Struggling to see why footballers now would give a shit about the Dortmund Champions League side of 96/97?

To be fair, I think it’s admirable (but foolish) when players do it. More than anything, you have to look after your career. If you are like Chester was at Villa, where a promotion would mean the world, that’s one thing, but if you don’t think that staving off a relegation will be the highlight of your career, then you decide to look after your health. In my opinion, he made the right decision. I don’t think you can argue that he made the right choice. I mean, stay at stoke in the second teir or bog off to PSG and Bayern for Champions League 😊 I still find it incredible however that a player who seemed nothing special here ends up where he has Must have a bloody good agent Think we would have been a good player for us in a different season. He arrived at exactly the wrong time. Throwing him in with peak Arnie/Bojan/Shaq/N’Zonzi/Affelay etc would have been exciting to watch.

You've named half the squad. Most of them I've heard of, hence me saying I've heard of half of them. Chuipezat had a great record at Dortmund. Good little player he was, at least spell his name right though! I was quoting from memory. Do you expect to carry his weirdspelt name around for 30 odd years? Give your brain a serious update, mate! Keep up.

He got injured in his final appearance going in for a brave 50/50 with the goalie didn’t he? Think we scored from that play too. Mind you there were rumours he then wouldn’t play with injections for the rest of the season when we wanted him to, so who knows. To be fair, I think it’s admirable (but foolish) when players do it. In my opinion, he made the right decision. It certainly seems so. Especially at the moment.

Struggling to see why footballers now would give a shit about the Dortmund Champions League side of 96/97? It's about being part of history. When you win it you realise you're in the same class as lot of superstars or when you strive to become "someone" you know what to strive for if you know the history of the competition. If you don't know the history of players and wins that came before you, it loses its attraction. Of course some just think about the size of the euros they gain by winning.

From what I can gather quite a few footballers hate football. They may know about it, they may not.

Go on then lad, tell me about the 96-97 Dortmund Champo League winning team. I haven't heard of half of them. You're not a pro footballer, so you're not expected to know such things. Still if you've never heard of Sammer, Chuipezat, Reuter, Klos, Heinrich, Ricken, Riedle, A. Moller, and Sousa, you might want to enter your brain for a serious update. "Expected to know such things"? Most footballers know absolutely fuck all about football aside from how to play it. I'd bet at least half of them couldn't name last year's Champions League winners, never mind one from before they were born.

Its a well worn path. Sam Vokes will be next on his way to PSG en route to Champions League glory. I hear they need a pot-washer, so quite probably.

Certainly one of our better players as our Premier League star started to wane but I seem to remember he failed to put in a tackle on the goal line in an away game and the opposition scored and that was his goose cooked so far as most people were concerned. Still who needs him when we now have Bomber Brown at our disposal? He was generally uninterested for most of the second half of the season. He was prolific on insta

Wowzers, had an absolute field day. He was leading as their lone striker, they seemed to have out a pretty strong team considering they were against a 5th tier team.
Still find it soo odd that he’s gone one and played for PSG and Bayern after a fairly drab season with us.

Bremer SV play in the Bremer regional league which is in 5th tier of German football…….puts it into perspective.

Bremer SV are about Crewe reserves level though aren't they. Still the old saying is "you can only play what's in front of you" isn't it.

He was always bang average. 31 shots Bayern had in that PSG game, Choupo Moting scored once. Had Lewandowski been there it would have been a cricket score. I've no idea how he's still in that club.

And just to put their 5th tier into perspective, it's a lower level than our 5th tier, which is the National League, they play in a league local to their city. If they win that then they go into a playoff to win promotion to a regional non-league. Stupidly strong team considering. Compare that to the Carabao Cup where Championship clubs are calling up players from their disabled women's side to play League One teams.
