A loan with an agreed fee to buy at the end of the season perhaps? Chelsea won't give him away next year!

The talk of him playing at DM last season is good because before that he was just the same as every other CM we have.
But would he drop Allen for him? Seems a stretch.

Seems a stretch. he'll want cover/competition I think we are 1 midfielder short, assuming Porter &/or Sparrow not being promoted to the first team would want another in there was impressed with Ali McCann last night although they were only playing an out of sorts Galatasary side no idea how much McCann would costs, presume not very much & low wages, be a cheaper deal than Baker, younger & potentially a better player too

And he's not going to drop Allen. Unless he does want to use Vrancic sparingly (which I think he should).

A loan with an agreed fee to buy at the end of the season perhaps? Chelsea won't give him away next year! If he is out of contract next summer why would we (or any club) pay Chelsea a fee to buy him? Of course, I suppose we could agree now to pay them a second instalment of a loan fee if we did decide to sign him next summer.

I don't think it is a question of dropping players, or providing cover.
There are 46 league matches, plus Cup matches and there is the issues of injury, illness, tiredness, suspensions, even pinging!, etc.
Many managers now believe in rotating players to keep them fresh and "hungry".
To do that you need a young squad (old players are slow to recover) and strength in depth. The only thing we have had is depth in old players.
MON has introduced young players and bought young with the odd exception. You never know how young players are going to turn out (apart from the exceptional ones like Collins) so some will make the grade (like Souttar) and some will have to be moved on (like Cousins).
My reservation with Baker is he is 26 so I doubt he will improve. Whether he is good enough time will tell if we sign him, but on reflection he looks better than Cousins to me and could be a useful asset to use when older players are in need of rest, etc.
Game management requires action depending on circumstance. If losing you need extra attackers on, but if winning you need an extra defensive MF to secure the win, which is where he could be an ideal asset judging by the video.

You do but he's not shown many signs of doing that even when he had the players to do it with. And all the players in midfield are very samey. If Allen is rotated then yeah to a degree it makes sense but I just can't see that happening.

Remember folks, Joe Allen is the captain. He will play when available. usually how it works Also you could write a list pre game of those on here who will be straight on their keypads the moment he makes his first mis-placed pass

Not to shoot this down, because I haven't watched him much but when he's been on loan domestically he's not played more than 20 games - is this down to injuries or just not being picked? Sheff Wed - 4 apps MK Dons - 12 Boro - 12 Leeds - 11 Reading - 19 Recent season looks better? 2019–2020 → Fortuna Düsseldorf (loan) 8 (0) 2020–2021 → Trabzonspor (loan) 34 (2)

Allen has got to be the most creative player that Stoke have, the amount of free kick he creates for the opposition around our penalty area , well it’s like he has been touched by god ! He’s reckless, indisciplined and a liability.

Andy Rinomhota in the Reading team today. He’d be my top choice for a CDM. Think he’s the best in the Championship.

Worried he's going to take your place in the squad? Very. Just adds to the risk/fatigue and all that bullshit. An unnecessary hinderance.
