All wars are pointless and no one ever wins. Abolish all armies and destroy all weapons.

All wars are pointless and no one ever wins. Abolish all armies and destroy all weapons. Don't quite agree with your thoughts here. Alot of wars are needless or unnecessary I accept that but, but certainly not all. The Falklands War was a battle well worthwhile fighting to guarantee The Falklands remained part of British sovereignty & despite heavy losses was a successful battle. & it could be argued the 2x World Wars were just & necessary to prevent Hitlers Germany ruling the World. Again ending in victory which halted Germanies occupation of countries it had no right to. The 1991 Gulf War to liberate Kuwait could also be deemed just & successful.

Kind of hoping that this is all part of long term ploy to get the Taliban out of hiding and to spread their numbers across major cities.
Next step would be to cut their communications and launch a coordinated assassination of Taliban members by hit squads and military groups concealed within each city.
Then close the border to Pakistan, destroy the opium trade, give the entire country back to the people and job done.
Wishful thinking.

If only mate , Iβm sure that us and yanks have brokered a deal with them where you can have your country back as long as there are not any more terrorist attacks on U.K. or USA soil , just seems crazy that after 20 years we are pulling out with trillions spent and all those deaths for what purpose

My Dad is currently in Kabul, spoke to him a couple of days ago and he was hoping to get a flight out of there before the end of August. How quickly things are escalating I hope he manages to get one pretty quickly.
Having spent 7 months in Afghanistan myself, working alongside the ANA to prepare them for the withdrawal of Western troops itβs a pretty numb feeling watching whatβs happening over there now.
The feeling I had after finishing my tour over there was that this kind of thing would happen once the Afghan people were left to fend for themselves. Itβs such a complex country and itβs army simply isnβt motivated enough to stand up to the Taliban.

Spare a thought for Afghan women at this point in time. We are about to see Islamism and the concept of a caliphate in all its glory. In other words - Lots of blood, rape, oppression, intolerance and ultimately mass genocide.

Parliament to be recalled.
What is there to discuss, only the aftermath.
I don't think the Government have explained to the public the enormity of this defeat.

It is a catastrophe which is going to lead to an enormous humanitarian crisis and a heightened risk of international terrorism. We've had far to many armchair generals (even on this board) bemoaning why we still have troops in the Middle East. To see them rounding on Biden now is the height of hypocrisy, but they are now at least on the right page. It has taken Kabul to be entered before our own Parliament has been recalled wity reports that the Government weren't 'keen'. The whole thing is a shambles.

Not sure I have seen the comments you claim but not sure how its hypocrisy, Afghanistan is not the middle east and there was some justification for taking action there, Iraq which is in the middle east is a different story.....

They need to sort their own shit out its as simple as that but unfortunately they have no desire for the fight, 20yrs of support and the first time they need to stand on their own two feet and for the people to be counted nothing but capitulation.

Ultimately that is the solution unless they want to go back to living in the 10th century or whatever, however they were severly let down air and missle support just disappeared overnight, corruption is so rife many of the soldiers dont receive pay so its no surprise they just gave up.

I'm not sure I've seen many taliban flying and bombing their way to domination they've walked in. It's not missile and air support they need it's the will to want change. As for corruption again its down to the people to demand and make changes.

Was it a mistake to ever think they were ready to move from a Stone Age satrapy to a liberal democracy run by someone like Nick Clegg?
