He just doesn't look confident in the stability of his left leg at all hence the question. He's not only a fair way away from fitness but he's also mentally some way away from being confident in his body I'd say. It's still an injury that can end careers, and a lot of that is down to the mental side of recovery. Playing at that level, it only takes a player to be slightly more hesitant or restricted in their movement and they look nowhere near the standard required.

He's nowhere near fit enough Has to be taken out of the starting XI immediately until he can get himself in proper condition to last more than 15 minutes. I don't care how many goals and assists he got before he got injured- he looks fucked after a few minutes. Playing him excessively whilst he's not fit enough also risks another serious injury which would be a very bad situation for both player and club.

Absolute dog water today. On the last two weeks showings, I would snap someone’s hand off for 5m

Unfortunately he look's no where near. He's no more than a passenger. Its sad to see to be honest. He definitely does not want to engage in any physical confrontation at all. As others have said his lack of tracking back for their first goal was poor. Such a shame he was fantastic before he got injured.

They had much more joy down the left than the right and Ince did a good job of tracking back down the right. If you notice that something on your side is being exploited time and again, surely it is your responsibility to go back there and support them. Clucas should have been supporting as well, but they still had 3 players over there. A 3 on 3 would have shut that attack down completely.

However the player was no more than five yards away and Id expect him to at least make the effort to win the ball. He was slow jogging back. I have seen Mane and Salah who play in the best front three in the league do exactly that.

Campbell more than any other player on the pitch today has plenty of credit in the bank for me.
Keep playing him and he’ll come good, besides who takes his place, Brown, Surrige??!?

I would pick Wilmott over Clucas CM, yes. Clucas is just turning up to collect his pay, he should be embarrased at how much he contributes, I'd go as far as drop him into the u23's to make a point I don’t know if Wilmot would be good in midfield, but I do absolutely despise Clucas as a footballer. He’s just pointless. Dropping him to the U23s wouldn’t be fair to them, and the academy shouldn’t be a punishment as I believe it sends the wrong message to the academy players. Just keep him on the bench or leave him out the squad. As this thread is about Campbell, I think the first goal was (almost) entirely on him. He was 15 yards behind on their play, which wasn’t the fastest of plays. It wasn’t the first time that half that was the case. It was also an issue for him last season, but he countered it by being so effective off the ball. By not tracking back, we were left so open on that side and their crosser had no pressure for the delivery. He seemed to approach today differently than last season. Last year he seemed to play a lot closer to Fletcher. Today he stood on the wing and isolated himself and Fletcher. I'm beginning to think he believes his own hype and is getting a bit too comfortable. Either that or it's a case of just being a really awful team that makes him look crap aswell. Our strikers have to fashion chances for themselves, it's shit. Take me back to the days of a 442 with 2 pacy widemen and 2 strikers feeding off service.... We can't even go 442 because our midfield is too weak, laughable, yet we have Fletcher and Campbell who could work as a pair and a pace merchant on the left

He had issues with his fitness when he first broke through the team and then managed to improve it massively.
Just seems like he’s managed to lose so much of his fitness improvements due to his injury.

He looks hesitant and his play is lacking the required intensity. This I said to my mate today it’s like he’s thinking what he’s going to do when he gets the ball rather than instinctively playing as he was before injury. I am afraid we won’t see the best of him again until next season.

Regardless of positions and tactics, every player is responsible for doing the basics which is to spot danger and track back when you are the nearest player to it.

Deserves to be dropped, like so many again... And yet again we have absolutely no one who could replace him that would offer anything more. That's why we are heading down the league once again. We basically have 11 players who can't always be fit and always on form, any injuries or loss in form and we are fucked.

In today's game no one gets the Get Out of Jail Free card of it not being his job. Just as full backs are expected to attack attackers have to get back and defend. Even Fletcher almost 15 years Campbell's senior gets back to help when he sees a problem. I understand the mental block Tyrese will have at the moment but just his presence would have helped Wilmot.

To get over the mental block he will have at the moment he has got to play as much as possible to prove to himself that his body will stand up to it.. The fastest he ran without the ball today was to get off the pitch when substituted.

Brown and Fletcher are much more effective than either of those two plus campbell. They had us in contention now we’re floating like a lead ballooon. He’s not ready to play 60 min let alone 90 - slow, fat and unfit.

The lad isn’t yet totally fit. Physically the knee might be fully repaired but recovery is a more complex issue than just that. It appears to me that he is over thinking things when he has the ball and consequently his decision making suffers. Once he has his confidence, he will trust his instincts more and his form will improve.

I forgot the experts in the medical team can see deep inside his body mind link .. so after they've used their UFAP scanner (Uncertain Future Assessment and Prognostications tool ) it's then simple to know exactly where his head is at and factor out the possible effects of fatigue in-game. Thanks, once again, for putting me straight.

Agree about Campbell’s sharpness but the likes of Doughty and Surridge desperately need 90 minutes……

I always thought the best way of overcoming your fears were to face them rather than hiding from them. The only way barring injury that Campbell should be 'rested' is if (as was the case on Monday) he is too much of a burden for the team to carry. At the moment it is a short term problem which hopefully will lead to a long term gain. He will not get fit or overcome his mental block by being rested. The problem at the moment is that unlike pre-injury he is not a goal threat to justify his presence in the team on that alone. Can you name one modern day footballer who is not expected to track back and help out the defence?

Hes an out and out striker so why would you want him tracking back, defending and out wide. Play the ball into him near the box , on the last defender, he twists and turns and shoots like a greedy 20 goal striker should. Totally obvious that the oppo could exploit our weakness asking him to play wide when not 100% yet, not just obvious, stupid.
