needs sorting quickly one way or another now its clear we are not going up this year (ahem) and will illustrate our ambitions. What we have to pay Powell (to extend his contract, or keep him for only 1 year) will have a knock on effect to all our other business this off season. It is all sorted, it's been sorted for months.

Or Is it new and longer (which would be fantastic)

Worrying that the sentinel went with the line ‘out of contract at the end of the season’ a few days ago. Changing their tune from the optional contract extension quotes that was being banded about earlier on in season.

Give him the world. Our best player. Mental that there was ever a debate about it.

Worrying that the sentinel went with the line ‘out of contract at the end of the season’ a few days ago. Changing their tune from the optional contract extension quotes that was being banded about earlier on in season. Since when did the Sentinel know anything? Like other stories they run they regurgitate what is being written elsewhere in the media without questioning. They interview MON before and after a match and then the rest of their stories for the week are using parts of those press conferences to write stories around. Both MON and Powell himself have intimated that he'll be here next season.

It'd be interesting to see at what level he'd end up this summer if he did leave. I did hear it wasn't an absolute slam-dunk that he'd be staying, but hopefully it'll be sorted. Not sure any Prem clubs would come in for him, but there could be interest from parachute clubs. Just depends how much he wants to stay in the north west as that seems important to him and we're as good as it gets commute-wise Just trying to think of easily-commutable teams who could offer him good wages. Can't see many options, so hopefully we'll be ok WBA maybe, but they're linked with John Swift. Sheff Utd? Everton if they want a cheap, top-end Champo player after they lose 25 players ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/0m0lbCuTEBzaRn6f8QaM.gif)

Powell for me, slows our play down at times if that is possible, he takes too many touches, when quick incisive passes are required. Against teams who sit deep, it makes it even more difficult to break them down.

When he got injured, our form against the teams below us took a nosedive.

He certainly wasn`t slowing the play down when he came on yday,he was the only incisive Stoke player on view,no wonder the opposition always try to nobble him

You need more of the likes of Powell with his vision and ability to thread balls through the eye of a needle to break those kind of teams down. The teams that come at you not so much. It's pace that's vital against them and the long diagonal (Souttar) balls to set up quick counters.

Age and injury has taken its toll on Powell. Its a huge gamble retaining him for another season. Suspect MON still has plans to shape the squad with some new players that he really wants. Do not be too surprised if up to a dozen players leave.

Interesting you’d retain Sawyers for another year who’s been a bit ‘meh’ for us but you’d get rid of Powell our best player by a country mile, without a backward glance.

Playing him Saturday reassured me that he’s staying, despite some fans wishing him gone.

Do not be too surprised if up to a dozen players leave. He went 4-5 years with barely an injury before this season, and was as fit as he'd ever been until the first injury. The best years of Powell's career are more likely ahead of him than behind him.

Do not be too surprised if up to a dozen players leave. He's only just turned 28. He played 92 games over 3 seasons for Wigan (an average of 30 games a season). He's played 85 games for us over 3 seasons despite playing only 18 games this term due in no small part to breaking his leg and the niggles that inevitably follow a long term injury. So he played an average of 34 games per season for his first two seasons with us despite being 'dropped' by mad Nath. All in all that isn't anywhere near as bad as some make out especially considering he is clearly targeted by opposition teams. His goal return is roughly 1 in 3 so if we can get 30 odd games out of him that's about 10 a season. Not to be sniffed at for an attacking mid. In summary we should do everything we can to extend his contract. No chance will we replace him with anyone as good.

That'll be the Sawyers who's 31 in November, scored 2 goals from 24 games this season and missed a large part of the season through injury. You really couldn't make it up.
