal I reckon we would have beaten England as the momentum was starting to shift during the game. Jogi's time was up and the players knew it so didn't realise their application nor talent. Hansi Flick has come back in and there is a definite change in the air. We are playing much quicker and moving the ball more in our counter attacking, with some real talent coming through, if we had a real finisher (Klose style) we would be a real threat.... unfortunately Werner just seems to be struggling again and again.

I would say we have a decent chance but are more of a dark horse than an outright contender.

Here's another metric that means f all: Players' Total Market Value: England: 1,017m USA: 190m Wales: 129m Iran: 69m can't help but laugh at the England number. Premier League inflation helps a bit Get the point you're trying to make but can you define "players" ? www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vereins-statistik/wertvollstenationalmannschaften/marktwertetopIt looks like they are using the rosters of the most recent call-ups to the national teams. So it's likely that the US and Iran are undervalued here since they are playing friendlies and don't have all their best players with them whereas England and Wales are playing competitive matches. And wasn't really trying to make a point, just thought it was honestly interesting.

Now the calendar's flipped over to September, and everything's feeling a bit more autumnal, just noticed the squad has got to be named in 6 weeks.
And it's pretty hard to pick, with Shaw, Maguire and Chilwell not getting a game, Mings looking poor, Coady playing for a struggling team and White being used out of position at full-back
Is Dier good enough to start? Pickford still No.1? Is Harvey Elliott looking a good shout? Rashford still looks out of sorts. Sancho improving a bit. Is it worth picking Fabio Carvalho and keeping him away from Portugal?
At least they can pick 26 to give a bit more wiggle room.
GK Aaron Ramsdale 1/20 Jordan Pickford 1/20 Nick Pope 1/2 Dean Henderson 11/8 Sam Johnstone 9/1 Jack Butland 16/1 Joe Hart 16/1
CB Harry Maguire 1/10 John Stones 1/10 Ben White 4/9 Eric Dier 4/7 Fikayo Tomori 5/4 Conor Coady 6/4 Marc Guehi 11/4 Joe Gomez 3/1 Tyrone Mings 11/2 Chris Smalling 6/1 Dan Burn 13/2 Max Kilman 10/1 Ezri Konsa 12/1 James Tarkowski 16/1 Trevoh Chalobah 16/1 Ben Godfrey 18/1 Adam Webster 22/1 Michael Keane 22/1 Lewis Dunk 25/1 Rob Holding 25/1
RB Trent Alexander-Arnold 1/10 Reece James 1/8 Kyle Walker 1/7 Kieran Trippier 8/15 James Justin 5/2 Kyle Walker-Peters 8/1 Djed Spence 25/1 Aaron Wan Bissaka 25/1
LB Luke Shaw 1/3 Ben Chilwell 4/9 Ryan Sessegnon 4/1 Tyrick Mitchell 7/1 Aaron Cresswell 20/1 Luke Thomas 20/1 Matt Targett 20/1 Rico Henry 20/1
MID Declan Rice 1/20 Jude Bellingham 1/20 Kalvin Phillips 1/6 Jordan Henderson 1/4 Conor Gallagher 2/1 Harvey Elliott 2/1 James Ward-Prowse 9/4 James Maddison 5/2 Jacob Ramsey 16/1 Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall 20/1 Joe Willock 25/1
ATT Bukayo Saka 1/20 Mason Mount 1/20 Phil Foden 1/20 Jack Grealish 1/16 Raheem Sterling 1/12 Jadon Sancho 4/6 Jarrod Bowen 8/11 Marcus Rashford 5/6 Anthony Gordon 5/1 Jack Harrison 5/1 Eberechi Eze 6/1 Emile Smith-Rowe 8/1 Harvey Barnes 8/1 Jesse Lingard 8/1 Ruben Loftus-Cheek 10/1 Morgan Gibbs-White 20/1 Curtis Jones 33/1 Cole Palmer 33/1 Fabio Carvalho 33/1 Keane Lewis-Potter 66/1
STR Harry Kane 1/20 Tammy Abraham 4/6 Dominic Calvert-Lewin 2/1 Callum Wilson 5/2 Ivan Toney 5/1 Ollie Watkins 5/1 Patrick Bamford 6/1 Eddie Nketiah 12/1 Danny Welbeck 14/1 Danny Ings 18/1 Jamie Vardy 25/1 Dominic Solanke 33/1 Cameron Archer 50/1 Liam Delap 66/1

I wouldn't want to be putting my life savings on any of the right backs at those prices.
Southgate will probably find a way of taking all of them (plus Trippier, who he seems to love) at the expense of another area of the team. Can you see any real outsiders popping up in the squad? (Butland at 16/1 😂😂😂) Toney a bit of a wildcard at 5/1 maybe?

Can't help but feel alot of the England squad has now peaked. Huge question marks at LB with Shaw and Chilwell not playing. Centre back you could say the same.
Then even in midfield, pretty sure Phillips has barely featured for Leeds? Rice not had the best start to the season either etc..
Still alot of good internationals out there but can't help but feel Southgate may need to do a bit of a rebuild.

Potter looked a bit of a shoo-in for next manager. No chance now with a long-term highly-paid contract at Chelsea Can't see Southgate sticking around much longer, and will be off for sure if they flop at the World Cup. Who's next in line now? Can't see Howe leaving Newcastle either. m.skybet.com/football/manager-specials/event/29731199Graham Potter 2/1 Eddie Howe 3/1 Mauricio Pochettino 5/1 Steve Cooper 6/1 Arsene Wenger 12/1 Brendan Rodgers 16/1 Lee Carsley 16/1 Steven Gerrard 18/1 Frank Lampard 20/1 Wayne Rooney 20/1 Pep Guardiola 25/1 Scott Parker 25/1 Sean Dyche 25/1 Sarina Wiegman 28/1 Steve Holland 28/1 Chris Wilder 33/1 Dean Smith 33/1 Jose Mourinho 33/1 Marcelo Bielsa 50/1 Emma Hayes 66/1 Gary Neville 80/1 Phil Neville 80/1 Alan Shearer 100/1 Jody Morris 100/1 David Beckham 150/1 Aidy Boothroyd 200/1 Michael Owen 200/1 Sam Allardyce 200/1

What's everyone's thoughts on who will make the 26 man squad?
I'm going with:
GK: Pickford, Pope, Ramsdale
Def: Stones, Maguire, Walker, James, Trippier, Chilwell, Shaw, White.
Mid: Rice, Phillips, Henderson, Gallagher, Ward-Prowse, Bellingham
Fwd: Kane, Toney, Abraham, Sterling, Foden, Grealish, Saka, Rashford, Sancho
I reckon Maguire, Shaw and Henderson will be twitchy over their places on the plane but I can't see Southgate leaving them out. Think Ivan Toney's performance over-the-counter past 18 months earn him a wildcard pick plus we've not got many strikers

Not sure about Ward-Prowse. It's looking good for Toney as No.3 striker now though Bellingham probably a shoo-in. And Mount Eric Dier looking a good bet too maybe? Sancho/Rashford chances improving too

m.skybet.com/football/england-specials/event/27915508Alexander-Arnold still 1/10 which seems a bit short to say the least. Southgate doesn't seem a fan and if Liverpool's form continues to wobble, he won't need much of an excuse to leave him out if he's taking Walker, James and Trippier

Walker and James as cover both centre back and RB/RWB, pace at the back is useful to cover Maguire and Stones. Trippier can play LB/LWB as well. I don't TAA was ever going unless he produced blistering form this season which is clearly not happening

Wonder if they'd really kick Ecuador out at this stage? They may well kick Ecuador out and replace them with Chile because what they did was quite serious. Apparently, the player entered Ecuador illegally using a false passport with expressed intent of playing football and was financed by an Ecuadorian businessman. The Ecuador Football Federation knew about the crime and covered it up.

Wonder if they'd really kick Ecuador out at this stage? Ecuador have scoured his ancestry and found that his great grandmother was actually an Ecuadorean Hairless Kombai Dog. FIFA say this allows him to represent Ecuador under a new rule passed just a few days ago following a secret communique (thick brown envelope) with Ecuadorean FA.
