Age and injury has taken its toll on Powell. Its a huge gamble retaining him for another season. Suspect MON still has plans to shape the squad with some new players that he really wants. Do not be too surprised if up to a dozen players leave. He's only just turned 28. He played 92 games over 3 seasons for Wigan (an average of 30 games a season). He's played 85 games for us over 3 seasons despite playing only 18 games this term due in no small part to breaking his leg and the niggles that inevitably follow a long term injury. So he played an average of 34 games per season for his first two seasons with us despite being 'dropped' by mad Nath. All in all that isn't anywhere near as bad as some make out especially considering he is clearly targeted by opposition teams. His goal return is roughly 1 in 3 so if we can get 30 odd games out of him that's about 10 a season. Not to be sniffed at for an attacking mid. In summary we should do everything we can to extend his contract. No chance will we replace him with anyone as good. You must be new here, I’ll lay down the rules. No talking sense, we don’t do that and it’s not appreciated.

Some kind of big sandwich I think. Possibly Campbell's pre match meal Bacon and tomato sandwich. We wanted him to eat more healthily but he wouldn't lettuce!

I know many of our fans enjoy Powell winding up his opponents, but I do wonder if maybe he left all of that out for a season, and just concentrated on playing football instead, whether he might get nobbled by the opposition players a bit less?

Talented creative players get the shit kicked out of them regardless.

It's the chicken & the egg. Does he wind them up then they kick him or vice versa? I think they kick him because he is our biggest and often only threat.

I think from a comment by a certain poster we can assume he'll be with us next season . Good news.

I'm a Powell fan and will be delighted if he's with us for next season. But to listen to some on here they're on about him like hes the second coming. You'd think we were beating the prem teams back with a stick to keep him 🤣

You'd think we were beating the prem teams back with a stick to keep him 🤣 People used to say the same thing about Fuller on here. ‘If he’s so good, why aren’t Prem teams knocking down our door?’. It’s entirely irrelevant, he was supremely important to us and we were generally shit without him. Powell is no Ric but to a lesser extent it’s the same principle. He’s our talisman and if there’s anyone we need to hold onto it’s him.

I'd sell Powell and keep Sawyers any day of the week. Not even a tough call. Powell, for mine, slows our attack immeasurably.

Again, what have you seen about our attacks in his absence that's impressed you? Does the regular supply of goals from Powell not rather suggest he might be worth hanging on to?

Unfortunately there's always been a fairly big proportion of Stoke fans who wouldn't know a talented player if they walked up and smacked them in the face.
Nick Powell is just another in a long line of greatly underappreciated players by certain sections of our fan base.
If we are going to be promoted from the Premier League in the next 2-3 years, Nick Powell will play a leading role.

If you are not just a wind up merchant then apologies. But also what have you been watching this season in games without Powell? We've generally been terrible creatively. I really believe if he hadn't got injured we'd have secured at least an extra 6 points and maybe more, even enough to have something to play for next Saturday.

We need to give Powell an extension! If we are going to challenge for promotion, we can't let our best players go.

If we are going to be promoted from the Premier League in the next 2-3 years, Nick Powell will play a leading role. We’ll always have an element of support who complain, no matter what. Fuller, Nzonzi, Arnautovic all came in for criticism for being ‘lazy’ despite what they brought to the team. Some people just have it in their nature to be negative. I wouldn’t say it’s a big proportion, people who think like this tend to be in the minority.

Powell is a decent player at this level. I think some massively over rate him, but he’s certainly worth keeping hold of if we can afford to do so. If we can’t then I’d be in favour of Sawyers, or rekindling our previous interest in Morgan Gibbs White.

There are other players out there capable of doing what he does.

There are other players out there capable of doing what he does. If we can find one, great. Until then he's the first name on the team sheet. We're generally a worse side without him. Jordan Thompson is 'a decent player at this level'. Powell is an excellent player at this level. If you actually look at his contribution since he's been in the team I think you're underrating him.

This is Powell who's too old and injury prone at 28 and our player versus Sawyers who's nearly 31 and injury prone and not even our player? Yeah right. Terrible bait by the way even though you've hooked me.
