The Black Phone A seriously, scary, spooky film. A creepy guy is abducting kids and locking them up in a basement. Go see. 9/10 Someone should definatly check the laundry room. Maybe Musik’s been onto something all along.

About to watch this ...just getting the mini rolls out of the fridge. My Mum claims she saw the Banshee as a kid, I kept telling her was probably just a shouty woman on the way home from the local pub. She wouldn't have it

Giving that "Big Short" a go later. Someone on here (forget who it was) mentioned it yesterday, looks good.

Brightburn The premise is- what if Superman had come to Earth, been raised by humans but became a psychopath? Not bad, some gory kills Watched this tonight. Very good. 8/10 Thanks for the recommendation 👍

Watched the Gray Man on Netflix last night.
It was ok. Tons of action, but it lacked something. Maybe it was the big screen.
I’ll give it 6/10

Saw Elvis, as others have stated on here: I’m not a fan of his music but loved the story. Thought Baz (director) made too much of Elvis’s connection with black music, I really like Soul and jazz but never really saw Elvis’s music in that vein? (Spandau Ballet early stuff very jazz funk flavoured, Simply Red & George Michael too but not really Elvis whom I would say was more country, rock ‘n roll with the occasional journey into blues & gospel …. Fair enough. The film is definitely on a par with Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody so a solid 8/10 or - if you’re a fan - 9/10. Parallels with Michael Jackson with his ‘personal doctor’ injecting him with uppers pre-gig then downers to help him sleep. Thought Tom Hanks might have made a better job with colonel Parker’s Dutch accent, sounded sort of Austrian/German IMO. Steve McLaren did a better Dutch accent! 🤣🤣

watched 'thirteen'. The true story of the thai cave rescue, with Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell and some others. It does well in relaying the claustrobia throughout the film. I found myself holding my breath a few times.

Elvis came along when TV was taking off in the US, and TV bosses didn't want to put black musicians on TV. Elvis was the perfect poster boy. Elvis himself credited black musicians as his influence, and a lot of his biggest hits (especially his earliest) were covers of musicians like Otis Blackwell and Big Mama Thornton. Little Richard and Chuck Berry have a stronger claim as the "King of Rock 'n' Roll" than Elvis. Not forgetting female musicians like Mama Thornton and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. I do like Elvis, but credit where credit's due.

Am sure part of Elvis’s success was down to Mainstream America was not prepared to celebrate black music in the 50’s, also it’s well catalogued that he …..erm ….. borrowed some songs from blues performers, but the point I’m making is that he altered the pace, rhythm & style of those numbers so they didn’t really sound like the originals and moved more into the country, rock ‘n roll, neoskiffle genres IMO

Good film all round though ….. there’s been some cracking music bio movies, must be a bit tricky making one when the subject is still alive (eg Elton John Rocketman) One irony is that Prince was tipped to star in a movie bio about Jimi Hendrix but of course now they’ll be looking at who could play Prince, also surprised no-ones come up with a blockbuster covering either John Lennon or Michael Jackson although there must be various legal wrangles attached to the latter due to various accusations.

An oldie but watched 'Paper Moon' other night for the first time in years. What a great film. I think Tatum O'Neal is still the youngest Oscar winner or maybe gal in The Pianist, not sure. One for Google

Saw ‘where the crawdads sing’ excellent 9/10, I think the author had a difficult early life where she felt abandoned and she wanted to convey some of that in the lead character although the plot is a tad over-exaggerated (eg first her mother leaves - abused - then sisters then brother leaving her with crazy dad and eventually HE leaves her living in her own in a swamp shack in the Deep South ….. as yer do!!) Excellent performance from Daisy Edgar Jones - played lead in the Irish drama, Normal People - and there’s a very satisfying end to the story. Poignant, gripping but in a fairly gentle manner and filmed almost like a retro movie from the 50’s/60’s, actually most of the story set in the 60’s so that figures!
