Obviously good news, but he was contracted until 2024 anyway, wasn't he?
So just another 12 months and a wage increase.
Still, thumbs up!

So everyone wins

Wonder if there had been some interest in him to make us put this in front of him? Or if he's just been that good they know they want him for as long as possible, also pushing his value up?
Either way, great news. Will play a massive part if we are to actually get somewhere.

Purely speculation on my behalf though. There must be something in it for him (as well as a wage increase) is my thinking. It's win win.

You have to think we’ve done this to stave off any interest in him. His form was pretty nuts when you think about it. If he was till 2024 already another year might have been better (4 not 3) but either way, we’ve pushed his value up and potentially earned off any suitors at the same time.

Wonder if that reaffirming of commitment between the club and Baker points to Joe Allen leaving and Baker being made captain he would be perfect, then build a team around him and Souttar

That's it tbh Wouldn't have thought we'd get Archer anyway - but he doesn't fit as this "bigger striker" we're allegedly looking for, does he? He's not even 6ft and is another lively type, not a big one who'd lead the line or complement Campbell/Brown.

Cameron Archer would be great, hopefully the existing connections and goodwill following the reasonable P.Bidace loan success will put us in as good a position as anyone else, if not better you'd hope

Wouldn’t be surprised if he had a fairly low release clause or even agreement he’d be allowed to join any prem club that came in for him. It would be very unambitious for a player of his age and pedigree stepping down not to secure himself an easy exit if a chance to get back came up. It’s probably still there but at an increased price. You want ambitious players and not allowing them to fulfill them at the right price is bad policy anyway.

Probably depends on if we're going to play a back 4. if so, we definitely need someone who can play up on his own, down the middle. I can't see MON thinking Brown can do that regularly. Although, in a front 3, Campbell and Brown can't both play on the right, so who knows? Could Brown play on the left? In a front 2, I think either Brown/Campbell need someone to play off, and an Archer-type would probably be another who couldn't play with either of the other 2 in a partnership.

Yeah I think both Brown and Campbell are both best on the right tbh and I think the manager does too. Either can be used up front. If you're using a 433 or 343 then one of them are going to be on the right. Hopefully a more rounded player up front and possibly one on the left (he's used Campbell there sporadically but regularly enough). I think 2 strikers or 1 target man and 1 forward that can play across the line is important imo.

Sets a good precedent to other players of his ilk at the ‘glamour’ clubs. If he can come here and kick start a faltering career at an organisation that has some ambition we may be able to pick up one or two more championship level ‘gems’. Good news all round.
